I'm using Elements 8, and when I save my photo (which has the transparant background now) as a '.png', that background is saved as a white border. The rounded corners are there, but my photo has a white border (or frame)? What am I missing here?
The "Group with Previous" function has changed. I'm not sure as of when, but it doesn't exist in the UI for Photoshop Elements 9. However, you can use a (secret) keystroke for this feature as it applies to this video. On a PC: Hold down the Alt key while hovering the cursor over the line between the two layers in the layers panel, and click. On a Mac: Hold down the Option key while hovering the cursor over the line between the two layers in the layers panel, and click.
My photoshop elements doesn't have "group with previous layers" option under the layer menu. Hmmm....everything else worked exactly as you said but I can't find that one thing....
@harmon0323 Try the "Create Clipping Path" under the Layer menu (or you can use CTRL or CMD + G). They've changed the method from version to version. Hope that helps!
Hi i have found your video incredibly useful! Thank you :) I only have one prob I have followed all your instructions and grouped images but when I have saved the image and look at it, it shows the squared background layer even though I set it to transparent. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) xxx Ps I used elements 9
@bellapetal Looks like they may have changed the process...again. I havent gotten around to upgrading to Elements 9, the tutorial is based on Elements 8. Did you try going to Layers>Created Clipping Path? I did a quick Google search for rounded corners using PSE 9, but cant find anything definitive. You may try a search in your PSE 9 documentation too...sorry to not be more helpful at this point!
i have elements 8 and i also don't have a group with previous button...i push cmd. + g and it is "create clipping mask"...is that the same thing?
also, what if my rectangle is not even? why can't it just trim it off the sides without creating a layer behind it? is there a way to do so? i don't want the border around the picture...just the rounded picture.
@luffall Hi Luffall, thanks for the heads up. Looks like they renamed this in PSE 8. Its now called "Create Clipping Path" under the Layer menu (or you can use CTRL or CMD + G). And if you dont want anything trimmed but the corners, take your shape to the very edges of the photo...hope that helps!
Are you using Elements 6? I dont think it has changed over versions. Make sure your under "Layer". The keyboard shortcut is Cntr or Cmd + G...try that.
Very helpful. Thanks for creating this!

@COH2000 Hi...make sure you are choosing "transparency" when you save it as a PNG. Otherwise the background will default to white. Hope that helps!

There is no "Group with previous" on my elements and I'm pretty sure I'm using the same one you are. Is there another way to get to that?
