@tenacioustaut I personally hate the whaling industry BUT to be fair, what if we did try "farm" whales..... I'm wondering if it's a realistic idea, I mean, The price tag alone would be astronomical. Then there's the how and where part, and on top of that, we know so very very little about their breeding habits, could we even get them to breed in captivity? I just think that there are so many things that we don't know which would make it practically impossible. :)

If you were smart you would know that Norway is a whaling country too, yet there no series about them. So why would the Japanese let them film they are committing a crime! To be honest, I don't think Animal Planet is interested in anything other than their bottom line so Whale Wars is nothing more than "entertainment" and isn't much of a documentary. And documentary is not the same thing as journalism. So whether you think it's right or wrong we can't always blindly accept everything we see on TV as hard facts. This is just one side on an issue, focusing on one group, repurposed for TV entertainment. Everyone should be on alert whether you watch CNN or Fox News.

I agree that the US media is all about entertainment and not about reporting real news. Which is why they all report on the same thing over and over, dispite the 10,000 newsworthy stories out there on any given day. However, that is not the fault of the people on that ship. International law. Multiple countries have territory for which they have control over down in Antarctica. They have waters for which they are respoinsible for and have authority over. The area the Sea Shepard oraganization encounters them is territory governed by Austraiia. The Japnese whaling vessels are ignoring that. Claiming it is for research that they kill those whales, but the product of the whales goes to the public, not scientific research.
