@forthewolf325 I know, what a joke. Hi soldier great videos I'm interested in buying a new iMac i3 in time for Xmas it's a nice update but I've heard USB 3.0 etc in the next refresh should I wait for that.
12 cores is not the largest amount in a computer, he blatently dosent know alot about computers when the intel xeon x7560 chip is an 8 core, 16 thread processor. there are motherboards that accept 4 of these chips making 32 cores, im sorry but just because its the most cores in an apple computer dosent mean in the slightest that its the most in a computer.
@Elf11lizard excuse me but xeon refers to the line of processors, the xeon x7560 is a processor with 8 cores on it and 2 threads per core. id imagine you've just hastily gone to the apple website to see howmany cores the "xeon" has but if you knew anything about real computers you would have know that the apple mac pro uses a type of xeon chip just as the x7560 is a type of xeon chip. notice how i was not rude to you in this comment

@Soldier: Just got my very first Mac since '92. FYI, while the Core i3 may not be quad-core, it's a virtual 4-core processor, so it's all good. ;)
Quick question: When do you think we will seen IPS premium display technology on the MacBook Pro's in your opinion? I noticed that you did pretty well with your 2010 predictions. Every last Apple product that has a screen has IPS. I was pleasantly surprised when IPS was announced for the iPad, and now even the iPhone 4 has it! Come on now...Peace! :D
The screen saver is called AppWall, It shows you all the top apps at the App store, you can even choose between the top paid apps and the top free apps. It looks great, but you can only get it if you have a Mac.
When I build my PC, I'm going to put a Phenom II Six-Core in it, but even then that's not completely necessary and I'm think of just getting a Quad-Core. Twelve-Core is absolutely ridiculous. As for the Mac pro itself, you could probably build a PC with a twenty or more core processor for much less than $5000. Hell, I'm gonna build a great a great gaming and video editing PC for less than $800.
Where I work, we use Linux boxes primarily. At home I have Windows, Mac and Linux machines. Having run all of them head to head, I have to say that overall the Windows machines are the most useful, and NOT merely for gaming.
@xxsujonxx idk if anyone has responded to this question by now but its an online gaming software called "onlive" he has a video on it so watch the video. :) and yourwelcome!
The Mac has plenty of capabilities and will satisfy most people who use/switch to it. I just think "is it for Mac?" is a waste of time and a potential dissapointment when I'm looking for a software solution. It's how I think and I know I'm not alone. Virtual machines aren't an option in 3D work. It's not as if Windows is unstable. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (I use this) are great. Mac is stable too, but to me it's all about software. That's what an OS is. A platform for software.
3D modeling, animation, simulation, rendering, etc are examples of how a computer's hardware can be taxed the most. For instance, look up "Processing Avatar", which describes the computing power used to render out that popular film (~40,000 processors, 104 terabytes of RAM, over 1000 terabytes of storage, etc). 3D work demands a lot out of a machine. Windows has the most software availability for 3D work, not to mention the best price value and newest hardware, especially if you build your own.
This Mac Vs. Pc stuff is stupid, any intelligent person who plans to do any form of serious work with computers knows that an in depth knowledge and comfort of both is almost a necessity at least in the work field of computers. So in saying this most people that say one is better than the other simply find it to be better for their uses. Because in reality any person who completely rejects the use of one or the other is most likely not making use of most of what either machines can do anyway!
@cavajason his Mac Vs. Pc stuff is stupid, any intelligent person who plans to do any form of serious work with computers knows that Linux is indisputably better.
I think it is fair to compare the different options available on the various platforms and come to a conclusion about which machines offer the best value and versatility - and of course, as you point out, the conclusion each person draws will be dependent on his needs; what does he use the machine for?
@inflate98 comparing is one thing, most people though pull the macs suck pc's are better or pc's suck macs are better BS which i find funny because most of these people actually know nothing about the machines whatsoever
@cavajason I couldn't agree more I mean I am getting the mac pro next month but I am taking windows 7 with me as well and I am not afraid to admit it because windows 7 is great for somethings just like osx is good for somethings.
@cavajason however regardless of which is opinionated to be better there are still facts about which operating systems has more devlopers and more viruses, more hardware and larger markets. these are facts regardless of whatever the fan boys say
@cavajason Mac and Pc fanboys and the word intelligent doesn't go together. If they were intelligent, they would have STFU and realized its all personal preference.
Wow Apple is such a ripoff. THERE IS NO 12 CORE PROCESSOR. They only put in TWO 6 CORE processors and it is greatly slowed by the fsb. just like the "8 core mac" it was only two, 4 core processors. Don't waste your money. Just get an nvidia tesla parallel processor for your extra processing needs.
i just hate microsoft as a corporation! xbox trashed console gaming culture...the filing system is boo boo the whole microsoft company is boo boo windows phone is doo doo lol the zune is wack! everything they do is souless cant stand windows Ctrl-atl-del that shit
@tres311 - There are plenty of people who use Windows (and/or Mac, Linux, etc) who's life and jobs rely on using and understanding computers to some degree. Most of these people have "lives" and are generally paid quite well. So please stop using ad hominem attacks and actually construct a valid argument. No, "Windoze sucks" isn't a valid argument. Give reasons, just as I do on the opposition as to why I prefer Windows over Mac. Be logical and fair.
@SolsticeHalcyon IDK my fiance is majoring in architecture and uses my computer for her Auto CAD shit she thinks its much nicer...my friend produces beats with his mac i heard its better for music editing and photo editing film editing basically everything editing...so idk i always see a mac in a music studio or dj booth...
@tres311 - There are plenty of programs available for Windows that deal with video, audio, and photo editing; some of the more famous ones are for both Mac and Windows. The Mac has some good options, and for certain content creation/editing tasks, it suits the artist well, but overall, there's a lot more software available for the PC. In the end you just have more options for PC, plus excellent hardware that costs less. Mac is good, but for me, it doesn't have what I want, and that's fine.
If you like hip hop...check out my stuff on my channel. I'm all about true hip hop and bringing it back to being about the lyrics and skill rather than how much money you have and what kind of cars you got. Much Love and God Bless to everyone.
God. I wish they'd offer something better than the HD 5750 for video in the high-end iMac! An HD 5850 or GTX 460 would make that computer worth getting. >.<
The new Mac Pro is disappointing. Can you overclock those, yet?
And how much it costs? 5000? Nowadays you can build a 12 core pc (using 6 core Xeons and EVGA SR-2) under 3000$. It would be much faster than Apple's 12 cores too =D
@TheFlameFox under $3000? both CPUs are worth 1000bucks each + 600 for the mainboard + 170 for memory + 170 for the graphics card + 130 for a power supply + 500 for case + cooling + 150 for HDD and optical drive +150 for WiFi/Keyboard/Mouse and other small bits + operating system ______ That's 4grand and doesn't include building the machine, warranty and support
Actually I was thinking more like: 900+900 for Xeons, 600 for motherboard, 170 for RAM, 150 for graphics card (HD 5770), 100 for case and cooling and finally 80 for HDD. OS can be provided by piratebay =D
You can't just buy hardware like this and then spend no money on cooling.
There is nothing like the Mac Pro case on the market, but you'd have to invest into at least in a Lian Li case, probably a big tower. That's $200+ right there.
Then you need a good power supply: at least another $100
And if you want to keep that system as cool and quiet as a Mac Pro, you'll have to invest at least another $200 (probably much more) in either fans or a water cooling system.
The Mac Pro case is horrible. It barely have any cooling at all compare to for example a Cooler Master 690.
Also stop pulling numbers out of your ass. A Scythe muggen 2 is one of the most quite fans and it also have excellent cooling. You can run a i7-930 at 4Ghz with it and it doesn't even cost 50 dollars.
I use headphone when I work at my computer. Programing without music would be really boring...
Also, as I said before. The GPU is to low end for any "serious" work like 3D rendering, and the CPUs isn't enough for complex ray-tracing pictures.
This is one of those computer that will end up at some "youtube celeberties" home because he think he is a professional film maker while the real artists with real works will continue to use rendering farms/PCs.
Don't be such a molo. I don't have to pay lots of money for Lian Li cases. I buy a basic 15$ full tower case, mod it a bit and add a few powerful case fans (both in- and out-take) to get good airflow and low ambient temperature. Then maybe 2x Prolimatech Megahalems for the processors (to get 4ghz stable at reasonable temps =D). Also, I know a few places where you get a nice discount for buying this much stuff.
Have u ever looked at the Mac Pro case? It's relatively compact, everything is easily accessible (best solution for swapping hard drives I can think of), it's very silent and very sexy looking.
@joeshow300 well atleast justin gets pussy lol u know you fatass donut eatin basement dungeon crawling dickheads get none of that atleast under 200 lbs and hairless upperlips
Are you saying that everyone who buys an iMac gets laid?
You're probably just some 12 year old kid who can't even come up with a good argument why Macs are better so you're attacking the person rather than the product.
@tres311 dude i skate all mac dudes do is masturbate to lolcats btw your like a 12 yearold kid who hasnt been laid... all the macs get laid by sex dolls
I should clarify, GPU acceleration is supported only in limited ways thus far, at least in the 3D animation business. In the future GPU acceleration's potential will be fully realized. Not sure about CAD, but I know in 3D animation, the "rendering" phase is still almost completely done in software (CPU), and there are a few hardware renderers relying on GPUs but so far, there's not much off-the-shelf solutions around yet aside from custom stuff studios use. The future does look good though!
Seems like most people think like me in the fact that Mac's are way too expensive for the hardware. Do they have the best OS ever, yes, is it worth buying one, no. So, just do like me and put MacOS on a PC, it's a WIN-WIN situation :D
I love how you're acting like 5 grand isn't a lot of money for a computer... Shows how into Apple you are... No hating though, I'd buy it if I had the money
So basically, to truly get something out of a 12 core (or more) machine, you need software that supports those cores and you must be doing something that taxes your system. I'm thinking 3D animation, architectural visualization, CAD, and there's a lot more stuff out there that really likes those extra cores. Again though, 12 cores is little compared to a 24 or 32 core server workstation you can build for less than or around 5,000 dollars. That shiny Apple logo sure is expensive.
I've got a mac mini with an i5 processor, and 8 GB of DDR3 ram and it's the best computer I've ever owned.

SolsticeHalcyon 1 year ago

I think it is fair to compare the different options available on the various platforms and come to a conclusion about which machines offer the best value and versatility - and of course, as you point out, the conclusion each person draws will be dependent on his needs; what does he use the machine for?
inflate98 1 year ago
@inflate98 comparing is one thing, most people though pull the macs suck pc's are better or pc's suck macs are better BS which i find funny because most of these people actually know nothing about the machines whatsoever

@cavajason however regardless of which is opinionated to be better there are still facts about which operating systems has more devlopers and more viruses, more hardware and larger markets. these are facts regardless of whatever the fan boys say

@SolsticeHalcyon IDK my fiance is majoring in architecture and uses my computer for her Auto CAD shit she thinks its much nicer...my friend produces beats with his mac i heard its better for music editing and photo editing film editing basically everything editing...so idk i always see a mac in a music studio or dj booth...
tres311 1 year ago
@tres311 - There are plenty of programs available for Windows that deal with video, audio, and photo editing; some of the more famous ones are for both Mac and Windows. The Mac has some good options, and for certain content creation/editing tasks, it suits the artist well, but overall, there's a lot more software available for the PC. In the end you just have more options for PC, plus excellent hardware that costs less. Mac is good, but for me, it doesn't have what I want, and that's fine.

God. I wish they'd offer something better than the HD 5750 for video in the high-end iMac! An HD 5850 or GTX 460 would make that computer worth getting. >.<
The new Mac Pro is disappointing. Can you overclock those, yet?
SenoreQueso 1 year ago
And how much it costs? 5000? Nowadays you can build a 12 core pc (using 6 core Xeons and EVGA SR-2) under 3000$. It would be much faster than Apple's 12 cores too =D
TheFlameFox 1 year ago
Molo9000 1 year ago
@Molo9000 600 for the mobo? I think you're forgetting that those are consumer prices. A manufacturer might pay a little under half for that stuff.
You could easily get a similar PC build for around 1500.
tkavil 1 year ago
@tkavil
I'm comparing what it would cost a consumer to build the system himself to what it would cost a consumer to buy it from Apple.
You can't even buy the CPUs for 1500 bucks.
Molo9000 1 year ago
@Molo9000 I said a similar build. You can get an AMD 6-core for 200-300 dollars each. Also an Intel 6core is 1000.
tkavil 1 year ago
@tkavil
The $200-$300 AMD 6-core consumer CPUs (Phenom II) are just like the Intel 6-core consumer CPUs (I7s): No dual CPU support!
If you want to have 2 AMD CPUs, you have to buy Opterons. I don't think they are really any cheaper than comparable Intel Xeons.
Molo9000 1 year ago
@Molo9000
Actually I was thinking more like: 900+900 for Xeons, 600 for motherboard, 170 for RAM, 150 for graphics card (HD 5770), 100 for case and cooling and finally 80 for HDD. OS can be provided by piratebay =D
TheFlameFox 1 year ago
@TheFlameFox
Stuff's expensive!!
Molo9000 1 year ago
@Molo9000
MarTuv93 1 year ago
@MarTuv93
Ok. 2 of those + 3 good case fans -> 160-170 bucks.
I would rather spend a little more. There is nothing more annoying than fan noise while working.
Molo9000 1 year ago
@Molo9000
Learn how to use headphones.
Also, the CM 690 II comes with ~4 fans. No nee to buy more, right?
MarTuv93 1 year ago
@MarTuv93
Headphones? This isn't a gaming machine. It's for work. Low noise is really important.
Molo9000 1 year ago
@Molo9000
MarTuv93 1 year ago
@Molo9000
TheFlameFox 1 year ago
@TheFlameFox
A 15$ full tower case?
Have u ever looked at the Mac Pro case? It's relatively compact, everything is easily accessible (best solution for swapping hard drives I can think of), it's very silent and very sexy looking.
U can't get something similar for 15bucks.
Molo9000 1 year ago
@Molo9000
I didn't say anything about it being similar to mac pro. I don't give a fuck about the case. Only performance and overclockability matters to me.

SolsticeHalcyon 1 year ago
Seems like most people think like me in the fact that Mac's are way too expensive for the hardware. Do they have the best OS ever, yes, is it worth buying one, no. So, just do like me and put MacOS on a PC, it's a WIN-WIN situation :D
M4XC4V413R4 1 year ago
I love how you're acting like 5 grand isn't a lot of money for a computer... Shows how into Apple you are... No hating though, I'd buy it if I had the money
m3phisto666 1 year ago
So basically, to truly get something out of a 12 core (or more) machine, you need software that supports those cores and you must be doing something that taxes your system. I'm thinking 3D animation, architectural visualization, CAD, and there's a lot more stuff out there that really likes those extra cores. Again though, 12 cores is little compared to a 24 or 32 core server workstation you can build for less than or around 5,000 dollars. That shiny Apple logo sure is expensive.
SolsticeHalcyon 1 year ago
@SolsticeHalcyon
I'd like to add that for CAD and stuff like that you'd be better of with a powerful GPU rather than CPUs.
Not saying that the 12 cores are bad but it will be bottlenecked by the 5770 if you're going to do 3D rendering and stuff like that.
