Only Reason this and other INDECTED, COMPUTER OPERATED two strokes make more torque is variable engine timing. They can make it perfect (with the computer and secsors) for ANY rpm, insted of only at wide open throttle, like on a carb. Engine. I don't kno who said it, but a 4 stroke isn't automaticly better than 2, just cuz the number value. Come on now. Lol
tssss who gives a flying f*ck about boats, plain and simple this commercial is funny as f*ck, not about you losers and your self indulgent cr*p, put that in your f*cken ass and smoke it lol you f*cken losers are such a waste of space
A E-Tec 115hp is 1.7 liters in displacement. A Yamaha 4-stroke is 2.7 liters. A 2.6 liter E-tec will get you 200hp. Weights are 375, 466, and 418lbs respectively. The 2-strokes also produce more torque.
it's quite easy, 2 engines the SAME SIZE, the 2 stroke fires twice as often, it's in the name, every 2 strokes or 4 strokes a cycle is completed. 2 strokes are twice as powerful for their size,

I've been in and around the boat business all my life. And I have to tell you I never get tired of listening and reading these typical comments of one verses the other. By the typical bean dip level IQs out there that have to wast there time posting this stuff. Who gives a rats if your Ev. can beat a Merc or your Merc can beat the Ev. Allot of lot depends on the set up. I have a Chrysler on a boat that has made many a comparable Merc or Ev. look sick. Doubt the Merc/Ev. guys would admit to it?
"there is NO WAY an etec will loose to a optimax, in any category. "
Of coarse, it would have been a better idea to actually look the numbers up and compare them yourself instead of saying something completely false, then telling me I don't know what I'm talking about.
I need to look up the numbers? U prob. don't even have ONE boat. Trust me buddy, i've compared the numbers and there is ABSOLUTLEY NO WAY one of ur optimax will be my e-tecs. Show me one reason, one GOOD and ACTUAL reason to buy a mercury over an Evinrude. and don't try and make up some b.s reason either because i know a outboard inside and out. I'll know if ur making something up which u will have to do if u honestly think an optimax is better than a E-Tec!
Actually I do own a boat. And I've been a technician for years, therefore I do know what I'm talking about. I've felt the performance from both engines, Optimax wins. Now, your just being a typical etec cheerleader....
ok tough guy, what kind of boat do u own? what kind of technician are you? but you failed to answer my question. "Show me one reason, one GOOD and ACTUAL reason to buy a mercury over an Evinrude."
I have a 24 foot Formula. I am a MARINE technician.
To answer your question.. Well when your comparing the Opti to the Etec, the Optimax wins in fuel economy, top speed, hole shot times, emissions, weights less, and costs less. Not to mention they are a more proven engine. I thought there was ABSOLUTELY NO WAY the Opti couldn't beat the Etec? You couldn't be more wrong about that.
ur an idiot. Whats A 300 optimax go for? WAIT, THEY DON't EVEN MAKE ONE! and ur a true dumb ass if u think they cost less. A 200 merc weighs 497 an E-tec 200 weighs 418. So good point...NOT. If they are a more proven engine, how come they don't make a 300? THEY SUCK! if they were proven, they would have a larger selection of engines. And they would have a longer warrenty, like 5 yrs not 3. E-TEC was theonly engine to get the clean air excellence award so that just proves how stupid u really are
AND if optimax are SOO good, why did they stop making them? If they were soo good like u think, they would not stop making them. Shows how much u know.
2. Mercury still makes the Optimax. I don't know where you came up with that little idea, but telling me that "I don't know what I'm talking about" and then saying 2 completely false things, really tells me you are not in the marine industry. Maybe a boat washer/dock line handler at best....
So yes, shows how much I do know, and how much you don't.
you are stupid. THEY DO NOT MAKE A 300 OPTIMAX. And go try an order a 2010 optimax. YOU CAN't. You can go on thier website and look, no 300 optimax .ass hole. But u know it all, because u got a 24' formula. get a real boat then come and talk to me. Your just embarasing your self now, and proving that u know nothing. FYI, i've worked at a dealiership for 16 years. I have been to Evinrude school, so at best, so ur one of the dumbest marine techicians i;ve ever hear of. If u really are one...
Maybe you can come by and pick up my 2001 Opti 135 with 16.5 hrs on the clock - dead with #6 cylinder at zero compression. Great fun buying such unreliable piles of dog turd. Yea, Merc's are awesome! Please sell me another - kids don't need to go to college.
Yourallajoke knows what he is talking about! I work at a dealer that sells and works on e-tec and suzuki. E-tec is really good for a 2 stroke but the 2 stroke is old technology no matter what efi you put on it. Suzuki is much nicer. People really get suckered by their add campaign. Some people argue with us they dont even reguire oil! Their not that clean either ever seen their soot covered prop hubs and exhaust reliefs? They realy found some loop holes for emissions. Wheres my E-tec car?
I'm just curious how many of you dipsticks criticizing the E-tecs have actually ever been on a boat powered with one or - even better - actually owned one. They are nothing short of amazing - best motor I've ever owned.
Funny Add! Lets see who is laughing when you are all rebuilding your leaned out two strokes at 500+ hours. Geez I wonder why other outboard companies and car manufactures aren't putting E-Tec style engines under the cowls and hoods if they are so damn good?

They are. Mercury's OptiMax is direct-injection two-stroke. Yamaha has its HPDI (High Pressure Direct Injection) engines new to the market.
Also, in terms of automotive applications, the Chrysler Co. Neon was originally planned to be a two-stroke with direct injection. GM, Ford and others have licensed the original DI technology from Orbital. They have a lot invested in two-stroke engine technology as a means to make smaller, lighter cars of the future that meet EPA requirements. So there.
they never did it did they there are so many engine manufatures out there and evinrude is the only one doing it, if it was as good as they say they would all be doing it!

Mercury use a low pressure pre atomised injection system which is completely different to e-tec (explosion-technology).
Don't get me wrong.. Im not a fan of two strokes! However if I had to buy one again for our fleet of boats it would be a low pressure injected system! Less chance of going bang!

explosion technology? shows what you know... you can check on their site- e tec stands for nothing in particular- it is just a name for the model. My opinion is that they suck ass
I have a 2006 23 mako with a 225 etec. My fuel burn at 32 mph is 8.1 gph. And i can troll for 6 hrs on 1 gallon of gas. My top speed is 50mph. And i have owned yamaha and mercury. I love my Etec!!

Do the research idiots... First and foremost I had a 97 mach 1 with 12,ooo miles before I sold it. The new tech. with the 2 stroke direct injection makes a 2 stroke more reliable less emmissions and more powerful than a 4 stroke... p.s. they did test against the verado, and SMOKEd it!!! four stroke sucks, two strokes rule... do the research
im not gonna say mercurys are as reliable as any of the other outboards, and the verado is a four stroke try that etec against a merc 2 stroke. bottom line , you wanna haul ass merc is the way to go
etec rule i own one and my uncle has optimax. problem after problem with the optimax. yamaha ,suzuki, and evinrude have a reputation for a reason . and from my experiance here in norway (as well as my uncles) mercury dont deserve one

Evinrude says that 2-stroke is more powerful than four-strokes, because its got twice as many power strokes at any given RPM.
How is that? A 115 HP two-stroke isn't automatically twice as strong as an 115 HP four-stroke..?
