  • some people may not agree on a song meaning, but it doesn't matter as long as were enjoying the artist

  • sage says vanity alot

  • isnt this song in a movie?

  • @Phantom66789 It's featured in the 2008 movie "Pride and Glory". Great movie. Fantastic song, can't get enough of it.

  • @Phantom66789 YES. the Fountain..

i never seen that whole movie but the parts i seen were sick.. really good movie

  • dope track

  • amazing

  • The truth is, Sage is such a deep and talented person, that this kid mean something PERSONALLY to him, and him only. Thats what makes him...him. Just listen, thats what he puts music out for

  • Did someone really say that global warming (AKA "climate change") is a load of shit? I'm impressed that loads of shit have learned how to type. Evolution is more impressive than I previously believed.

  • Sage ought to be smart enough to know Global Warming is a load of shit.

    This is a metaphor.

  • 5/5 this isd the state of the world.....The Weasel Was Here...XD

  • I would say it's probably less about a specific event, but more centered on the general idea of taking action when we know deep down that we should. Sure he alludes to Katrina and probably a few other events, but he only means to convey how pathetic it is to just stand there and let things get bad. We always have the power to do something.

  • @killerwhale8000 well said.

  • But I've offset the bell curve when I do it with so losin' control

    Guilty feet do have rhythm

They just dance to the wrong theme music to amuse the villian

Instead of killin', I spare the raccoon

And start fillin' sand bags as I stare at the moon

THOSE FIVE LINES TAKE EPICNESS TO ANOTHER LEVEL

  • I had tuned into HBO, waiting for the next movie to start.. caught this song at the end of Pride and Glory. Listened to it, fell in love. Lucky I caught it! <3

  • Its about Katrina. That's final. Go ask Sage.

  • speks to me

  • get me everytime

  • I think that the meaning of the song is meant to be ambiguous.

Its basically saying that all around us things are happening (Poverty, Global warming, abuse[ Domestic, child, women etc]) yet we stand around and don't do anything (or as much as we should) about it.

Therefore, whatever problems people are faced with at a point in time, this will relate to it.

  • @frozenheavens Also I think it's meant to state that no one suffers the consequence directly (Accountability hung out to dry on the line of command) yet ultimately we pay for everything we do.

  • @frozenheavens i sort of agree

  • and all we do is stand there.

  • R.I.P. 2 ALL LOST IN HURRICANE KATRINA

  • Looks like the guy from auzzie masterchef.

  • i think this song is about being abused by your parents. 'set my eye to the highway, knowin' that i'll play chicken soon' as in like i have to hide before they get home 'i respect my elders, so i do as i'm told' my parents tell me to do stuff or i'll get beaten... this whole song sounds like how my friends are when they parents are abusing them... although i could be wrong but i think i am right :D

  • wow, the rhymes, the flow, period!!

  • The greatest thing about art is that you can interpret it anyway you like.

  • Wow :')

I love the last part when he says "we remind ourselves it's all right, it's all good

It's all love, it's not though" and "It's a family affair, the vanity we share.. The water line is rising and we do is stand there.."

  • the water line is rising, all we do is stand there. it means you arent getting the hell out of dodge, you're letting yourself drowned in all the bullshit. his dad is dead.

  • Excellent.

  • dope song....

  • i think its "but i offset the bellcurve when i do it with soul losin control

  • @9ironmike "a rose by any other name"

  • my favourite

  • Your opinions on what the song means, actually means nothing unless you get the facts from the song writer himself. So stop guessing and just enjoy the song, and like what it means to you.

  • @ 7Dinosaurs

I have to disagree with you. An artist has his own ideas when they put it on paper about what something means but knows that the art is meant to inspire, to invoke a feeling. Everyone is going to take something different from this song because of their personal trials and tribulations throughout life. To say that their opinion means nothing just because it isn't what the artist meant is inane. Everyone's opinion is valid.

  • I can agree with you on that. I have an open mind. I you made me realize something with that response. Thank you.

    :D

  • No problem, glad to open you up a bit. You being open minded has made my day. lol So many times people are closed to the thoughts of others, especially on the internet. Have a great day. :D

  • You too. :D

  • @7Dinosaurs bless

  • @7Dinosaurs hes talking about new Orleans?

  • @7Dinosaurs i agree partially to what ur saying, but thats kind of what the comment section is for, stating ur opinion, of what the artist is putting out. what is so wrong about that. u dont have to read other peoples opinions

  • @marcolotr That's very true. It was just a few peoples comments that I read. Got my brain racing, and I just reacted. I never mean any disrespect when it comes to that. An opinion none the less :D

  • @7Dinosaurs cheers :)

  • @marcolotr

First time I've seen a fight on Youtube end well. Good job.

  • @marcolotr OMG!?!? A mature argument! you've made my day. lawlz

  • @7Dinosaurs well this conversation ended up gayer than I expected

  • @prophetezekiel huh?

  • @marcolotr exactly. People can't handle other people's opinions... its wack.

  • @7Dinosaurs I've found that one of the greatest aspects of music and music as an artform is that it allows the audience to interpret it as they see fit. It can mean a thousand things, or one specific thing that the artist intended, but the message remains clear, the strength of the message lies in the people's ability to understand the meaning.

I tend to interpret this song as the failure of people to accept responsibility for their actions and their lack of action when action is needed.

  • @7Dinosaurs But that's the whole point of art, to interpret & try to understand the message the artist is trying to get across. If he didn't want us to guess, he wouldn't speak in metaphors.

  • @TheMashupMessiah I agree with you I'm just saying when people argue over it. Shit is annoying. Its just constant trolling. No one will ever be right or wrong.

  • its about life and self reflection

  • whoever thinks this song is about global warming you should go kill yourself. its not about global warming. its about the smurfs.

  • @colon1489 best post on youtube.

  • this has NOTHING to do with global warming.

It is about doing whatever it takes to make somthing out of this life. not accepting being less then upper class. the waterline is rising is an analogy. he is drowning in his actions. slowly over time the actions will catch up with him. he even sees this himself but he can't get out. and there is no one else pulling him out either. He even says "bless all those who are damned". its the game boy, what hustler hustle for. Money Power Respect

  • Isn't it about katrina?

  • I remember hearing somewhere that he wrote this because of Katrina. The lyrics fit perfectly too.

  • The song is about different kind of storm that sweeping the whole country right now.

Davie Croket hat? Masonic? Has nothing to do with Katrina. It's about destruction of United States constitution and our future as next Nazi Germany,...

    /watch?v=VebOTc-7shU

  • the water line is rising and all we do is stand there.

doesn't have to be about global warming, it could be a symbolism of some sort i suppose

  • @Darkpuppet12 , ur absolutley right man, i just thought it would be very relevent right now, but def

  • not necessarily about global warming

  • @Darkpuppet12

Its about recognizing we are slowly watching our world drown and we can't seem to find it within ourselves to fix the wrong. We are all responsible.

...but all we do is stand there.

  • @Darkpuppet12 this song is about hurricane katrina. not global warming.

  • @mrbigmac00 i know, but in the comments that's what some people have been saying.

  • @mrbigmac00 Thats what everyone thinks but if you look at it there are only 2 references to katrina the water line and the levees and everyone one of sages lines is a metaphor for something else. I think this song is about when you think about something or look at something. And its like "oh i should really do something about that" but you don't all you do is stand there and let the water (aka the problem) rise and get bigger

  • @abluefuzz a good example is pride and glory its about a corrupt cop who is not taking out of the force when found out but he eventually gets other cops killed and its to big of a problem when they try to take him down

  • @MrAltereg0 Best movie ever, seriously, did it win any awards?

  • @CadeIsBoss as far as i know i did not to most critics it did little to stand out from other cop movies but still of them its number one

  • @Darkpuppet12 i thought 'Katrina' when i heard it.

  • @MisterTownsend You would be correct Sage himself has said he wrote this about Katrina

  • @stonedrose23 Thats what I think it is directly about but its more symbolic of the real problem of our country

  • @Darkpuppet12 I believe it has to do with us just watching our country implode as we head towards the NWO. Or at least that what it means to me.

  • The song on the movie has a longer instrumental intro, which to me sounds better, allowing more emphasis on the words.

  • At first I thought... Wow, this is awesome. But then, in the middle of the song I found out what it really is about.

God damn you, global warming, you non-existing, song-ruining son of a bitch.

  • You didn't understand the text.

  • this is awesome. Anyone know of any other good rappers? besides atmosphere i already know about them and eyedea
