  • yu know whut sucks i just sold a shit ton of cans and they all had the tabs on them! *-_-

  • Great idea. There are better tools than a pair of wire cutters though. Your cutters will most likely fail soon.

  • the round ones can be found on pepsi cans, and the squarish ones on coca cola.

so pepsi is doing it right!

  • Lol if u dare to use that thing as your real chainmail in war, you're dead before anyone esle

  • where you get 20 gauge wire?

  • That. Is. AWESOME!!!

  • Thumbs up for creativity. I'm doing chain maille by rings for a necklace but I gotta say for a chain maille armor effect. I'd have never considered something like this. I'd have to give a second thumbs up for the post it checks and x's that gave an awesome comical experience.

  • You are so cute! Thank you for the demo! I will make a purse! 😊

  • really? really?... really? a bow and arrow? ... lol jk

  • @SecretAsianMahn Do you have to bend the tabs for this to work?

  • This kid is cracking me up!

The way he narrates the video lmao!

  • cool

  • I think you have become my hero.

  • Hilarous. Lol

  • Lol weird you're doing it the exact same way i tried my first time.

  • 6:10 Gordon Freeman

  • Im actually going to do this lol. Should take about 4 months. Live in a house where we use 12 packs weekly, grandparents same, Freinds drink hell lot of soda, and a coworker who drinks like 4 cans daily. When its done ima post it lol!

  • i loved it im going have to do tjat one day

  • how do I make it into square????????

  • Your awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm curious, why do we need to bend the tabs?

  • just kiddin

  • you bor me

  • i started this and have a decent sized square of them, but without somethng to reinforce them,

they will catch on things, pop out of place and just plain make you pissed off. Have any idea how to reinforce them?

    thanks!

  • @ddshadowmage try using hot glue to hold the cut parts together my friend did this and hot glue worked for her

  • Nice bro! make a helm next!

  • wow man this is great xD keep up the good work my brother

  • how do you conect them all togeather?

  • u can just bend them with any fixed corner

  • Ur Such A Genius Thank You!

  • wut was the hammer for

  • instead of wire cutters, you can also use finger nail clippers.

  • PROTIP: You can buy like 3,000 of these on Ebay for 12 bucks.

Just a thought for those looking to make insane full-body chainmail :D

  • "Unfortunately it isn't so good against projectiles."

I thought he was going to start showing us how to make plate mail out of the cans. XD

  • In the past few years I've collected over 7000 soda tabs.. I have no clue what to do with them xD

  • chain mail is usually double layerd to protect where the openings in the links are. also, why do you need to bend the tabs

    ?

  • i no some1 who made a full length trench coat out pop tabs it took him 2 years but he had alot of people givin him pop tabs so he had loads it took a couple of thousand. looked really cool

  • that is a awesome thing to do :D

  • amazin job ;D gratz

  • awesome! pencil,wire a HAMMER

  • Ruining your homework I see.

  • I found this really interesting to watch. But my favorite part was the testing at the end. Favorite by FAR! lol

  • Oh man! you can use it as a weapon too, just throw it over people's heads and start ripping thier hair out!

  • Go get some sunlight

  • it will do wonders against a flying cat attack though!

  • @WarrivarNeo

But isn't a flying cat is a projectile?

  • only if launched. beware the crazy cat ladies with nothing to lose.

  • @davidc2468

it would be hard due to the lack of flexibility. the tabs are weak, so it would most likely become undone at the point where you cut the tabs.

  • I've been working on this for close to 6 months. And just have enough to make a belt of it around my waist. I like the wire idea, it comes in handy. I'm trying to make a full jacket. Obviously taking awhile to collect to the pop tabs. Any idea where I may be able to find a lot of them? (I rarely drink soda so I don't have the fridge stocked with cans.)

  • @SilentRaeth1

Just get the word out, tell your friends and the tabs will start rolling in. I too, am almost done with my vest (as of Feb. 2011.)

  • @SecretAsianMahn Yeah I have to keep reminding them. It's an extremely slow process.

  • @SecretAsianMahn Well how I got a ton is just go looking at the side of the rode :P

I put the cans into great use. I'm making BB/Stab proof vests w/ a groin shield for a couple dollars to sell to friends, they work great.

  • @SilentRaeth1 i know this is weird but i get like 200 of them in one day! how do i do this? i go around on recycle day and go through everyones garbage and get the tabs off the cans! hope this was helpful!

  • @Craftygirl3705 I do the same. When I have the time.

  • @SilentRaeth1 then how come you said you dont get alot?

  • @Craftygirl3705 school keeps me from having time to actually take the time to collect them. I can make them fairly quickly but collecting them in my spare time is a slow process.

  • @SilentRaeth1

    Search ebay for pop tabs

  • @SilentRaeth1

the best place to get poptabs is from a Ronald McDonald house. they collect them from local school drives and sell them to the recycling centers. they only get about 50 cents for each pound so i found they were quite willing to sell them cheap. one note, not all the pop tabs will be the kind you want and they will be dirty, on the plus side you are likely to get lots of colored poptabs as well

  • @SilentRaeth1 any craft store will sell them and i think toy r us has bracelet kits for about $ 7

  • @SilentRaeth1 they sell them on ebay I've seen them on ebay but here in Mexico they come in packs of 100 and in diferent colors I suppose that you can find them on your country's ebay too :D

  • @SilentRaeth1 and they are really cheap by the way

  • @SilentRaeth1 if you look up the worth company they sell boxes of 1000 key rings which i am using to make my chain mail if you want order 1000 for 30 something dollars and get fisherman pliers

  • @SilentRaeth1 -Look on ebay they sell them buy the thousands for very cheap

  • i literally LaughedOutLoud at the end XD

  • how'd you go from 3:45 to 3:47 ?

  • What angle do we bend them at?

  • I have a jar down at the bar.... people fill it for me =D

  • It's almost more of a scale mail xD Like a weird hybrid.

  • hurray for awresome!

  • And there you have it, your very own unprotective chainmail.

  • This is actually very good at snagging the crossbow bolts..

You should do this video again but but a book behind the chainmail and see how many pages it goes thru before its stopped.

  • I cant see why id need to do this but lol if i needed to this would be the way id do it.

    A+ Video

  • You can buy ALUSOL its a special solder type for aluminium. i soldered togeather two small aluminum plates and it worked perfectly. so this should be no problem ^^

  • @zeroni13

Thanks for the find! sounds like a great solution. could you please make A demonstration vid with more info?

  • Thank god you stuck to calling it (and spelling it) maille rather then chainmail! :'D

Oh, and can I recomend this essay/article, it sure helped me when people tried to say maille was shitte! It's on a site called MyArmoury and it's called Mail: Unchained.

  • why did you have to bend them?

  • @MyDivaDogCanada

You have to bend them in order for the links to lie flat when laid out because of the way it's built by basically stacking the "links" on top of each other.

  • I'm making a hauberk this way and I've come across a problem. When putting the maille on or taking it off, the links are often upset enough that some come apart. Can anybody think of a way to seal the cuts after putting the links together? I thought melting the cuts closed with a soldering iron would be perfect, but soldering irons don't go to 660F.

  • @raen714

I'm afraid aluminum does not take well to solder or welding. you are welcome to try, and tell me how it goes.

I noticed the tabs getting mangled too. I am making a suit/ vest. what I did is just sowing it to a suit vest so that the tabs wont get caught on anything.

    Hope this helps...

  • @SecretAsianMahn Ya, soldering irons just don't get hot enough and lead isn't strong enough...also not something i'd want to walk around wearing all day. I might try sewing it to a shirt, I know I was planning on getting underarmor to wear beneath it to keep it from chafing my arms raw, I bet sewing it onto the fabric would make it easier to put on, as well.

  • Now I'll be ready for my epic battle against the black knight, thanks!

  • how many can's did u use?

  • What a huge waste of time!

  • @spidersinspace What a huge waste of comment.

  • knives are for stabbing, not slashing, retest!

    xD good vid, thanks.

  • whoooooooa maaaan crazy crossssss bowwwww O_O whoaaaaaaaaa

  • dude this is great! hadabout 14 tabs, but i mis-bent / broke two of em but the rest came out nicely, thanks for the tut! subscribed + fav'd

  • 5:50 OW!...YOU SHOT ME!!!

  • I have more than you. LOL im not joking

  • Nice video, did a great job. That's right, I'm one of those original people with amazing personalities who have nothing but nice things to say...

  • This is pretty good, but its better to just keep the tabs as they are and not bend them, dont clip the top either, just make jump rings all the way. but still cool.

  • @Camronas i use the bent design because making jump rings is such a pain in the ass, it really kills the whole creative process for me. i hate running out of rings during assembly of normal chainmail and having to make more in the middle of it all. for me the worst part of making chainmail is making the rings. this design looks like magnified shark skin too and i'm not going to wear it as i already make true chainmail. when i'm out of tabs i'll hang the sheet on my wall or something.

  • @ishouldplayzelda I see, any yeah you are right about running out of rings. I make chainmaille myself, in the middle of a 6 in 1 hauberk any CONSTINTLY out of rings lol. But either way I think what you have done is cool and Im interested in what other ideas you come up with.

  • @Camronas i'm not really the type to invent new designs, i just use whatever anyone else has designed. i'm really interested in scalemail right now so i'm saving up for a couple thousand of them. i might do some alternate weaves in the mean time though.

  • @ishouldplayzelda Try doing 6 in 1 lol that would be interesting :P

  • @Camronas 6 in 1 with tabs or with rings?

  • @ishouldplayzelda Either tabs or rings, maybe a combination of the two that would be cool. oh well just a thought.

  • @Camronas i'm currently working on bike chain chainmail. i've got quite a bit done so far

  • why do you bend the tabs in the begining?

  • You have mighty sexy fingers.. and a beautiful voice..

  • dude that is totaly awsome

  • how do u put links so they can go to that time

  • Dude, u pwn, that was good

  • lol @ the sword at the end
