I dont take offense to a male holding a door open for me or any one else for that matter. I agree that I should be able to work at my job without continous male assistance I do this as an act of fairness however it is veiwed as an act of me trying to be the man. When I need assistance I ask for it.

@DADLANDSHOW this is really needling me. First, you start with a story of a woman who clearly has a very naive and simplistic view of what feminism is, and then proceed to hold her up as a shining example of feminism. Do I really need to tell you what is wrong with that? I mean, who said you could do that? I'll tell you: YOU DID! Congratulations, you have just made yourself the spokesman for feminists everywhere. Hope you can handle the responsibility.
Oh great, a story of two people who have a very shallow and superficial understanding of feminism. How edifying. My advice: start by looking up and finding out about what is meant by "argument from privilege".
I disagree with giving women maternity leave. Really WTF we are giving them a reward for cloning themselves. If they think their lives are good enough to reproduce they should be able to deal with taking the time and resources to do it.
@penguinworm You didn't learn anything in health class? Having a baby is reproducing 50% of your DNA. We would reproduce 100% of our DNA but the past has proved only using 50% means more of our children will be able to adapt to the environment.
Have you even read up on evolution out side of high-school? Just saying yes to that question will not mean anything, you will need to list some of the books.
Women with double standards are confusing a lot of men. To simplify it, some women are looking for slaves while others are looking for kindred spirits. The latter one is emancipated to me.
Me and my girlfriend do everything equally, when i open a door for her it is to show her appreciation for her presence. I make her lunch and occasionally do her laundry since i work at home. If she had treated me as a slave i would have kicked her out long ago.
being a young man, women confuse the hell out of me. this is why I never dated since I was 17. 7 years later, I rather not talk to them unless we both like videogames.
The question is... are women equally capable of opening their own doors? Buying their own wedding rings? Picking up the check after dinner? etc, etc, etc... Women want equal pay, but many (not most) will never stay with some a man who earns less money or a self-proclaimed house-husband.
@88Keyz101 Yes, there definitely is a discrepancy/double standard, that explains why woman say that there are no 'good' men.
The door, coat, chair, dinner-bill thing we could agree on to be a cultural agreement that is off-set by other inequalities like leg and armpit shaving, ironing, ect. But that would require the acceptance of incomplete equalness.
some people understand the equality thing as being equal as in indistinguishable, not just when it comes to gender. That is nonsense, woman are not man. They are equal in some capabilities but not in others. A often made mistake is to confuse the equality in capability / utility in some regard with the equality of all feeling creatures in general. A person with just one leg is clearlz
You know, when I first saw this pop up on the home page, all I saw was the "WOMEN'S WEAKNESS FOR", and the first thing that popped into my head was "WOMEN'S WEAKNESS FOR DANGEROUS MEN", which is a pretty serious issue in itself.
So, acts of kindness are the equivalent of acts of dominance? What if it was an old man walking with a cane, surely you would hold the door open for him, right? Does that mean you are dominating him, and you have power over him?
I agree with your point. Acts of kindness arent acts of dominance nor are they acts of charity for the weak. Old men with canes are not equivalent to women in general. Women can open their own doors & it isnt that us men dont want to open doors for women. We just want it to be known that it is an act of kindness & nothing more & it would be nice if women made some acts of kindness towards men. It would be nice, true equality. Not flowers, but a 6-pack of Heinekein is just as nice.
@88Keyz101 I always figured holding the door open was just common courtesy. If there is someone close behind me when I walk into a building, I hold it open for them, and then they hold it for the person behind them, regardless of age, race, or gender. Unless its teenagers, no one holds the door for teenagers. The woman was just being a bitch. But we are social creature. Women depend on men, and men depend on women. We need to help each other out. And yes, beer is helping =)
o_O I hold the door open for anyone. Male or female and I'm a woman. It's just a gesture of kindness. Now, if a man held a door open for me and then was like "You go on ahead little lady" then I'd be like wtf. When men help me carry heavy objects I see it for what it is. Help. I'm 5'2, I'm not athletic and I have a bad back. I don't make them run around like some queen and if I can do something nice in return I do. Why can't these things just be acts of kindness?
I absolutely appreciate when a man opens a door for me, etc. Men seem to appreciate when a woman cooks, cleans, etc. for them. No? Many men do get time off for paternity leave b/c essentially they too have just had a new baby and fathers are equally as important as mothers. Yes, males are generally always physically stronger than women however, there are many strengths that women have that men don't and they assist men too. Equal pay for the same position is the only fair and just way.
She wasn't right for being a complete cunt to you, she was just being a hardassed bitch. There is nothing to be proud of in being so unnecessarily vicious, you held the door open for her, I hold doors open for anyone and it's a gesture of kindness. I would have had some words for her.
@mexicoman101 I think any woman who does that should be called sexist by the man holding the door open for her. No matter the origins of door opening today it is a simple courtesy. To assume that he is opening the door simply because she is female is sexist in its implications...
I agree with what you have said, however, after thirty years of working temp in numerous offices I don't see women in the workplace expecting men to carry their file boxes for them or move their chairs. There is and area were men help because women are balancing on three inch heel and wear very restrictive close and it's very difficult to move. I doubt your aunts could perform any of their tasks in clothing demanded for the office workplace.
I have to said american values and morals are just like flipping burgers on the burger joint: you go one way then you go the next way and back again. It is confusing for me as a woman to just 'follow' it but I just do my thing. I will have said thank you dadlandshow for opening the door because kindness is contagious and I will do the same with a man, woman, or kids.
lol you on the money! Have you seen ads on TV oh goodness, the woman is always with the dishwasher, dishwashing soap laundry, the men are helpless and waiting on dinner like dogs! 2011 and these stereotypes still going on!! How many men live alone and have to wash their own dishes and make their own dinners and men are far better cooks that women anyway!
I'm just talking about the "chivalry" thing, not being nice, kind and helpful in general. Like most of you, I hold up doors for everybody, and I'm mostly happy and say thank you if someone does the same for me. I'm speaking to what I think is the main thing in this video, is if/when it's done in a manipulative way. Like, hey, poor little thing, let me help with you that....and then don't be upset if I get advantages in life, because I'm clearly more capable than you...
To the men who don't see any problem with this at all, think about this. I lift heavy things all day. I work hard. I come from a line of women who have always worked hard and who have thus been proud people. Now you come and you take my grocery bags from me, open all my doors for me, and in general treat me like a child. It does not pay respect to the reality of my life, what I've done and what I'm about. Genuinely help, great. But if you're going to play heroguilt games on me, I won't be happy.
And we can't be treated 100% the same all the time, cause we are after all do different types of humans, males and females, and we are attracted to each other generally. So men will do these kind of things to seem nice, because it's in our nature that we want a partner in life. And if you had closed the door on her, haha, do that next time and see her reaction.
well said! some women are just plain stupid! if we took there maternity rights away then they would be equal to men! because men dont have maternity rights! but of course then they would moan for different rights!
That's ridiculous, you were just being a gentleman. Most women still very much appreciate such a gesture, regardless of their sexual preference, and even if they look butch. Equal work for equal pay is what I say.
I agree with you for the most part Dadland, however I hold doors for both sexes. It's just polite. I don't think we should cease these actions, just expand them to all. Being polite shouldn't be based on sex or race for that matter.
Dadland you just don't get it. You just live in a weird country where women instanstly get the wrong idea when you do them a favour. I'm sure if you did that in any other country, all you'd get is a smile or a "thank you".
In my home country (France), we greet people of the opposing sex by kissing them on the cheek 2 to 4 times. The only time I did that and it was mega awkward was in the US!!
So girls, next time we smile at you or hold the door, we're not sexist, we're just being us.
Like the person below me, I also hold the door open for both men and women. If I don't do that I feel like I'm being disrespectful. They can say anything they want to me, but at the end of the day, I was being nice. Another great video. :)
I understand your example in this video but me personally I hold the door open for both men and women. To me it's just a respect thing. I don't think about feminism or masculinity when I do it. It was just how I was raised.
You know what? I'm a serious radical feminist, but politeness is politeness and when someone holds the door for me I say thank you and walk through without making a big deal out of it.
Dadlandshow--good subject that is a difficult line to walk. You make some good points, but for some reason you do not speak with the same clarity in this clip as you do with the others. Very enjoyable, just the same.
@respondtofool His game is just fine. As people see his vids, they decide for themselves. There are already way to many circus clowns jumping through hoops for subs. What youtube needs is people that are just being true to themselves. I would rather he be real than be a paid shill, personally.
@Dadlandshow, i've commented on a few of ur videos. It's my job to make sure to teach people. I like ur videos but u r too sweet. U gotta get a bit more angry to get more subscribers.
Man there is something wrong with that woman just like a lot of society. I hold doors open for people of both sexes, it's polite and it's kindness. We could use a little more kindness in the world. I admit, I go and get help when I need it, I ask either sex for help, it's a matter of whether I know or think the person is able to do what I need help with. There are some things that are not equal, but attacking true gentility is crazy. They need to learn to pick their battles.
I hold the door for anyone really. So when a woman said the same thing to me after she just watched me hold the door for 3 guys, I was dumb-founded. What happened was that I had just taken a step and saw her coming, I stepped back and held the door for her and she said "Why dont you go first?" in a icy tone. I never responded to it because I didnt know how to. To this day I dont know how to respond to it because I hold the door for anyone, even people I dont like.
heh when i first checked this vid out i thought it was gonna be sexist but after watching it was kind of a eye opener. although i was always taught it was polite to hold the door for a lady not because it was because you were dominant. i hold the door open for guys too esspecially if they are elderly.
I hold the door for men... men hold the door for other men... it's just a normal thing. Don't go run get the nearest man girls lol. I have met people too small to do certain jobs (male and female) but if there is not a reason why not do what you can? The only complaint I have about people trying to help is when they take away what I am working on repeatedly which has happened to me. It's affluent ladies that usually get priority treatment by men anyway - not Eastside Van. women so no idea.
Well, what I hate is if a *person* doesn't hold the door if it's a crowded scene, they're right in front of me, and the door is fast to slam. But I never resent it when someone lets the door go if s/he's way ahead of me. One thing I hate is when people actually stand there holding a door as an obvious act of grandiosity while I'm still 50 feet away.
But regarding gender, a gentlewoman is as valid as a gentleman. People should hold the door for people out of kindness and necessity.
Damn right woman are confusing. I've been doing what you are casting out for such a long time, and the reaction is just like you say... for some reason... they just don't want to lose that "kindness" just like how americans don't want to lose social security.
@respondtofool Yes, I am very stupid indeed, lol. so very stupid... but i wonder how the comparing of something in high magnitude desire, which people don't want to lose is stupid.
Females are confusing, and they are obviously innerly torn. This does not surprise me in the least, since Females are Deficiency Mutants (rudimentary [Micro-]Penus Christi) I vividly regret that I am at least 6/7 straight. If I could choose then there would be no hesitation for myself to, on-the-spot, select the other side of the river *sigh*
Courtesy is a two-way street. I have held doors open or given up seats for elderly men or women, people with babies - anyone I thought needed help. I am a woman.
I now accept when a man opens a door for me (when younger I did see it as condescending). However when I thank the man, I say "Courtesy works both ways and I would do the same for you").
I've had this happen to me numerous times - I just say thanks and let the door close behind me . . . I hold the door open for anyone walking close enough behind me, children, men, women, elderly, black, asian . . . those who have an issue with this can just fuck off.
@respondtofool How did i sound selfish? i express kindness every chance i get to other people. i didnt mention it in my comment but i do. Sorry for miscommunication
You rawk as per usual my friend but only disagree with one point--I think men should also be able to take paternity leave with their wives and get off for dr appointments and such as well. Indeed, both are going to be parents, this is only fair. Also, don't let let other women who will appreciate your kindness suffer because of sexist women. We should not make people pay for the sins of others...
I am glad this topic was broached but what I dislike is how such conversations end up with either woman bashing or male bashing. Until we can learn to kinda talk about such things with civility nothing will ever truly be solved
I'm absolutely floored by this video. Fair in every way. I loved what you said about your aunts in Jamaica, I'm sure they were probably proud women and proud of their work. Good role models. I'm sorry there's not a "like very much" button on Youtube :)
@Zerafinel I am most floored by the fact that someone would assume that opening the doors was sexist and not a courtesy--the assumption is you only open the door for women. Wouldn't that make the woman i herself sexist?
@sepiasiren Well, when someone opens a door for me, usually I nod and smile and don't make much of it. I was agreeing with the main points of this video. I think we do have responsibility to not accept too many such favors from men. Accept too much of this behavior, and it's not common courtesy anymore. It turns into a game of manipulation, where both men and women try to manipulate each other.
@Zerafinel I am the same way, but really I think all relationships, intimate and otherwise are about mutual courtesy and respect not about keeping score for fear of political advantages. In a perfect world it would be 50 50 at all times but things happen to change dynamics. . For example--when I had my c-section hubby had to do most of the 'work" as I healed--and when he is sick, I do the same. I also agree with the vids points but fear ppl will take this as a call to keep score...
i hold the door for others regardless... used to be just for women, but I wrestled with this issue a decade ago... being nice shouldn't be a bad thing.
Yes, this is an interesting point. If a woman resents you holding the door, what do you say – "You hold for me tomorrow" ?
I imagine that if everybody had always held doors (or whatever) for everybody else since time immemorial, this wouldn't be an issue. But it's going to take a good decade of same-gender door-holding before suspicion is completely eradicated.
@infideluxe I can see that--but I dunno--I grew up largely in the South where it is expected--haven't experienced the opposite. It is so ingrained in me that I do it for everyone as I see it as a courtesy thing and not a gender thing...I think the women who beleive a man is opening the door for her is doing so because she is a woman is making sexist assumptions...
And I do agree: women must be sure to do whatever their job requires. I think the "lady syndrome" is dying off. I do ask for help at work now, but that's only because my back problems have become very bad. I'm searching for a new line of work now where I don't have to stand all day or move boxes.
@sepiasiren Well, I always did my jobs equally, and it was restaurant and customer service. Now I have a bulging disc in my back. So it's not really about the uterus, but the face that I can't stand still in one place for mosre than an hour, and I can't lift fifty pound bags of flour anymore.
Honestly, I'm only 41 and my body is going to hell faster than I thought it would.
@amandazillah Yeah, but I look at it this way--I worked with a general contractor as a painter for a number of years. We made a great team--but I didn't try to lift the heavy stuff cause I know where my capabilities lie--do not get me wrong--I have met ladies who could bench press my weight over head and it they want to be hard labor contractors they should because they can do the job equally--but such ladies are rare. I was a painter--I stuck to painting--lol
@sepiasiren Well, sure! That was your job description and there was no reason to do anything outside it. Restaurant is rough work for everyone in the back of the house-hot, steamy, long hours and trying to make everything perfect. (Never went to culinary school, but I did everything from hostess to dishwasher to short order cook.)
My back problems weren't caused by my job, just as an aside. Turned out to be structural/scoliosis. Nobody's fault.
@sepiasiren The specialist I saw last thinks I'm not a candidate for surgery-yet. I will probably have to have it in a few years. I was prescribed PT and muscle relaxants if I need them. They haven't giving me the epidurals yet either-those can sometimes make things worse.
Ask them if you are a candidate for decompression treatment. It is an outpatient, non-surgical procedure that may work for you. You can find a lot of information around. I've had a spinal fusion because of a crushed disc from vertebrae slippage. I don't regret the surgery, I am 10 x more functional and enjoy a lot less pain, but if you can deal with the issues without invasive surgery that is usually the best option.
@CrankyTiger Oh, that's a good idea-I need a new doctor anyway. (I didn't care for the last one and he keeps changing offices on a yearly basis, so apparently nobody else does either.)
@amandazillah Doh! which hits home the point that we ladies gotsta take it easy--there are many labor intensive things we can do, but know our limitations. I don't think it makes us less than men just structurally different--for example--women are more flexible than guys--but then, men have been able to train themselves to be contortionist-ic gurus...
@sepiasiren Well, I will admit to being a perfectionist control freak. That is pretty typical for restaurant staff though. My feelings are that restaurant workers need better conditions so that injuries happen less often.
Insurance would be nice too, since a lot of cooks do wind up with injuries and have substance abuse problems. (Not in restaurant anymore, but still work on my feet. Taking a class in medical billing!)
@sepiasiren Oh no, unions in Alabama? Those don't really fly! I've only been in a union once. (Joke: "You know you're from Birmingham if you got fired from a bank, your father got laid off at U.S Steel, and your grandfather was beaten up trying to unionize the coal mines.")
In my area of the country (Deep South), many people have established a new ediquitte for door-opening, without it ever being said. Whoever goes first opens the door for the next person. I'm female, and so far no man has complained.
Oh, and pregnant women or disabled women do get a seat on the bus. Everyone else can grab a handhold!
What I do with doors is go first and hold it open for anyone behind me. I've never had a girl complain that I was being sexist. Next time, try establishing your male dominance by walking through the door first and then letting her in.
Additionally... If you hold a door too long it can be embarrassing for both parties involved. Secretly smitten by the person you're holding the door for? Caught holding the door too long because you misjudged the distance or where the person was going? Get caught holding the door open for a long train of people that seems to never end, Lol...
i hate females like that as well and not all women are like that but i hate the females like the ones you explain i am one of the females that believe if you want to be a fire fighter man or female if you cant do the work that is required and you have to do the equal work as the males then dont do it and i believe that guys should also get phaturnity leage after all cenk uygur did (it helps that he was the boss of TYT though) and guys are also abused and its just as bad when they do that as well
I hold doors open for people right behind me all the time no matter the sex and have had the same done for me. I agree with your points though regardless. Likely a result of us living in different locals. Generally when I hold the door it is because it might hurt someone behind me or they are going to have to jump to grab the door. If someone is far enough behind me that the door can fully close before they get to it then I don't unless it is someone in obvious need of assistance.
I also agree that women whine about chivalry being dead when as Dave Chappele aptly put it--they killed it. Why should a man be backhanded for a simple courtesy--no man or woman should want the door slammed in their face. I open doors fro men all the time and vice versa...sad that these simple sweet gestures between us all end up becoming political
there are something that some females hate and that is guys holding doors open for them and the old fashion way of thinking if a stranger does it somebody like you i just take it as they have an old way of thinking and just thank them but when my friends do it i get mad at them because they are younger and should know better especailly since some females get really pissed about it i just tell them they shouldnt do that to stop them from getting in the habbit of it and this is a ha bisky upload
@kazooga1234 Not all girls do--just a random few who give the rest of us a bad name and make men liess inclined to be courteous or gracious--sad really...
@sepiasiren its fine if you do i just like to know what they mean exactly so if somebody else uses it i can know what they are saying and use them myself because i love short hand and create my own at times
@slinkyman2tall and thats' a bad thing? I just think some ppl take the lines of gender equality too far on both sides...I personally like being treated nice--but I in turn like spoiling my man--something alor of women frown on but hey--most of the woman who give me crap for doting on my man are single--LOL!
HUM--I don't think it is a double standard per se. I will agree that women want to have freedom while trying o keep men on lock down and that is GROSSLY unfair--but I think courtesy is not a gender issue. I for example--will open a door for a guy or pay for dinner...Its about courtesy...
It seems like the third wave feminist movement mainly exists in the niche corners of society. There are lots of feminist blogs, youtube videos, books, and such, but I wonder how many non-feminists are being exposed to these ideas. Unfortunately, the vast majority of both men and women shun feminism and blindly accept the current social arrangement in this society. So, acts of kindness are the equivalent of acts of dominance? What if it was an old man walking with a cane, surely you would hold the door open for him, right? Does that mean you are dominating him, and you have power over him?
LadySeraph 5 months ago
@LadySeraph You misunderstand, his opening example was used to demonstrate Western feminist hypocrisy.
PixelDansIronFist 5 months ago
@LadySeraph
88Keyz101 5 months ago
@88Keyz101 I always figured holding the door open was just common courtesy. If there is someone close behind me when I walk into a building, I hold it open for them, and then they hold it for the person behind them, regardless of age, race, or gender. Unless its teenagers, no one holds the door for teenagers. The woman was just being a bitch. But we are social creature. Women depend on men, and men depend on women. We need to help each other out. And yes, beer is helping =)
LadySeraph 5 months ago
o_O I hold the door open for anyone.
Juxtaposedjoker 5 months ago

I would have had some words for her.

kastnmagic 5 months ago

Zerafinel 5 months ago
To the men who don't see any problem with this at all, think about this. I lift heavy things all day. I work hard. I come from a line of women who have always worked hard and who have thus been proud people. Now you come and you take my grocery bags from me, open all my doors for me, and in general treat me like a child. It does not pay respect to the reality of my life, what I've done and what I'm about. Genuinely help, great. But if you're going to play heroguilt games on me, I won't be happy.
Zerafinel 5 months ago
And we can't be treated 100% the same all the time, cause we are after all do different types of humans, males and females, and we are attracted to each other generally. So men will do these kind of things to seem nice, because it's in our nature that we want a partner in life. And if you had closed the door on her, haha, do that next time and see her reaction.

I agree with you for the most part Dadland, however I hold doors for both sexes. It's just polite. I don't think we should cease these actions, just expand them to all. Being polite shouldn't be based on sex or race for that matter.
DarkGlitchX 5 months ago
I'm guilty of opening doors for women but I would feel an absolute pig if I didn't.
godeau12 5 months ago
Dadland you just don't get it. You just live in a weird country where women instanstly get the wrong idea when you do them a favour. I'm sure if you did that in any other country, all you'd get is a smile or a "thank you".
In my home country (France), we greet people of the opposing sex by kissing them on the cheek 2 to 4 times. The only time I did that and it was mega awkward was in the US!!
So girls, next time we smile at you or hold the door, we're not sexist, we're just being us.
BlunderCity 5 months ago
Like the person below me, I also hold the door open for both men and women. If I don't do that I feel like I'm being disrespectful. They can say anything they want to me, but at the end of the day, I was being nice. Another great video. :)

I admit, I go and get help when I need it, I ask either sex for help, it's a matter of whether I know or think the person is able to do what I need help with. There are some things that are not equal, but attacking true gentility is crazy. They need to learn to pick their battles.

That woman is nuts! If a man doesn't open the door i hate that.
missqjulie 5 months ago
@missqjulie

I'm absolutely floored by this video. Fair in every way. I loved what you said about your aunts in Jamaica, I'm sure they were probably proud women and proud of their work. Good role models. I'm sorry there's not a "like very much" button on Youtube :)
Zerafinel 5 months ago
@Zerafinel I am most floored by the fact that someone would assume that opening the doors was sexist and not a courtesy--the assumption is you only open the door for women. Wouldn't that make the woman i herself sexist?
sepiasiren 5 months ago
@sepiasiren Well, when someone opens a door for me, usually I nod and smile and don't make much of it. I was agreeing with the main points of this video. I think we do have responsibility to not accept too many such favors from men. Accept too much of this behavior, and it's not common courtesy anymore. It turns into a game of manipulation, where both men and women try to manipulate each other.
Zerafinel 5 months ago
@Zerafinel I am the same way, but really I think all relationships, intimate and otherwise are about mutual courtesy and respect not about keeping score for fear of political advantages. In a perfect world it would be 50 50 at all times but things happen to change dynamics. . For example--when I had my c-section hubby had to do most of the 'work" as I healed--and when he is sick, I do the same. I also agree with the vids points but fear ppl will take this as a call to keep score...
sepiasiren 5 months ago
i hold the door for others regardless... used to be just for women, but I wrestled with this issue a decade ago... being nice shouldn't be a bad thing.
etzel33 5 months ago
@etzel33
Yes, this is an interesting point. If a woman resents you holding the door, what do you say – "You hold for me tomorrow" ?
I imagine that if everybody had always held doors (or whatever) for everybody else since time immemorial, this wouldn't be an issue. But it's going to take a good decade of same-gender door-holding before suspicion is completely eradicated.
infideluxe 5 months ago
@infideluxe I can see that--but I dunno--I grew up largely in the South where it is expected--haven't experienced the opposite. It is so ingrained in me that I do it for everyone as I see it as a courtesy thing and not a gender thing...I think the women who beleive a man is opening the door for her is doing so because she is a woman is making sexist assumptions...
sepiasiren 5 months ago
@infideluxe rofl... totally agree
etzel33 5 months ago
And I do agree: women must be sure to do whatever their job requires. I think the "lady syndrome" is dying off. I do ask for help at work now, but that's only because my back problems have become very bad. I'm searching for a new line of work now where I don't have to stand all day or move boxes.
amandazillah 5 months ago
@amandazillah yep--women have to learn that equal opportunity doesn't mean we can do all jobs equally...
sepiasiren 5 months ago
@sepiasiren Well, I always did my jobs equally, and it was restaurant and customer service. Now I have a bulging disc in my back. So it's not really about the uterus, but the face that I can't stand still in one place for mosre than an hour, and I can't lift fifty pound bags of flour anymore.
Honestly, I'm only 41 and my body is going to hell faster than I thought it would.
amandazillah 5 months ago
@amandazillah Yeah, but I look at it this way--I worked with a general contractor as a painter for a number of years. We made a great team--but I didn't try to lift the heavy stuff cause I know where my capabilities lie--do not get me wrong--I have met ladies who could bench press my weight over head and it they want to be hard labor contractors they should because they can do the job equally--but such ladies are rare. I was a painter--I stuck to painting--lol
sepiasiren 5 months ago
@sepiasiren Well, sure! That was your job description and there was no reason to do anything outside it. Restaurant is rough work for everyone in the back of the house-hot, steamy, long hours and trying to make everything perfect. (Never went to culinary school, but I did everything from hostess to dishwasher to short order cook.)
My back problems weren't caused by my job, just as an aside. Turned out to be structural/scoliosis. Nobody's fault.
amandazillah 5 months ago
@amandazillah Oh I feel yah on that girl--Ohhh--is there anything you can do surgery wise to correct it?
sepiasiren 5 months ago
@sepiasiren The specialist I saw last thinks I'm not a candidate for surgery-yet. I will probably have to have it in a few years. I was prescribed PT and muscle relaxants if I need them. They haven't giving me the epidurals yet either-those can sometimes make things worse.
amandazillah 5 months ago
@amandazillah

HUM--I don't think it is a double standard per se. I will agree that women want to have freedom while trying o keep men on lock down and that is GROSSLY unfair--but I think courtesy is not a gender issue. I for example--will open a door for a guy or pay for dinner...Its about courtesy...
