Time and again i returned to listen to his talks and interviews and let myself be educated by this great mind. He most definitely is one of the anti-war heroes that he spoke of. It hurts to know that he is no longer around to provide us with insight on current politics.
Second a suggestion. If you really want the MSM to pay attention to you, cut into their profit margin. Don't read/listen/or watch their content.
I cancelled the regular TV half of my cable about 10 months ago. I don't read printed papers anymore. I only watch and listen to news from abroad (and occasionally Democracy Now).
My feeling? If you won't listen to me, I want no part of you. Just an idea.
Important poitn: the reason Japan attacked the US is because the US orchestrated an oil embargo with Britain and the Netherlands to starve out Japan. Pearl Harbour was not so much an act of military aggression as retaliation.
saddened and shocked about his passing! A MONUMENTAL loss for all of us. Foucault is gone, Bourdieu is gone, Zinn is gone who else is left? Chomsky, Galtung, Wallerstein, Pilger.... they're still here ... who else is around?? any names and suggestions where to look for articulate carriers of elements of Zinn still roaming among us?
Interesting that Howard suggested, that Poland maby should've been given to Hitler. I'm astonished by this, because when I read the history books, it is clear that basically Poland HAS been given to Hitler. Allies started taking Nazi Germany seriously, when they invaded France and aimed their crosshair at the UK. If they wouldn't done so, I can bet that our "allies" of Poland wouldn't give a shit about us anyway.
True, but if you listened carefully he said 'no - not appeasement, but resistance, guerilla warfare, sabotage, internal dissent.' Yes, this is difficult (especially at the beginning), but the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto rose up twice during the Nazi occupation of Poland. The Italians rose up and hung Mussolini (communist partisans captured him) by meat hooks in the city of Milan where his corpse was
mutilated by angry citizens. Resistance is possible, difficult, but possible (takes longer to)
Dude, I absolutle agree. The only thing that bugged me, when he said that its a "no-no situation" to say, that Poland should be given up to Germany. He said it, as if rest of the Europe actually did something, when Hitler invaded Poland, which in fact they just sat on their asses.
@pimpolinka69 Yes, but the west was ready to give up Stalin. Stalin actually called on the allies to take a stand when Hitler started to invade Austria, but Poland didn't allow them to pass through. Stalin, seeing that he was being screwed by the allies made a treaty with Hitler, so Hitler went West instead. Hitler and all the other European fascists had been funded by GE, JP Morgan, Mellon, Alcoa and many others. Without help from Standard Oil, their aircraft would not have been able to fly.

Outstanding. Thank you so very much for posting this. I miss Zinn so much, but at least we still have talks like this and his books and works.

Like Paul McCartney says, don't freak out trying to singlehandedly save the world. Break it down into small segments. And go from there.

@fruitsofnews Robert Fisk doesn't really address as broad issues but I've always found his analysis great.
