Man that was awesome. I don't understand how they can pick at that speed so accurately. It makes me want to give up playing guitar. Mindblowingly good.
I really like it. I like Jerry & Chet's ver, too. I like them both. And his name is TOMMY EMMANUEL, he's not Chet.
Too fast for you? showing off? you feel disappointed because it doesn't sound like your expectation?SO WHAT?Do you need Tommy's apology?
Oh yes, he can show off, that's his concert; he can play that fast and with precise tempos, BECAUSE HE CAN.The point is he's enjoying himself, Gareth is enjoying, the audience is enjoying. You didn't pay the ticket, if I were you I would shut up.
These great guitarist's continue to amaze me. Some of the comments do as well. For those that complain about TE being a showoff. He is a player that appeals to non-guitarists. Most guitarists, including myself don't have the confidence or the ability to move around and play the great stuff that he does. He is funny, very melodic in his playing and absolutely loves what he does. Plus he is a super nice guy that respects anyone that tries to play this instrument. Too fast, go learn it yourself!
I've seen Tommy live twice. He's a lovely, genuine bloke who's worked hard at his music. Single most best gigs that I ever went to - and I'm a lifelong AC/DC fan!!
True music shouldn't be a competitors sport. The difference I see in Tommy showboating is he projects a humble openess still and does share his guitar chops with other guitarists rather than being selfish dink about it all. Thats a huge difference IMO.
Let me tell you something, Tommy is a very hard working man. He does the bass, percussion, melody, rhitm, makes people have a good time with his jokes ....All at the same time..you know what ....he does that 340 times yearly he has the right and the ability to show off wich you more than probabely haven 't you dumbass!!
why thumbs down? It's actually too fast. Look the the top video where jerry read (the guy who wrote the damn song) and chet atkins play it. It's awesome
Now Gareth can see what he still has to learn with Tommy standing on the eternal pedestal.....keep it up grasshopper, you may achieve relative greatness. lol
I just clocked this is at 160 bpm. The original was recorded at 137bpm. It's an amazing feat of flying fingers, but at this speed all the coolness of it is sapped out since you can't hear all the neat open string chromaticism going on.
There's always one and Chetplayerwhoknows, is one!I can hear the melody. This version is exciting and Tommy shows that there is no acoustic player to live with him. This is a live performance, so just sit back and admire, maybe you can't. I listened to Jerry/Chets version on youtube, the guitar has moved on a little since then, also, the melody does not seem to stand out as much as the kids due to his accenting certain strings. No pleasing some people eh! Also a Chet fan, but this one does know.
He's got chops, but it was way too fast. Listen to the original with Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed (who wrote it). The melody is much crisper than it comes out here. Of course, two steel-strings via someones camcorder doesn't sound as good via here versus live, but Tommy pushed him too fast! That said, he did a great job of staying in time.
He's great and powerful Tommy Emmanuel! The great guitar virtuoso who hails from the land down under! You should look at some of his stuff! He's awesome!
It sounds too fast at first, but the more you listen to it the more awesome it gets.

And just think - Gareth has had nigh-on three more years since this was filmed.
He's terrifying.
If I had a hat though, it'd be removed. If Tommy is God (if? No question - he is!), then this kid is Jesus.
I hope this doesn't prompt paternity tests! Haha - Rev. Billy would be furious!

No doubt about the quality of the playing, but way too fast. Nobody has ever played this as good as Jerry Reed

agreed, tommy emmanuel has an affinity for playing things so fast that you cant understand a thing thats going on. Not enjoyable
