  • It sounds too fast at first, but the more you listen to it the more awesome it gets.

  • Man that was awesome. I don't understand how they can pick at that speed so accurately. It makes me want to give up playing guitar. Mindblowingly good.

  • fast i skill haha they gould play it slow mow if theyd like

  • I really like it. I like Jerry & Chet's ver, too. I like them both. And his name is TOMMY EMMANUEL, he's not Chet.

Too fast for you? showing off? you feel disappointed because it doesn't sound like your expectation?SO WHAT?Do you need Tommy's apology?

Oh yes, he can show off, that's his concert; he can play that fast and with precise tempos, BECAUSE HE CAN.The point is he's enjoying himself, Gareth is enjoying, the audience is enjoying. You didn't pay the ticket, if I were you I would shut up.

  • @seraphlgabri Agreed.

  • I am shocked that anyone could watch Tommy play anything and have something negative to say about it......blows my mind as much as his playing does!

  • These great guitarist's continue to amaze me. Some of the comments do as well. For those that complain about TE being a showoff. He is a player that appeals to non-guitarists. Most guitarists, including myself don't have the confidence or the ability to move around and play the great stuff that he does. He is funny, very melodic in his playing and absolutely loves what he does. Plus he is a super nice guy that respects anyone that tries to play this instrument. Too fast, go learn it yourself!

  • I've seen Tommy live twice. He's a lovely, genuine bloke who's worked hard at his music. Single most best gigs that I ever went to - and I'm a lifelong AC/DC fan!!

  • 10 minutes ago i was happy because i can played this song.

then i watch this, and now i want to sell my guitar.

    =.=!

  • VIDEO ANSWER

Jerry´s Breakdown -by Martin Schulz Jr. & Evgeny Zhidkov-Schulz( in youtube)

  • 1:28 that sweep picking, isnt it the same sweep as Chet uses on Snowbird?

aha, brilliant playing on both sides

  • toooo fasttt!! yu r right !! whats the point ?? it is "showing off ! te can get away with it ... but other players ?? not !

  • @gittar1 .....but the song really sucks that way

  • damn thats fast :P

  • i agree this is too fast but obviously these guys wanted to have fun

  • i dont think it's too fast... he doesn't have to play it the same way as chet and jerry used to do...

for me the two version are really good!

  • Always funny to c other guitar players really struggling,...and tommy makes it look so easy

  • way to fast. when playd at that speed you can´t enyoy it

  • tommy emmanuel is such a terrible showoff... cant stand it. music is not about competition.

  • True music shouldn't be a competitors sport. The difference I see in Tommy showboating is he projects a humble openess still and does share his guitar chops with other guitarists rather than being selfish dink about it all. Thats a huge difference IMO.

  • Let me tell you something, Tommy is a very hard working man. He does the bass, percussion, melody, rhitm, makes people have a good time with his jokes ....All at the same time..you know what ....he does that 340 times yearly he has the right and the ability to show off wich you more than probabely haven 't you dumbass!!

    my bestest regards

  • eeee sooo faaaaaassss

  • And just think - Gareth has had nigh-on three more years since this was filmed.

    He's terrifying.

If I had a hat though, it'd be removed. If Tommy is God (if? No question - he is!), then this kid is Jesus.

I hope this doesn't prompt paternity tests! Haha - Rev. Billy would be furious!

  • great - but WAY too fast

  • why thumbs down? It's actually too fast. Look the the top video where jerry read (the guy who wrote the damn song) and chet atkins play it. It's awesome

  • No doubt about the quality of the playing, but way too fast. Nobody has ever played this as good as Jerry Reed

  • agreed, tommy emmanuel has an affinity for playing things so fast that you cant understand a thing thats going on. Not enjoyable

  • Just because YOU can't understand it does not diminish how fricking good it is.

  • fast does not means good

  • In fact, good means Tommy Emmanuel.

  • @GuruzGTfast could not means good.. but if you can play fast and clean like them, that means you are VERY GOOD

  • @GuruzGTfast could not means good.. but if you can play fast and clean like them, that means you are VERY GOOD!!

  • @GuruzGTfast could not means good.. but if you can play fast and clean like them, that means you are VERY GOOD!!

  • Now Gareth can see what he still has to learn with Tommy standing on the eternal pedestal.....keep it up grasshopper, you may achieve relative greatness. lol

  • have seen both of them; fucking awesome

  • no, it isnt, but speed and melody is! which is what he's doing...

  • Speed isn't everything...

  • indeed, the evidence is in the video, there are more things going on in the video than speed.

  • This is SICK!!!...actually in a weird way...ORGASMIC!! Later...

  • Yeah... way too fast, can't hear melody at all

  • bravi

  • I just clocked this is at 160 bpm. The original was recorded at 137bpm. It's an amazing feat of flying fingers, but at this speed all the coolness of it is sapped out since you can't hear all the neat open string chromaticism going on.

  • oh my god its so fast!! keep raging!!!

  • amazing playing, but they did indeed play this tune way too fast.

  • damn! that's hot shit!

  • no such thnig as too fast this song would be amazing what ever speed its played at not very slow but the faster the better fucking love it (:

  • This is a performance... but too fast !

  • he freaking sweeped.....on an acoustic...with his fingers...

  • cos hes awesome

  • i can understand what u feel.... my reaction was also like WTF?

  • Well, actually he sweeped with his thumbpick. I don't think you could actually sweep very well with the fingers.

  • There's always one and Chetplayerwhoknows, is one!I can hear the melody. This version is exciting and Tommy shows that there is no acoustic player to live with him. This is a live performance, so just sit back and admire, maybe you can't. I listened to Jerry/Chets version on youtube, the guitar has moved on a little since then, also, the melody does not seem to stand out as much as the kids due to his accenting certain strings. No pleasing some people eh! Also a Chet fan, but this one does know.

  • He's got chops, but it was way too fast. Listen to the original with Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed (who wrote it). The melody is much crisper than it comes out here. Of course, two steel-strings via someones camcorder doesn't sound as good via here versus live, but Tommy pushed him too fast! That said, he did a great job of staying in time.

  • I taught Gareth Pearson's Dad to play the guitar!

  • Holy shit, this is so nasty.

  • Great stuff and from someone so young!

  • are you kidding?

  • I've heard of Gareth Pearson (the young Welsh guitar wizz) but who's that guy with him? He seems quite good.

  • He's great and powerful Tommy Emmanuel! The great guitar virtuoso who hails from the land down under! You should look at some of his stuff! He's awesome!

  • That was fucing awesome!!! How old is Gareth!??

Ive never heard of him before, he really knows how to play!!!

  • He's 17, unless I'm mistaken

  • 18 now! I THINK

  • OMFG!!! Sweet ass titties!!!! That was some hardcore guitar playing right there! Cheers! Later...

  • Them glorified rockers don't stand a chance with these guys!

  • Brilliant footage! Tommy was fairly pushing Gareth there, and he rose to the challenge! Awesome!
