Let's not discount that very riffy and economic guitar lead by the lefty Elliot Easton ... there's not a single wasted pick, or rest, in this short, eight measure, lead.
It must have been about 1984 - I decided I was going to run away from home (I was about 10) - so I packed this album (12") and took my dog and hoofed it off down the road - (my mom stood in the driveway and waved goodbye) - I went down the road and sat at the park for the afternoon...
"Now Accepting Donations to Build a Time Machine Back to the 80's." Saw that comment on video for Owner of Lonely Heart. It says it all: So far has 119 thumbs up. I love it!
Great song, vid, and real talent. THIS is what MTV fun to watch. Now you get reality garbage. Lame shows that are NOT music. Who wants reality shows like the ones they have? UNGH!!! I miss THIS!!!! When will they wake up and put the MUSIC back on. zzzzzzzzzzz B O R I N G tv. Here we get what we want.
one of the best rock party bands ever!!!! so many great hit songs that are timeless.....people will be "shakin it up! and dancing all night 100 years from now! lol
I went to Africa and only brought an album by The Cars and another by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. I over-listened to both bands, and now the songs are ingrained in my head.
@satancouldkillyounow Uh- NO WAY!!!! Sorry but there is NO comparison to the cars and John C.M..... :o Just my opinion but I think quite a few would agree, besides the fact that the only similarities between their music is the fact both are from the 80's.
@fluffycatluv I was responding to the earthquake comment.
I love The Cars but really could care less for JCM. He has a couple of decent tunes, but my style is totally "The Cars". I have listened to them for days on end...nothing but my The Cars Anthology CDs.
Someone said they should put this with Haitian earthquake footage and I recommended the JCM song "Crumblin down" as a better alternative and I still stand by that. :)
If you have not seen the movie from the 80s, "The Last American Virgin", with a great soundtrack and with this song included, well by golly you have got to see it, and shit its f..... hilarious!
@myrese99 That was a great movie but I have get a copy from somewhere I haven't seen it in a long time. My favorite tune from it was I Will Follow by U2.
You know why people love the 80's so much? Because it was FUN. The music, movies and TV shows just made you feel good. I crack a smile every time I hear this song...just like I did when it was in rotation more than a quarter-century ago.
@Skyrift I agree, I was born in the early 80's (First Reagan term) and everything was so fun and upbeat. I lived in Germany and we had the Scorpions and Nena. LOL!!!
But music was so innocent, my parents could listen to the one English only station all day and not worry about me hearing something I shouldn't. From Peter Gabriel, to the Cars, to Tears for Fears, to the almighty Prince. My first 9 years were spent listening to these classics.
is the like shake it up intended to be a reference to Twist and Shout? just wondering and this is a great song from a real fun band, the real Pop music! LOL
One of the best songs of the 80s! Whenever I hear this, it inspires me to do anything I want, ANYTHING I WANT! Thanks for posting. The 80s rule! Those were the days. Nostalgia, nostalgia, and nostalgia!

@pacree It's not a TV edit. It's a monaural rip of a stereo track. You're only hearing one speaker =)
