Amy, the military is a microcosm of society. Just like individuals in the civilian world, individuals in the military have existing issues as well. War doesn't necessarily help these issues, but it almost certainly isn't the cause of them. Why would the Iraq war akll of a sudden cause you to want to take your own life? Maybe his GF left him, maybe home-life was in shambles. There's plenty of underlying factors Troops in combat deal with. You can't blame the military or the war for a suicide.

My husband's cousin was also in Iraq on an extended tour and he was required to kill Iraqui families because they did not stop at a checkpoint as ordered. He even had to kill the kids.

Of course this led to a nervous breakdown. They treated him in the hospital and sent him back to work in the bomb detection unit. His unit was killed in a roadside bomb right after he switched to a different car.

My unit lost more people than any other unit that has gone through Iraq. 600 infantry Marines 48 killed, 200+ wounded in 7 months in ONE BATTALION If a speeding car comes barelling into your checkpoint you have 2 options. Kill or be killed. We had a van that came down an alley on my platoon May 7th 2005, we didn't shoot fast enough-end result? 4 dead Marines 12 wounded out of 22! No one is "required to kill Iraqi families" what the fuck are you talking about?

The way you stated it sounded like it was a requirement-some "order" or common practice. My platoon was involved in 13 IED's 3 anti-tank mines and two Suicide vehicle bombs.
