This is the GS-2, a model that was in use prior to the GS-4. The GS-4 #4449 remains in operation today. There's a GS-6 at a museum somewhere, but AFAIK those are the only GS-class locomotives that still exist.
It LOOKS just like a GS-4, but is an older sister, right? The only Daylight's that exist I know are the 4449, and the "forgotten" 4460, but I am very unfamiliar with trains of the west coast. I wouldn't know if #4412 or classmates exist still today.
It's actually a fog, not smoke. The heating element boils off the smoke fluid (mineral oil) and it condenses as a visible fog when it leaves the smokestack.
inside the front area of the boiler, the O gauge steamer has a compartment that holds a special fluid known as "smoke fluid" (which is poured in through the smokestack by the user). located within the smoke-compartment is a heating element. when the heating element boils the smoke fluid, it creates a thick white (non-toxic) smoke which is puffed out of the smokestack by a small pulsing fan that is synchronized with the drive wheels and chuff sounds by the computer board.
The front coupler is a scale model that does not couple to a standard 3-rail knuckle coupler. The model comes with a dummy 3-rail knuckle that can be substituted for the scale one so that you can use it in pusher service or double-head it with another locomotive.
DCS greatly enhances the fun of running PS2 locomotives. All of the videos of PS2 lokies that I've posted are shot using DCS to control the speed, the whistle, etc. during filming. If you have PS2 locomotives, you owe it to yourself to try DCS.
The cab and tender are way off.

Donno if anyone noticed, but have you noticed that the daylight is 4449 and this is 4412? Unless they renumbered it some time?
