  • Beautiful music, beautifully played. Thanks. I've loved Hasse's music since first hearing it and finding a wonderful CD of his trio sonatas.

  • Beautiful.

  • @StringSymmetry

    thanks!

  • SING MAN SING!!!

  • i have not heard such a beautiful piece, in such a long time.. thank you so much for sharing.. and your playing is a pleasure and a joy to listen to.. i can understand the passion you emit..

  • @walkingonair

    thanks!

  • yes very beautiful! was recorded with the audio technica 3035?

  • Do you know where I could find a book with this aria in it for voice?

  • my suspicion is that it would not be in print. baroque operas by even better known composers are pretty hard to find. I could be wrong. Scour google for it.

  • I know this is an old video and you have upgraded, but do you remember where you placed your mics? I'm trying to get a good sound out of mine. I almost thought you had them XY, but I'm not sure.

  • nice sond and nice play ;)

i hear u use the bluetube with the original tube, change it with a 12au7 or 12at7 and the sound will be less noisy

  • i'm guessing that's the part number of the tube inside? are those replaceable? i've never looked at opening the thing up. thanks for the suggestion.

  • yes, i got the same preamp, presonus bluetube, and changing the tube is very easy. If u look at the bluetube manual (see on the web) u can read that presonus suggests to change it, i think they already know it sucks :)....and i suggest electro harmonix 12au7 or 12at7 gold pins (about 12 euro) bye!

ps: sorry for my english if it sucks like the tube asd

  • thanks. i'll check into that. and your english is perfectly fine by the way

  • Do you memorize your pieces before you record them or are you playing from standard sheet music / tabs or both? Thanks...I'm learning classical myself and vids like this are very inspirational and helpful.

  • sometimes yes, sometimes no. typically if it's learned from score, it's from standard score, not tablature. In this case the score is half memorized, half read while playing. good luck with your studies. thanks for watching

  • That's the 2nd mic that you see. the other one is an AT (i believe it's a 3035, don't remember).

    Thanks!

  • Great music, Great artist!

  • Thank you for raising the standards for us younger musicians. We very much appreciate it.

  • sounds like music played whenever the american civil war comes up on tv

  • Very nice indeed. I know little of the classical guitar repertoire and this piece is new to my ears. Thank you for posting it.

    Ron

  • Very nice music. Nice picture of Kim Novak on your home page also. Great taste in both.

  • very nice!

  • The old logitech microphone sounded louder and maybe a little crisper I just compared it with some of your older videos... I bought the same one The playing still sounds amazing...

    Thanks

  • thanks. yeah, i agree. the other videos sound crispier.

  • Best classical guitarist on youtube.

  • .....welllll, i dunno about that. But Thanks!

  • Beautiful .....

    Marcello

  • Hey pal, this is sounding like a professional recording. And that's no easy task given YouTube's sound quality to begin with. Excellently played! Chris

  • Hello Tony .Beautiful music .The sound is good ,clearly and the volume is good. Reassure.Friendly.*****

  • Very well played

  • truly classic!!! i'm subbed!

  • Beautiful job!! You should be the spokesperson for Taylor's nylon line of guitars. It sounds really, really good!!

    Glen

  • que manera mas bonita de tocar

  • beautiful..

  • Please try to play "Sentimento: Se voce pergunta nunca vai saber" by Baden Powell from the LP "É de Lei".... It is a very beautiful song....

  • I saw your name on my Winamp/AOL player...I missed what music you were playing...but you were ON IT! I only saw your name flash off as it loaded another song. Wish I had heard it..that's a pretty good fidelity streamcast...not like here.

    Good for you!

  • I don't know what that is, some kind of webradio? There is also a band called Troubleclef (little did I know when i chose this user name! I thought I was being so original.) So it might have been them.

  • If you install WinAmp, you get about 300 streaming radio stations..and one of them carries South American/Latin-type music. That's where I saw your name the other day.

I will try to monitor them for your name again...and when I see it, I'll get the link for you if I can.

  • Beautiful

  • you got very good taste, I really enjoy classical guitar sound :D 5*

  • Excelente

  • you never dissapoint. When there's a new video of yours, I know I'm in for a treat.

    Thanks for that.

    Pascal

  • btw, your sound is exquisite, on my end!

  • Hi there! It is so well played!! I enjoyed it a lot!

And the sound is great too! You have a great setup there!!

    See you!

    Per-Olov

  • it is always nice to watch your videos, excellent

  • As usual, beautiful piece, flawless execution. I have come to expect no less from you. I am so impressed with your guitar work. What a talent! Thanks for all of the wonderful postings. My music world is richer because of them. :)

  • thanks a lot. cheers

  • WOW! That's just perfect, your technique is so good and your guitar sings.

  • yes, i enjoyed this much.

  • Nice piece. I thought it sounded fine actually. Volume was fine. Maybe slightly too round, perhaps more nail or the mic near the sound hole? Maybe I'm just looking for stuff to say....

I have the same book and somehow I enjoyed it more when following along with the music! (...for me, summers are for playing the guitar once again :))

  • Hello friend,

it's a really beautifull tune, you play it with motion, and the recording is excellent.

    Bravo

    Patrice

  • Old Stuff - but good stuff.

  • Wonderful, as always. I had never heard this piece by Hasse, but you play it superbly. By the way, are left or right handed? I noticed you used the mouse with your left hand, but you play the guitar as a right handed player. Just curious!

  • hahahaha. I'm ambidextrous with the mouse but not the guitar! i'm righthanded

  • This is a really good piece. Well played. Not sure why you're not getting the levels. How are you liking the Bluetube?

  • well, i'm such a technical know-nothing that i'm not sure what a preamp really *does*. I know I can RTFM, of course. So little time...

  • beautiful

  • Why don't you just get an acoustic electric?

  • that actually is, and yes that's another option

  • thanks. i'll take that into account. i am planning so "one mic" recording next

  • Very beautiful sound.

  • lovely.veramente bravo.

  • Excellent very beautiful piece and arrangement. The AT 3035 is an excellent mic for your recordings. They are well very well suited for your music here; however, you might like to know that YT has only recently tweaked the audio settings to ensure that all incoming flv vids are "mono only" and not stereo...nice guys! This might be affecting the distortion and the levels in your recording/recordings somewhat.

Well, who cares right? I love troubleclef's guitar even if it were on AM radio! :)

  • possibly, but the original clip sounds like crap too. :<

i'll figure something out eventually. by the time i'm 80. :D

  • In response to your question... When compared to other Youtube videos the sound of this one is actually a bit loud (not quiet like you suggested). It sounds like there is a tiny bit of distortion to me (oddly I'm hearing it in the mid tones) but I suspect it is a result of youtube's onw processing.

I loved the music. Just what I needed after a very hectic day.

  • i agree, i hear the distortion in the middle too

  • OMG! I loved it. I think i wouldn't mind having it at my wedding!

  • I think the sound is fine now, and it's a delight to watch and listen to you play, as usual! <3

  • another fine piece.

  • In my opinion this interpretation is perfect this way just without any suggested adjustments ! ( excuse me people :-) ).

You play clear and straight and to our emotions!

    Bravissimo.

    Luigi

  • Fine playing Tony, your sound is better with this microphone, fuller and more mid frequency, enjoyed it,greetings Vic.

  • Fantastic as always.

*response to how the recording sounds

your last video's volume was a little low but this one sounds very nice

  • very beautiful as always! 5 stars

  • Thank you!

  • I really like the sound and you play very good as always. This work will fit nicely as a wedding processional music, but is it meant as a prelude or postlude? If prelude I would perhaps play the beginning in a more vivid or "pompous" way, but that's a matter of taste I guess :)

  • Absolutely wonderful. Nothing more to say...

  • Lindíssimo.

    Bravo.

  • Great stuff. You should try an X-Y setup with your mics. Might get some great results.

  • I love your work. And I absolutely LOVE that guitar!!! How much did it run you?

  • great music...

    I love it...

    thank you, brother...

  • Beautiful one, thanks.

    Val ;-)

  • Thank you Val. So glad you like it.

  • u should to earn alot of money

    playing like that

  • Magnific

  • Superb ! Excellent sound ! The bass notes come through much clearer !

  • mmmmmmm Amor q lindo ! besos

  • Este viejito es un maestro!!!

  • This is beautiful! I don't know the technical terms but I do know when I hear something that sounds good and this sounds way, way beyond good!!! Don't forget to bring your guitar to the party. Wonderful music (as always). Vicki

  • now this is a very sweet guitar player.........jessie

  • The sound is good, the tone is appropriately mellow and playing is bloody excellent as always. Well done friend, wonderful stuff.

  • Mmm the sound is not that low, really! At least not as low as on my vids lol.

Great video of course, as always!

    Best,

    Jo

  • that's funny, because i noticed how nice i thought the sound was on a couple of your recent videos. isn't it strange how subjective this all is? i don't know how audio producers ever know a single thing about what they're doing! :D

  • That IS funny! Mmm maybe it had more to do with my fabulous guitar lol.

  • Well done troubleclef.

An artist like yourself may never be quite satisfied with the sound but i`m happy with it.

    5/5

  • your ability to express feeling through musical technique is amazing! great videos as always cheers

  • Sounds a lot like "frosty the snowman" in the first 5 seconds. Ha.

  • Lovely song, delicate execution, love how you can play all styles of music and make it look so easy. have you heard of SILVIO RODRIGUEZ? you'll probably like him, maybe you can delite us with some of his work.

  • yes, i have a couple Silvio recordings but have never dug very deep into them. somebody a long time ago played me some of his things which i really liked but have never been able to find quite the same sound in the cd's i do have.

  • Really nice song and lovley playing!

    Sarah :-)

  • Mellifluous and impeccably played! How do you make it look so easy? BTW, it looks as though you may be reading. Are you?

  • thanks. yes, it's not memorized yet. Hey, can you send me the link to your student again (i deleted it by accident)

  • It sounded great to me, very good guitar technique as well. Keep up the good work!

  • per tutti gli amanti fedeli !

  • tanks more for your playng classical music of my country (Italia).

You are always great and professional musician

  • I have my volume on about 35%. I turned it up to 85% without any distortion. Sounds great as always. You are one of You Tubes finest musicians.

  • Exquisite.

  • super!!!

  • Even if you posted a video with distorted audio, I'd still give you a gazillion stars. Heck, I'd give you stars just to watch you tune the thing.

  • :D thanks!

  • Hi tony, beautifull song.

I want hear more beatles songs, I realy love yours beatles songs

  • Smooth niceness as usual

    and now Baroque

  • thanks again!

  • sounds nice tony, a condenser mic is better though than the mic you have for acoustic guitar- and a little reverb would help fill in the sound nicely.

beautiful song and playing as usual!

  • thanks man. actually the sm57 pictured is mic #2 in my current setup. the other is a condenser (AT 3035). since youtube is mono i'm going to try recording just on that one mic and see how it ends up sounding. the source video will be strange coming out of only one speaker, but the clip on youtube may sound better than this.

  • it's not low at all. I could listen to it perfectly and did not have to turn the sound of my speakers too much.

great video, great arrangement and great player!

    (L)

  • I could listen to you play all day

    beautiful

  • Majestic!

    --Van

  • vurry nice

  • Hi.

Beautiful playing as usual!. I find having the mic as close to the sound hole as poss (maybe 6-8"), just above the strings, gives the most accurate results. Closer it is the lower you can have mic volume (less hiss/clipping etc).

    Hope helps. Phil

  • thanks, i'll try that, though i found that getting any closer with the AT3035 resulted in too much everything.

  • Troubleclef: I'd like to ask, on a different note, whether you have heard of D'Gary of Madagascar (the island not the movie!). If not, i'd like to burn a CD and mail to you. I'd love to hear your opinion of his work and perhaps hear you have a go! Need some where to mail but you don't want to broadcast to everyone. This isn't a promo. Regards, John

    ps. Like this. Hasse piece.

  • Beautiful piece of music very well played.Cheers.

  • Thanks for the warning - in fact I haven't found such a discrepancy in your volume levels after quickly comparing four other videos in different genres. The quiet notes are coming through sensitively and beautifully.

  • It sounds pretty good, but I am getting a little bit of clipping (just a little). Have you tried adjusting the microphone so that it is close to the body of the guitar? My guess is that the sweet spot would be just to the north of the hole but just south of the headstock.

Also, have you considered the accoustics of the room in which you play? With an omni-directional mic it is really important to focus the sound of the guitar from as many directions as possible.

  • i'm going to try that.

The room is definitely not Abbey Road, for sure. but i don't think any other room in my apartment would be any better. thanks for the input.

  • Sounds clear to me.Great bass and treble response.Balance between the two is excellent. My next upgrade is better audio on my videos.Instead of the mic from my sony sr camcorder.Your sound on your videos is always good but compared to your "Sonata in Dm" this sound is much better/fuller sounding.Keep tweakin but it already sounds great !

    Chris

  • thanks. only the latest two videos i did are with the AT and the Shure, so yeah they sound better than the little usb mic i was using before (for instance on the scarlatti).

but still it just sounds muddy to me.

  • I agree with Hermann on the sound. Comparing this one with "Maybe", this one doesn't sound quite as clear and sharp. However, the volume sounds louder on this one, but it is picking up some of the shuffling noise in the background. I still enjoy the song very much. Watching a perfectionist at work.

    Thanks for posting .. John

  • that's interesting because "maybe" was with the same set (albeit different placement, levels et cetera). these two videos (this one and 'maybe') are the only two i've done with the new microphones

  • Beautiful job . . . nice sound, I know you'll work out the bugs you menetion.

  • Well done, of course. You must have a newer (or older) version of "The Baroque Guitar". Mine, dated 1974 doesn't have this tune ... the recording level sounds as good as anything I can achieve using an AKG C1000S microphone, a Bluetube preamp and an M-Audio 1010LT sound card in a Linux box. Good luck squeezing more juice out of your hardware.

  • i forgot to put the recording setup specs in the description which i will now do, ie:

    Audio Technica AT-3035

    Shure SM-57

    Bluetube preamp

    Tascam US-224

Recorded directly to the finished product using "Windows Movie Maker"

  • Nice to hear you again! The sound was better before. The microfon is disturbing in the video. If you had been gone directly with the mic into the mic-input on your computer the signal from the mic is not high enough, but you can push it up with a software like nero 7 or you can use a preamp for the mic and go into the line in from your computer. But the most important is to go on with your music.

    Greetings

    Hermann

  • thanks for the suggestions. i am using a bluetube preamp and two microphones (one you can see is the Shure, the other an AT). i'm going to experiment with just one for giggles. cheers.

  • Sound is great! Very nice playing!

  • Wow...Tony, I've got that book too. I remember trying Gaspar Sanz Canarios years ago. YOU should do that one. Great as usual.

  • it's a great series of books it is. i used to play the Canarios. justifiably famous piece that one is. i should dust if off. as i recall i could never get the proper "snap" to the very Spanish rhythm on that one.

  • It sounds good but Youtube always uploads the vids in Mono, so it's kind of hard to get a realy great qaulity sound!!.. other than that the performance is excellent!!

  • yeah. mono may actually help with what i'm planning next though (i'm going to use just the AT and put it closer to the guitar and drop the trim and gain)

  • Excellent. Where've you been?

  • thanks. just been shoring up things i already know how to play instead of learning more and more and forgetting the old stuff. it's always a balancing act.

  • Great technique and sound.

No problems audiowise at my end.

    5/5

  • thanks again.

  • Simply astounding.
