i have not heard such a beautiful piece, in such a long time.. thank you so much for sharing.. and your playing is a pleasure and a joy to listen to.. i can understand the passion you emit..
my suspicion is that it would not be in print. baroque operas by even better known composers are pretty hard to find. I could be wrong. Scour google for it.
I know this is an old video and you have upgraded, but do you remember where you placed your mics? I'm trying to get a good sound out of mine. I almost thought you had them XY, but I'm not sure.
yes, i got the same preamp, presonus bluetube, and changing the tube is very easy. If u look at the bluetube manual (see on the web) u can read that presonus suggests to change it, i think they already know it sucks :)....and i suggest electro harmonix 12au7 or 12at7 gold pins (about 12 euro) bye!
ps: sorry for my english if it sucks like the tube asd
Do you memorize your pieces before you record them or are you playing from standard sheet music / tabs or both? Thanks...I'm learning classical myself and vids like this are very inspirational and helpful.
sometimes yes, sometimes no. typically if it's learned from score, it's from standard score, not tablature. In this case the score is half memorized, half read while playing. good luck with your studies. thanks for watching
The old logitech microphone sounded louder and maybe a little crisper I just compared it with some of your older videos... I bought the same one The playing still sounds amazing...
Hey pal, this is sounding like a professional recording. And that's no easy task given YouTube's sound quality to begin with. Excellently played! Chris
I saw your name on my Winamp/AOL player...I missed what music you were playing...but you were ON IT! I only saw your name flash off as it loaded another song. Wish I had heard it..that's a pretty good fidelity streamcast...not like here.
I don't know what that is, some kind of webradio? There is also a band called Troubleclef (little did I know when i chose this user name! I thought I was being so original.) So it might have been them.
If you install WinAmp, you get about 300 streaming radio stations..and one of them carries South American/Latin-type music. That's where I saw your name the other day.
I will try to monitor them for your name again...and when I see it, I'll get the link for you if I can.
As usual, beautiful piece, flawless execution. I have come to expect no less from you. I am so impressed with your guitar work. What a talent! Thanks for all of the wonderful postings. My music world is richer because of them. :)
Nice piece. I thought it sounded fine actually. Volume was fine. Maybe slightly too round, perhaps more nail or the mic near the sound hole? Maybe I'm just looking for stuff to say....
I have the same book and somehow I enjoyed it more when following along with the music! (...for me, summers are for playing the guitar once again :))
Wonderful, as always. I had never heard this piece by Hasse, but you play it superbly. By the way, are left or right handed? I noticed you used the mouse with your left hand, but you play the guitar as a right handed player. Just curious!
Excellent very beautiful piece and arrangement. The AT 3035 is an excellent mic for your recordings. They are well very well suited for your music here; however, you might like to know that YT has only recently tweaked the audio settings to ensure that all incoming flv vids are "mono only" and not stereo...nice guys! This might be affecting the distortion and the levels in your recording/recordings somewhat.
Well, who cares right? I love troubleclef's guitar even if it were on AM radio! :)
In response to your question... When compared to other Youtube videos the sound of this one is actually a bit loud (not quiet like you suggested). It sounds like there is a tiny bit of distortion to me (oddly I'm hearing it in the mid tones) but I suspect it is a result of youtube's onw processing.
I loved the music. Just what I needed after a very hectic day.
I really like the sound and you play very good as always. This work will fit nicely as a wedding processional music, but is it meant as a prelude or postlude? If prelude I would perhaps play the beginning in a more vivid or "pompous" way, but that's a matter of taste I guess :)
This is beautiful! I don't know the technical terms but I do know when I hear something that sounds good and this sounds way, way beyond good!!! Don't forget to bring your guitar to the party. Wonderful music (as always). Vicki
that's funny, because i noticed how nice i thought the sound was on a couple of your recent videos. isn't it strange how subjective this all is? i don't know how audio producers ever know a single thing about what they're doing! :D
Lovely song, delicate execution, love how you can play all styles of music and make it look so easy. have you heard of SILVIO RODRIGUEZ? you'll probably like him, maybe you can delite us with some of his work.
yes, i have a couple Silvio recordings but have never dug very deep into them. somebody a long time ago played me some of his things which i really liked but have never been able to find quite the same sound in the cd's i do have.
thanks man. actually the sm57 pictured is mic #2 in my current setup. the other is a condenser (AT 3035). since youtube is mono i'm going to try recording just on that one mic and see how it ends up sounding. the source video will be strange coming out of only one speaker, but the clip on youtube may sound better than this.
Beautiful playing as usual!. I find having the mic as close to the sound hole as poss (maybe 6-8"), just above the strings, gives the most accurate results. Closer it is the lower you can have mic volume (less hiss/clipping etc).
Troubleclef: I'd like to ask, on a different note, whether you have heard of D'Gary of Madagascar (the island not the movie!). If not, i'd like to burn a CD and mail to you. Thanks for the warning - in fact I haven't found such a discrepancy in your volume levels after quickly comparing four other videos in different genres. The quiet notes are coming through sensitively and beautifully.
It sounds pretty good, but I am getting a little bit of clipping (just a little). Have you tried adjusting the microphone so that it is close to the body of the guitar? My guess is that the sweet spot would be just to the north of the hole but just south of the headstock.
Also, have you considered the accoustics of the room in which you play? With an omni-directional mic it is really important to focus the sound of the guitar from as many directions as possible.
Sounds clear to me.Great bass and treble response.Balance between the two is excellent. My next upgrade is better audio on my videos.Instead of the mic from my sony sr camcorder.Your sound on your videos is always good but compared to your "Sonata in Dm" this sound is much better/fuller sounding.Keep tweakin but it already sounds great !
thanks. only the latest two videos i did are with the AT and the Shure, so yeah they sound better than the little usb mic i was using before (for instance on the scarlatti).
I agree with Hermann on the sound. Comparing this one with "Maybe", this one doesn't sound quite as clear and sharp. However, the volume sounds louder on this one, but it is picking up some of the shuffling noise in the background. I still enjoy the song very much. Watching a perfectionist at work.
that's interesting because "maybe" was with the same set (albeit different placement, levels et cetera). these two videos (this one and 'maybe') are the only two i've done with the new microphones
Well done, of course. You must have a newer (or older) version of "The Baroque Guitar". Mine, dated 1974 doesn't have this tune ... the recording level sounds as good as anything I can achieve using an AKG C1000S microphone, a Bluetube preamp and an M-Audio 1010LT sound card in a Linux box. Good luck squeezing more juice out of your hardware.
Nice to hear you again! The sound was better before. The microfon is disturbing in the video. If you had been gone directly with the mic into the mic-input on your computer the signal from the mic is not high enough, but you can push it up with a software like nero 7 or you can use a preamp for the mic and go into the line in from your computer. But the most important is to go on with your music.
thanks for the suggestions. i am using a bluetube preamp and two microphones (one you can see is the Shure, the other an AT). i'm going to experiment with just one for giggles. cheers.
it's a great series of books it is. i used to play the Canarios. justifiably famous piece that one is. i should dust if off. as i recall i could never get the proper "snap" to the very Spanish rhythm on that one.
It sounds good but Youtube always uploads the vids in Mono, so it's kind of hard to get a realy great qaulity sound!!.. other than that the performance is excellent!!
yeah. mono may actually help with what i'm planning next though (i'm going to use just the AT and put it closer to the guitar and drop the trim and gain)
