  • It's funny I saw Stevie in 1983' in Dallas, open the Moody Blues and had never heard of him. I was bummed that I had to listen to another opening act before the headliner. After the 2nd song I coulda cared less about the Moody Blues. SRV was the best I've ever seen and I've seen all the greatest players, except Hendrix.

  • CAN ANYONE tell me(apart from D.Chaska)who can 'play' an ACOUSTIC 12 -string like Stevie?????I'll eat my 'HAT' on 'Skype'4 ya'!!!!!!XXXXXCreashonrebel

  • SRV was--and still is--pure magic. There's just something about that guy. It's like he's just tapped in and exudes life energy. Most exciting guitarist to watch -- ever IMHO.

  • Just SRV! The best

  • YES!!!

    \m/

  • I came for satch..but stayed because of stevie

  • I helped srv write this song....

  • Who the fuck cares if Satriani is even in the same building at that time. That is a TRUE MASTER playing right there. Holy shit does SRV rip.

  • The master.

  • this is Rude mood....... srv was the best ... da best..

  • buenizimo |m|. yeah ray vaughan master

  • Music Television / MTV--- Today SA. Suck ass.

  • This was one of the very first Unplugs. It's pre-Jersey shore kids. Back when MTV actually acted like they cared about music and not drunk whores from the garden state. In this epsisode, which I remember so well, Satriani was the other guest. American "music" television sure has gone a long way straight down the toilet since this era.

  • I guess Satriani was part of the audience :p

  • dude!! satriani are dawn in the seat learning from the MASTER!!!!!!

  • satriani sucks up steve

  • satriani whishes he was there

  • Thank God Satriani is not here, pheeeeeew, don't ruin something good Joe and keep doing your virtuoso gimmicky stuff somewhere else.

  • MTV use to be good now there alot of rap and I just don't want to watch it!! If they had music like that I think that kids would really lern to like the music for the 50's - 90's. Now on tv they have this shit music that kid's like and I'm only 13 yearsa old, and I love SRV I love all oldies thats all I listen to :), I would give my life to shake that mans hand. Hes a amazing guitar player!! <3

  • @Lindseybabee123 yeah it's hard to believe, but I grew up watching MUSIC television...yep, it actually played music lol

  • @Deciblaster My dad shows me all the music MTV use to play, and it was great, not they have this crap they call music. If MTV showed the music from back then like Led Zepplin, Van halen, SRV, and so on the was real music. Not the Sh** they have today :( lol I always wanted to grow up in the 70's I love the music and the 80's as well. Lovee the musicc :P

  • I would give my beautiful sunburst telecaser to shake his hand, 1 second

  • MTV used to be good :L wow gone down fucking hill now!

  • ID trade my soul for SRV right hand !!!

  • Man 1:47... awesome!

  • one and only SRV

  • I have played guitar for 40 years, and I have seen thousands of GREAT players - but I NEVER seen ANYONE attack a 12 string like THAT before!

    RIP SRV!!!

  • Satriani is great, but he got absolutely schooled in this double bill. It was great and terrible to see.

  • wooow

  • With Cheats... even me! ¬¬

  • are u sure this isnt on fast forward?? :S

  • jam .... baby .... jam

  • watch the video for SRV and Jimmy vaughn doing pipeline together on a double neck guitar its mind blowing

  • watch the video for SRV and Jimmy vaughn doing pipeline together on a double neck guitar its mind blowing

  • I love the different acoustic sound of that run at 1:07 to 1:11.

  • I learned to play guitar sitting in the classical position. After watching this video I am officially switching my guitar to my right leg.

  • Uhhhh where's Satriani?

  • @ninesilverguns

Where he belongs. (not in stevie's presence)

  • @ninesilverguns satriani was holding the camera....

  • dont use satriani's name if hes not here.. idiot

  • Comment removed

  • @Leadista08 This clip actually has Satriani in the following moments wich this video didnt capture.. idiot

  • I recalled that Satriani was first. Playing intricate musicians music (yeech) and the Stevie came out and rocked the shit out of a 12 string no less. Yes they are basically the same as a 6 string but you don't play blues runs and solos like that on a 12 string. They are usually jangly rhythm instruments. Not smoking blues leads. He had to had scary strong hands to pull that off.

  • @chazworm And if he was doing it in the typical Stevie 13's fashion he would've had a shit-ton of neck problems on that guitar!

  • @PRSguy94 cool?

  • wow

  • when people knew real music

  • What's that's song?I forgot

  • @ZombieMan496 "Rude Mood"

  • @speedformercy i knew it :-?

  • LA grande classe !

  • How the hell are we doing any of this music and love justice by ragging on people who are doing well for themselves now. Let it go man.

  • he went down to the crossroads...

  • Why satriani is in the title ??

  • @TheUshiodemon This episode featured Satriani and Stevie on the same show. And Stevie kicked Joe's ass on acoustic guitar.

  • @nellgwen48

of course he did ... Joe is a great guitar player one of the best but ... he said .. when stevie played that maked me mad ^^

  • Stevie is the best! My mom saw his last show before the helicopter crash... his music bring tears to my eyes. I feel so sad that crap like Justin Beiber is number one on you tube. Stevie has real talent that almost no one can match. I miss him every day and I never knew him, but when he plays music everyone can connect with it. The blues is the best!

  • The master and commander of the guitar!!! PLayed the shit out of everything he ever did!!

  • The Best!!!!!

  • best blues sound ever

  • he was the drug, not Dali: he was the one true & seriously high soul no one even comes close to his heights......

  • Is it the same to play on 12 string guitar like a normal guitar, because I noticed he use nearly the same fingering as he does in the 6 string guitar

  • @juanlash

    well the same no,

are the cords and notes the same tuning? Yes

what you get with a 12 string in standard tuning is

2 pairs of strings in different octaves.

well the high strings sometimes have the same octave..

but to play one required a strong hand position and some great picking,

but any guitarist can pick one up and play a chord or notes they know.

  • Look at him go!

  • M-A-D SKILLS

  • the GOD of Blues.

  • @chabon89 i was raised with SRV music but he isnt the god of blues. actually NOONE is. everyone got their own blues. If u want to listen scary blues go listen robert johnson and reverend gary davis

  • @CoolKwstas123 I know, it's all subjective. Everyone has their ear.

  • Kenny is a fine player & a nice guy! I've played with him several times, & although he & alot of other players (Including myself), have adopted the "Texas Tone", thats just what it is, "Texas Blues", which is what Stevie did! Texas Blues has been around long before Stevie, is stronger than ever today, & will continue to be around & grow for many generations to come!! But like I said, there's only one person who can play Stevie!! & his name is Stevie!! Thanx for the comment brother!! BLUES POWER!

  • holy shit mtv without shitty rappers.

  • sure, no lets see him do dueling banjos??

  • blues gets a bit boring after like 4 mins doesnt it?

  • @eduardoobregon no, if you really like the blues

  • @diegorolling86 Yeah, Jazz and Blues only gets boring to simple minded folk that have a short attention span... Some people just don't GET music period, they think it is a fad or a method by which THEY can be cool because everyone else is listening to it...

  • @xeridian totally agree! Some people can't listen the felling of the blues or jazz music, they must take the necesary time with this.

  • @xeridian Totally agree, when you listen to blues you have to listen with your heart, the first time I heard SRV he just blew me mind by the way he felt the guitar and the sould he would put in every single note

  • @xeridian jazz and blues are not the same, blues is ALWAYS the same chord progression. Anyway, hopefully one day i will GET music as much as you do.

  • @eduardoobregon I never said Jazz & Blues were the same, they are similar however and Jazz has some roots in the blues. Also, Blues is not always the SAME progression. There is the Standard, Basie/Bebop, 12-bar, 12-bar minor, 8-Bar, 16-bar blues oh and yes the Jazz-Blues progression all with quick change variations. Anyway, there is always hope for you, maybe if you go to college for musicproduction and performance for 6 years as I have you will GET it! :D

  • @xeridian well im not into degrees of any sort, i dont see the need for putting music on paper, and neither did srv as far as i know, so, but anyway, like he himself said, hopefully theres a place for both our tastes. anyway, id like to check out your music just for kicks.

  • @eduardoobregon maybe after 5:01

  • @eduardoobregon lol gtfo

  • @eduardoobregon OBVIOUS TROLL IS OBVIOUS

  • The announcer is such a freaking geek!! How dare him interrupt Stevie!!! He should have been slapped like a whore!

  • Saw Satch at a small venue in Chicago where he did an obligatory acoustic blues set...even Stu Hamm was on acoustic bass,,,,but let's face it Joe just plays too clean to be blues...SRV,,,now that's just filthy !!

  • I'm sure Joe was crapping in his pants backstage, i mean who in their right mind would want to go onstage after SRVs stellar performance

  • I'm a huge Stevie fan. Hes one of my favorite blues artists and one of my inspirations as a guitar player... but no one is better than Joe.

  • @Will0glesbee Apples & oranges buddy!! Stevie couldnt play Joe like Joe & Joe CANT play stevie like stevie!! There's only one person who can play like SRV & unfotunately he died in a helocopter crash on August 27th, 1990!!

  • @jasonjones71 untrue, everybodys pickin up SRVS style, Kenny Wayne Shepard can sound note for note like stevie. but dont get me wrong srv is still number 1 in my books.

  • Man the finger strength you need to play like that on a 12 string! It hurts my hands to watch. I remember watching this when it 1st aired and I was a huge Satch fan at the time and after this show I kinda just hung my head :( Was certain Satch would slaughter him:) This show made me a SRV fan.

  • good god, what an unreal musician

  • AND TO THINK THIS WAS MTV...

sorry ass era we live now, make us wanna drink until we die!

  • @GabrielDhalaman2 MTV? Look in the right bottom corner..isn`t that the VH1 logo? (I`m not saying i`m right...I`m just asking.. :) .have a nice day!

  • @apollo2132000 Hear what the man says at 2:50

  • @GabrielDhalaman2 drink until we play this video

  • Stevie Ray played all of that on a 12 string acoustic! WOW! that looks hard enough on a normal 6 string acoustic...

  • one reason how you know he isn't a robot is that, he plays with emotion which no robot can do

  • try to play the guitar after this

  • @tomorun wish you would re label this joe satriani is not in this video at all

  • 1st. well where is satch in this video, was labeled wrong should be changed..2nd to compare stevie to joe is crazy! stevie god rest his soul played blues, joe can play blues and anything eles he wants to!! i love them both!!!!

  • blues master

  • genio!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, I remember this episode. I felt so sad for Satriani. Because he kicks ass on electric. But Stevie Ray OWN'D him on acoustic at this show.

  • @8Strangz I saw that too,not Satrianis' finest hour..

  • 100 000 yeah

  • Fuck yeah SRV's talent is like magic or something, it's simply amazing.

  • Its good to see him bust out on the acoustic!!! I would love to sit down and have a jam session with him right now!!! Of course I would look like an ass but who cares!!!

  • oh my god i would like to play like him

  • It just doesn't get any better than Stevie Ray Vaughan !!!!!!

  • He was a magician !!!

  • @figueroam

Yes, a magician, a straw instead of a stick !

  • For all the young aspiring guitarists out there...let this performance be your motivating factor to practice as much as possible.

  • i love SRV he's one of my favourites guitar players but satriani is very good, i think that they shouldn't have to be compared because they play different styles..but anyway, what a responsabilty to satriani to play after a true guitar legend, with all the people expecting to hear some more of stevie

  • Makes me so sad that i will never be able to see him play live :(...

    What a Legend !!!!

  • man i love the blues

  • master putting the student to rest

  • Jesus Christ this is VH1?! Lol. I thought this was Jersey Shore Road Rules Cribs Best Damn Week Ever! Oh well, I guess this extremely good performance will have to suffice.

  • wheres joe satriani?

  • Thank's SRV !! ...

  • there are legendary guitarists then....... there's Stevie

  • Comment removed

  • satriani`s not even in the same league..and he knew it

  • Just noticed the number of strings too lol

  • He plays fast in this video. Death Metal nowadays plays fast. Huge difference.

  • crazy bastards!

  • What's with dissing the Satch man. I'm all for SRV but come on Joesat is awesome as he is. I'm pretty sure these two weren't competing. Musicians as big as these two wouldn't have gone this far without the respect they give to other musicians. But if you guys were talking about how freakin awesome SRV is, then fuck yeah

  • @tempuramonster Joe isn't as awesome as SRV is

  • MTV..i know there is more shit in the vault!!..Will buy the shit at any price..at least the respected families would get some long awaited funds which is what SRV would

have wanted for his loved ones. 20 years. ..Godamnnn.

  • HE HAD HIS EYES CLOSED THE WHOLE TIME.....AMAZING

  • go home and cry satriani!!!

  • why do satriani even try? he knows that he cant compete vithe the master

  • poor joe

  • as great as Satriani is he couldn't come close to Stevie on this night.

  • damn i love em both, but when its gd old texan blues, SRV is untouchable..but instrumental guitar rock, Satch is king

  • His acoustic sound is fat like his electric sound!! SRV FTW!

  • @MBenya1994 it's all in the hands.

  • @MBenya1994 probably because it's a 12 string.

  • @MBenya1994 Er...That's why they call them JUMBOS...

  • Lol I love how there's "no description available"

    How true!

  • Some pretty serious hair that host has.

  • I can't believe this was from MTV =O nowadays music sucks!!!!

  • oh, it was a time when MTV had been showing a really good music, not the today's shit.

  • The Man!

  • FUCK THIS INTRO IS SO INSANE!!

    12 STRINGS DUDE

    WTF

  • OH MY GOD 12STRING GUITAR :0

  • what year is this from

  • =guitar boogie :D

  • stevie ray ist the ONE

  • His fingers move faster than a fat kid at a buffet.

  • @zerogravity724 lol ;o)

  • Rude mood on a 12 string..... : o

    Wow

  • Hol van Mr. Satriani?

    Where is Mr Satriani?

  • el mejor del mundo de los vivos y de los no vivos-desde el mas alla--stevie ray vaughan

  • Incomparable! Love you Stevie and will til the day I die!

  • Where is Joe

    OneLove

  • The finger strength!!! Love the percussive strumming!

  • Actually I don't love Stevie...neither the sound nor the style, but i can se he's very good though...it just doesn't really appeal to me...I like other blues guitarrists better

  • @RrVveNn. The first song is Rood Mood.

  • Esse violão sofreu com a patada!!kkkkkk

  • that is the name of the firts song?????

  • Stevie Ray would have been great on one string !

  • No one compares to Stevie Ray Vaughan!

  • @Rckrgrl73 You got that right most guiatar players would never unplug and try something like this. SRV RAW TALENT

  • @Rckrgrl73

    good idea

  • Que idiotice discutir quem é melhor que quem... Porra. É não entender nada de música mesmo... Em vez de se espelhar nos caras, gringo fica falando merda... duas lendas da música, da guitarra, e esses imbecis discutindo algo tão non sense que chega a dar ânsia de vômito.

  • wouldn't it be awesome if they played together? mygosh.....

  • Joe actually has a self titled album that is unlike his other stuff that was around this time that was bluesy. he ca be soulful, but of course guys like Stevie convey it like few others

  • satriani can play really fast too i love em both but scuttle buttin' is mostly picking fast you change chords only about every 10 pick strokes...

  • who is that duetchbag sitting next to and talking to vaughn. what a duetch

  • @chambs42 That passed for cool in the late 1980's. SRV was a major departure for Unplugged up to that point. For most of the acts they featured, that guy fit right in. But for this one episode, they had two incredible musicians instead of who-cares pop acts.

  • Beautiful. He's definitely blessed. Amen.

  • look up guitar boogie by Tommy Emmanuel for those who want to hear the next level .

  • The song's called "Rude Mood" from "Texas Flood" album originally. Just FYI. Love the video, man! Truely smokin fretwork!

  • amazing...

makes clapton look like a retard...

  • absolutely badass! respect the man; the legend!!!

  • SRV~ That is where real music takes you~

  • For people interested: I uploaded 'Life Without You' unplugged from this show on my account.. check it out!!

  • Who would ever want to play after this awesome spirit?? SRV was awesome!!

  • There's too much reverb on his vocals...stupid soundman.
