Nobody deserved to die in the end. Makoto was a typical teenager who got carried away after he realized all the girls wanted him. Sekai had a crush on him, but backed down after she realized Makoto liked Kotonoha, but after Makoto had second thoughts and expressed his desire for Sekai, she went for it.. Kotonoha was not used to a relationship, she was taken aback by Makoto's advances, but after he loses interest in her, she starts to think she did something wrong. It was a tragic end all around.

Remember the first episode about the cell phone, well it foreshadowed everything but I still didn't expect it would be this tragic. Anime sucks BTW in my opinion!
