Okay, I loved this movie. I really did, and thought these guys were really cool. But if you really did read the series, they themselves specifically explain themselves to NOT exactly be werewolves. The wolf in American Werewolf in London is a really badass and scary four legged creature.

And more important, a "beastly slobbery hind legged muscular monster" is a really bad idea for a love novel for teen girls.

I'm glad they are full wolves not weird monkey-looking anthropomorphic wolves.I wish they looked a little more naturalistic though, but I think that was so viewers could still relate to the characters. this movie blew ass. let me explain the werewolves in a nutshell. They're buff dudes with hulk syndrome. but instead of turning big, green , and mean *basically something cool* they turn into bear sized dogs. the transformation itself makes it obvious the producer saw this in harry potter and thought it'd be a good idea and a good excuse to show a bunch of buff half naked underwear models to get those raging teenage hormones buying this crappy film. same excuse for the first movie minus dogs.

The movie is not the original medium, the book is. In any case, werewolves are shape-shifters and there is no set or accurate werewolf form. Descriptions tend to change. The Beast of Gevaudan which was a lupine, canine animal with no defining human characteristics was at one point thought to be a werewolf.
