  • He has such a wonderful voice, sings from his heart ..1 day he will stand alongside pavarotti and other gr8 singers.

  • Not saying that this is bad. It isn't I've been impressed by Paul Potts from the first moment I heard him sing. But I have to say that so far Ive never heard anyone sing this better than Jussi Björling.

  • @PeTrTr This isn't good compared to the great voice that is Paul Potts.Look up Faddergalan och Paul Potts " O Holy Night" at the side there, the Paul Potts Reykjavik version, the "O Holy Night Clip" which Paul sang over 4 yrs since. It amazes me that the worst of this song by Paul has the most views. Yes Bjorling is amazing.

  • The only version of this song that stunned me, was David Phelps. His version in my mind is the greatest version of this song.

On the other hand, Paul Potts has a unique sound and is getting better, and there are things he does very well and sings from the heart.

  • @TheMarigold8 First, I found the Reykjavik version and my opinion is still what it was before. Secondly, I have said this once and I will say it again, I am not dismissing him as a singer. When I made the statement "he sings because he loves to", I meant just that. In fact, if you would stop taking my comments out of context, (i.e. focusing on one part of my comment), you'll notice that my first comment was defending him as a singer and a performer.

  • paul@BrianWelchVEVO On the right hand side if Faddergalan Carola och Paul Potts O Holy Night. You say no Pavarotti etc, thenspeak of limitations in his "light" voice, you really should go down to one of his many concerts. Check out Caruso on his recent tour of Germany in Oct.2011

One of his recent Nessun Dormas in Jeon Ju

Paul Potts singt La Prima Volta Oberhausen

Pauls Potts Prague Granada. You dismiss Paul in the nicest possible way and he has a gentle yet strong voice.

  • @TheMarigold8

When ask for others to be civil, I mean in how they give their opinion of him, positive or negative. I personally believe he sings well; divine would be a slight stretch. You may believe he sings "divinely" and may say whatever you choose to about him or my comments for that matter. I'm not dismissing him as a poor singer. When I say light voice I mean he has a lighter, softer timbre. There is nothing wrong with this but you cannot expect an enormous sound.

  • A bit weak the voice...But in pitch...

  • Jesus always wants us to love each other. Not that complicated. Never really wants us to adore him per say because when we love each other it is the same as loving him.

  • His vibrato on the high note was a little too slow for my taste.

  • Doesn't even come close to Jussi Björling!

  • @MsKaaNo Try Paul Potts O Holy Night Reykjavik Iceland, better than Bjorlings. If you have come on here just to dismiss Pauls voice. To find this you would have bypassed Paul Potts O Holy Night Clip, taken at the time of audition, very beautiful. I saw Paul few years back in concert and was amazed like most at his voice. I find that on the classical sites the so called lovers of classical music critisizing others and so often rude, you would expect a bit more culture. puts you off looking in.

  • To me it's absolutely beautiful. To say otherwise surely means you don't walk with the spirit of Jesus. If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.

  • Wretched

  • @itsthemex07 "Wretched"...really? Then that must be an adjective that describes you. Go somewhere else on You Tube and criticize someone else's efforts if complaining is all you know how to do. Leave Paul alone until you learn to appreciate the finer things in life.

  • Paul´s singing abilities are just average. His voice is rather weak in comparison with really great tenors. This presentation is a waste of time.

  • @ChrisT0372 Please, have your just joined to spew that out.

Go now this day while Paul Potts is performing on his 3rd big tour of Germany with Berlin Philamonic orchestra and you will see how strong his voice is and how he compares with the pros.

Look up other versions by Paul of this.

Look up Paul Potts in Jeon Ju S.Korea Nessun Dorma ,

taken some years back with probably a mobile phone but you hear the real Paul Potts.

Wish his other versions of "O Holy Night" were easier to find.

  • I do not like his key choices. Other than that he sings very well

  • omg this is a version from the CP-day care

  • He is a brilliant singer... But still no match for Tommy Körberg.

    All Hail Tommy!

  • Paul si skvelý !!!!

  • timetolovetimetodie. Another thumbs up for your comment about the Reykjavik performance. Can we not replace it with this one for easier access. Paul is brilliant, I do wish the people being critical could hear this man live, live in more ways than one.

  • Mr Potts is doing his best and he sings it wel. So I will not vote negative, but people, be honest. Listen to Jussi (bjorling), Mario Lanza,Pavarotti and co.Rest my case.

  • @thheijmans Please do rest your case and stop going on all his videos you can find to be dismissive. When you hear Paul sings live in concert you will compare him with the ones you mentioned as being no less. It appears that Pauls best videos are not accessible at the moment and that will suit the likes of you. Do you know what as well, Paul Potts is still in the land of the living and now doing his 3rd concert tour of Germany,

  • @auntyflorrieunclesam

Dear aunty Florrie. I'm sorry if I gave you the impression that I don"t respect Mr. Potts.

I do. And why do you say that I have to stop going on all his video's I can find and stop to be dismissive?

You are wrong. I have never been dismissive. And I don't look around for his video's. I just came to hear this one and my comment is JUST for this one.

  • lol

  • hilariously how he sounds like adam sandler. taking the piss. out of singing xD

  • @Unevaluated Paul Potts has survived for the last 4 years because of his talent.Have you not heard Pauls range and voice in concert, the you should especially

Paul Potts sings in Jeon Ju S. Korea (Nessun Dorma) that is good.

I have heard the professional opera singers, they did not get there without the background, they have to be able to throw their voice, but no way are few better than Paul Potts. Also he sang better in "O Holy Night Clip" before this performance.

  • @scarletrosemarie

you can't honestly think he is the same league as proffessional opera singers, surely? if so i'm sorry but you have clearly been swept up by the live performance, you sound delusional

  • After Caruso and Thill this Potts is not done.

    Hans NL

  • my God! i have just heard an angels voice!

  • @obamasuckss Britain didn`t think so when they voted for him :) I personally adore this man.

  • @cpeigney94 well that only proves one thing that people in Britain would not know a talented singer if if bit them in their ASS!!

  • @obamasuckss Not only Britain but people form all over the world who pay to see him and even come here, to his YouTube videos to listen to him :) Buddy, the day people compares you to Bocelli and Pavarotti, then you can talk :)

  • This is pretty awful. He entertains many people and that must never be unestimated. But in terms of quality this is two divisions below the very best. I am sorry as I am Welsh and would like to be more positive. For the very best standard see Jussi Bjlorling's version. There are also many others that put Paul's version into the shade.

  • Mr. Potts is a fantastic singer but in all honesty, this version isn't the best and it isn't his best either.

  • I'm not perfectly into english accents, but is there something wrong with his spelling?

  • @scarletrosemarie: the Reykjavik version was indeed much better. I think it must be the Nordic influence and all that, well, ice.

Which makes sense. My favorite version of this carol is by a Scandanavian tenor named Jussi Bjoerling. Here is a link for it:

    /watch?v=ofKk_Etapq4

  • I'm not one to come on these sites and bash people like Paul Potts, because he has a lovely voice and can sing better than 99.9% of people. However, while this started out well it ended poorly. Honestly, there were probably 1000 better versions sung in churches around the world last Christmas Eve alone.

  • Wow, what a voice! Congratulations to Mr. Potts for his success.

  • Y'know, I'm a photographer and one of the many rules of photography is 'Only show folks your good stuff'. Same should apply here. I'm sure Potts CAN sing, but this is just poor.

  • Damn this was bad.... He can't sing. Listen to Tommy Korberg and you will know what im talking about

  • Just noticed as someone said. Paul Potts O Holy Night Reykjavik.

My favourite "O Holy Night Clip.

Also Carola and Paul Potts "O Holy Night".

  • wow his voice is kinda dead in this one, not at all what i'm used to hearing from him.

  • @hyperactive27 Yes, Paul washed out here. In concer though I heard a voice that sang the classics no less than the best. Paul has the instrument, been polished up this last few years. Paul is an excellant tenor along with many others, but Paul one of my favourites.

  • I agree with you all. This video doesn't do justice to Mr Potts. He sounds wiped out. He could do with tidying up his technique

  • There is no doubt about it that Paul Potts has great talent and a lovely voice. I would like to hear him after he has spent about six months with a good singing coach. His technique is ragged to put it mildly. I still find him fascinating. Come on someone, get him a good coach.

  • I am sure Mr Potts is a fine fellow. Being able to recognize a truly gifted voice depends on what you have you ears trained to listen to. If you are used to listening to the television and the talent shows they like to present then you have not heard a true talent trained or untrained. Mr Potts sounds great compared to some the other "talent" on television.

  • Paul has sang this beautiful, I think there are a few trained classical singers on here that because of Pauls popularity have gone to find his bad days. I would suggest you type in paul Potts Concert in Jeon Ju S. Korea Nessun Dorma. It does not have the fanfare of chorus and all that Pavarottis concerts have, and it was taken by amatuer in audience, but I do not understand how it is worse than Corelli and other well trained. Pauls voice is beautiful to my ears, heard him 3 yrs ago, amazing.

  • He isnt a good singer. Björling is a good singer, Corelli too, and Caruso of course - but Paul Potts just sounds bad. I mean come on at 2:02 he missed the pitch by at least a semitone, and about four seconds later, he just sounds thin. No volume at all.

  • @Ifatov Finally with someone who understands music. It makes me laugh when the media uses their power to promote something. You can also watch "Voices ~ Music from Final Fantasy (20. "Opera ~ Maria and Draco" from Final Fantasy VI Part 2)" on youtube search. To be called good, you have to be at that level.

  • I'm sorry but this is not good. Listen to a few real trained voices sing this. This sounds very sad in comparison. If kind of feel bad for the very accomplished musicians.

  • @ellietobe: I hear you! It's a shame so few fail to recognize great talent these days. For example, Bjorling's 'O Holy Night' is an excellent display of raw and trained talent by one of the greatest tenors to have ever existed. The rich, versatile voice must be there before the training starts. If Potts and Bocelli fans could take off their blinders and recognize Bjorling's very rare talent (as Pavarotti did), they might discover they live in a world of hyped-up mediocrity.

  • @scarletrosemarie: Potts may have sounded good in concert to you. I understand how you can imagine him sounding as good as the great tenors. However, Caruso, Bjorling, Gigli, Corelli, Wunderlich, Pavarotti, and a few others had much richer voices and would have absolutely floored you in concert.

So, you see, I'm not judging Potts by his worst performances, His thin voice is what will keep him from achieving greatness. Potts doesn't have the potential to equal Caruso, Bjorling et al.

  • I'm glad Potts won the prize across the pond. Not bad for an amateur. You'll see what I mean after listening to Bjorling and Caruso sing O Holy Night and a few other popular songs and arias.

  • This is the end of occidental culture.

  • @meldaEF the last helvetic comment

  • @fritz5114 Hey, hey, hey, don't become racist. Potts is about a quarter note below the requested tone pitch, and is kind of pressing every note out, what just sounds crappy; if he was a professional tenor, he would be recommended to change his job. He is just one of those shooting stars without any skills but with a heart-breaking life story that makes everybody cry. The American Dream, huh? By the way: Have you ever heard Björlings interpretation of this piece?

  • wow, people like this attaining fame is the reason it's so hard to find a proper vocal technic anymore. I can't wait until he decides he needs to start teaching his "technique"... oh boy...

  • Nice singing. I like Paul as a person very much. In this wonderful French carol he's of course up against more than fierce competition from the distant past (NOT THE PRESENT - Mariah Carey, et. al. ....). I'm thinking of Enrico Caruso (original French), Jussi Björling (Swedish), Georges Thill (original French), Mario Lanza (English).

But why not just listen to Paul Potts and enjoy !

  • ....a little pitchy

  • Look at the David Phelps' exhibition on the same song.

And then tell me how Paul sings.

  • Paul Potts is a remarkable singer. His version of Nissan Dorma is a masterpiece played 10:1 over any other version on ytube. The saying goes liars figure, but figures don't lie. The proof is is undeniable and the critics words are shallow with transparent envy and/or ignorance.

  • @waketheoblivious Nissan?

  • @Octavice

Ya, his Datsun Dorma was a disaster, but he nailed Nissan version. Just goes to show, Opera and the car shopping should rarely be mixed.............

  • @waketheoblivious haha :D

  • People who have seen Paul Potts in concert and seen many great performances of Paul know how good he is, very good, very very good, very very very good, so when a video of Paul is shown when he is under weather the critics, often jealous of his success find their way to do mischief.

Fans, if you would like to see this video removed and replaced with his excellant

"O Holy Night" vids as stated by others or some other great performances by Paul tucked away on YT for no one to find thumbs up

  • potts was great on reality television, but professional singer? I don't think so..

  • Comment removed

  • @acountryfaraway I agree.. this video needs to be removed ;)

  • anyone that believes this to be anything more that average , shows there lack of taste and education in music and voice production

  • @Teltcher Are you Khmer Rouge

  • @Teltcher

    I'm Ok with you.

  • @Teltcher

    I'm Ok with you.

    fabia196

  • @Teltcher Go back up the ugly pussy that gave birth to you.

  • @Kotlettbengt you fuckin dirty uneducated cunt i fuck your slut mother. oearj some opera etitquit and stop sucking paul potts fat cock. he will never be a tenor

  • @Teltcher HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Weak not terrible maybe a 4 out of a possible 10.......

  • This is a pretty poor performance, his tuning is way off on most of the high notes. Guess that's what happens when you knacker your voice from singing Nessun Dorma over and over with bad technique...

  • Great voice, and great singing! But not better voice than Tommy Körberg! To bad he only sang this one in swedish!

  • Oh Holy Crap!

    My eardrums now are bleeding

A feline yowl is prefered to this crap.

  • @gijoephillips Merry Christmas to you also. I noticed you have joined this day. so someone more regular on Pauls vids. will know who you was in a past life. I have just looked up other Holy Night versions by Paul and they are of a super singer, the one I heard Oct. 2009 Notts. If ears bleeding go to hospital. It takes lot of energy to confront someone like you so people who know his voice will put the thumbs down. Reykjavik Holy Night Clip Swedish singer duet critics stay clear of, but not here.

  • An Owl - litterally laughing out loud (LOLing as they say)

  • @timetolovetimetodie Thank you for the direction to the Reykjavik performances - so beautiful.

  • @vpo2g2 Youre comment was hidden due to too many negative thumbs down.

    So i looked at it.

I laughed so fucking hard, man!!!

I dont think he pulled it off very well either. Not that i could.

  • Doesn't do much for me I'm afraid. I really like the piece, but I've heard many more engaging and polished performances of it, often by less famous singers.

  • This guy is good for Opera, but David Phelps and Josh Groban are better.

  • Had the honour of seeing Paul preform in Dublin '10, and to meet him afterwards. He is the perfect gentleman and a fantastic singer. For someone to walk in off the street over 2 years ago to be on the world stage since then is some achievement. I love his voice

  • @Oldmannorthridge I agree with you, Paul Potts has an amazing voice.

timetolove I googled Paul Potts O Holy Night Reykavik performance, that was beautiful. Paul has got a stunning voice, heard him inthe flesh.

  • @Oldmannorthridge Yes, how much I agree with you, seems many more do, also with russzkij. Fantastic is putting it mildy. Paul looks washed out here, he was thrown in at deap end to order, where as others prepare properly.

  • I don't know what's going on here, but in this song he sounds like he has an Asian accent while singing???

  • Well he is a very nice singer and certainly better than me LOL but dont and I mean DONT listen to David Phelps sing this song or you will be permanently spoilt of listening to anyone else! I am

  • @MsCcatts Listen to Paul Potts sing O Holy Night in Iceland yesterday, it should replace this. Paul is an incredibly NICE singer, and you will be permanently spoilt also if you saw in concert how good he is.

  • Well, The Master of Opera, the fantastic singer Pavarotti gone back to haven, in the same time a star was born, Paul! We have a talented tenor again, who makes the opera classics alive! Look at that way "dislikes" people and critics! After Pavarotti is extremely hard to sing and be good as He was, but Paul is there and He is good! Just show up someone else even just close to Paul's suited to operas voice! We need to support him instead of pushing him done!

  • wow soooo good

  • Comment removed

  • @TheOpera4ever It's professional

  • Chorus girls are smoking hot.

  • @russzkij You should grow some braincells yourself. I'm not saying this is bad but is sure isn't good. With that annoying chorus on the background. Listen to jussi bjorling's version and reply.

  • @russzkij You should grow some braincells yourself. I'm not saying this is bad but is sure isn't good. With that annoying chorus on the background. Listen to jussi bjorling version and reply.

  • "Mommy, make the pain go away."

  • Not enough emotion for me. I need a little more power for this song. Still nice though

  • Paul Potts "O Holy Night Clip" beautiful.

  • I cant listen to this. Why is he celebrated for being an average singer?

  • Paul Potts is ok if you like the German language. But try to listen to Jussi Bjorlings version too. It is here on youtube.

In fact I have to "restrain myself" to not be more "sinister" in my comment.

I am quite happy if some people here that are too young to have come across Jussi Bjorling before will do just that after hearing this song.

  • correct me if I'm wrong.. this is a barritone right?

  • Go Potts! I love how he sings effortlessly.

  • blame my ear. but it sounds like he slightly off pitch on some of the notes. I'm also not a fan of the British way of over rolling the "R's" its ok in Laten and some foriegn languages, but should be subltle in English. I've sang a similar arrangement and he rushed the ending. Possibly nerves or running out of air.

  • Yall should check out "David Phelps" O holy night

  • He sings this really great but I think it´s a little bit to high, he would have been singing a bit lower, like the great Jussi Björling did in his version of this song! At times they have avoice that sounds almost the same. If you like this version so please check out Jussi Björlings version of this song. /Eric

  • @mysticmeg111 Jussi Björling was a lyric tenor by many conc. as the greatest ever.

His high C is historical and his D was perfect! But he sang O holy night without sounding as a tenor wich makes it even better!

  • Was soll man dazu sagen, absoluter Durchfallalarm.

  • what the fuck!! CARUSO HAD THE BEST VOICE AND THE BEST TECNICK FOR SINGING! ALSO MARIO LANZA AND JUSSI BJORLING! Paul is just good nothing else!

  • Comment removed

  • OMG the elementary back up choir.

  • Great voice, but a couple of fixable errors here and there which could be fixed with a couple lessons and some voice training. For example, 1:33 he switches to falsetto and then back to full voice when I know he's capable of a refined full sound at that pitch. His richness and sensitivity to dynamics is marvelous however, and I applaude his success.

  • Torture

  • Not bad for a guy who's never had a singing lesson in his life....:)

  • Aimee Elizabeth on Australias Got Talent does this so well If you like this you got to see Aimee... Just type her name to see on youtube... To see the full song Find her on facebook... Enjoy...

  • Wooow, soooo beautiful<3

  • I do realize I have an untrained ear for this type of singing, and after reading the disagreements on his singing ability, I have to say that I don't think he is that good. He doens't seem to have the control over his voice that a lot of other well known singers have. Yes, he does sing beautifully, but isn't in the same league as Caruso and others, I just don't think there is any comparison.

  • @GracieMay7 Paul Potts has n incredible voice, seen him up ther on the stage. Look up "O Holy Night Clip". the singing is very emotional. I think his voice better than Caruso, although I have not seen Caruso live on stage because he has been dead for decades. I do not understand why you feel the need to come on to say this, and why you have chosen to comment on this particular video. The pros. have bad days but not on u.tube. They cancel because established. Paul tired here

  • @thornbirds26 Yes he has a nice voice but he is straining in parts & his voice lacks a certain tone quality & he does not have the control that Caruso had. Also his annunciation is sharp at times. I also think there were many singers far more talented than Caruso. A person doesn't have to be the greatest singer to be enjoyed. Take Josh Groban, his voice is far less polished than many others but I enjoy his singing very much. You love his singing and I think that is just fine : )

  • This man has a powerfull voice. True star, lot more to come from him..

In response to which version of 'Oh Holy Night' is 'better'....Cartmans - wins every time.. Peace out............

  • @scarletrosemarie I listened to it just because you told me to. I had certainly never heard it before. I have seldom or hardly ever posted anything on Potts videos, compared to how much I have posted on others. Most people HAS NOT really listened to any other versions, if they do they admit that these are better sung. I don't have to listen, but you don't have to read. Just iggy me. Or don't read me. Or Complain to Fritz and he will ban me. What's the big deal? If you know that he is best, so..?

  • @scarletrosemarie Are you listening to Potts just because he made it from carphones selling? The thing is how he sounds. His singing is awful, if his version were the only one, you could take it, but there are better ones. As for Carola, it was a horror version, even worse than this. I repeat: Have you even LISTENED to Caruso, Thill or Bjoerling on youtube? Type: Holy Thill, Holy Caruso. Or Holy Bjoerling. They sound so much better, isn't that what counts? Even if Potts worked hard, so what?
