Here in the Philippines, Canon Customer Care is very lousy on support... when it breaks down it's better to trash it than to send it for repair... very lousy on response even if it's warranty....
@kagatos It uses special paper which is packaged with the dye sub ribbon. You get exactly the same amount of page yield per ribbon, so you shouldn't need anything beyond the Canon ribbon/paper packs.
@WishGirl198 I got mine on sale at Best Buy. Usually Amazon seems to have the best price, but Best Buy was having a sale for about $20 cheaper than Amazon.
@silx2000 Hi! Ink and paper are sold together as a set and are made to work with one another (dye sub is much different than inkjet). Each dye set prints to the exact amount of photo paper included.
i have the same canon printer for a good while now and the only problem i have with it is that it does not print many pictures per refill set but the photos that it does are of great quality just as good as the ones you get in the shop
@ernestohamlet I had constant clogging issues with my PictureMate (1 or 2 generations ago), but also with various Epson Inkjets, including the 2200. The humidity is very low where I live, so that may be a contributing factor. The Selphy is an entirely different process, and I've had zero problems with it.
@TheSnapChick Thanks for you quick answer. "Fortulately" I live in a very humid city so I think I won't have that problem. What about quality of the pictures? Prices of each picture? Time to print? (sorry for my English)
@ernestohamlet Quality is amazing - dye sub produces truly continuous tone images, much like traditional prints. Price is about 25-30 cents per pic, depending on the deal you can get for ink/paper packs. With dye-sub, you get the exact yield that the ink pack is rated for, no more or no fewer. Print time is about the same as picturemate - I haven't timed it. The no-fuss factor compared to inkjet is the big sell for me. No more endless and wasteful head-cleaning cycles.
Thanks. Cheap lab prints, like Snapfish, will always be cheaper than making prints at home. This unit is about 30 cents per page - and since it's a dye sub printer, it's a fixed cost per page. Inkjet always cost me more per print because of clogged heads.
The quality of dye sub prints is superb. The prints are truly continuous tone, rather than made of tiny dots like inkjet printers. Skin tones are smooth and the photos have a very natural look.

Sweet little printer.
I bet the ink & paper cost more than the printer?
How is the quality of the prints?
