@marina14344 Hi Marina this is Agent Nickolaos Contaxakis from Geek Squad. Each medium has it's own life expectancy. Often it is measure in MTBF "Mean Time Between Failures". This is usually an estimate of the average number of hours of usage you will be able to use a given product. Therefore the more you use it the less it's lifespan.
However you need to take into accounts something called shelf life. e.g. optical disks have a shelf life of 10 to 25 years depending on the material used.
informative stuff...i have 4 external hard disks and five 2-gig usb flash keys...i dunno their lifespan though...how long do they usually last?
