  • my favorite form!!!

  • Well i wear a karate gi and do kata which involves blocks, punches and kick and although you do get a snappy sound effect from the suit, it is nothing like this. I am not slagging off the form as i am interested in maybe trying out taekwondo which brought me look at this video. I do think the sound makes this video sound like sound effects from some crass old kung fu film!

  • whats with the silly sound effects?!

  • @redninja1able They aren't sound effects, its the sound of his uniform snapping whenever he moves, but since this is a recording of a video, the sound quality is not that great.

  • Testing for my Purple Belt on Saturday... I can't get everything after 13. :(

  • what is a poomsae??????????????????????/

  • @rexiegall Poomsae is sometimes called 'pattern' its basically the whole form movements.

  • @rexiegall a poomse is a pattern of taekwon-do techniques you perform for belt exams.

the full name is tae-geuk poomse.

  • LOL i took a test on this today... failed it cuz i mixed it up with taeguek sam jang :P

  • I found this very helpful. I bet I will do well when testing

  • 1st decree test tomorrow, thanks again

  • Gracias!!

  • those "snap" sounds are soo fake!

    but he peformed very good

  • @lol6109 They are actually not fake lol. I suggest going to a tae kwon do do-jang and checking it out for yourself, and if nobody can make those snapping sounds, then they are not doing it right ;)

  • nice form

  • yay now i got my blue belt

  • Yeah! Now I finally remember Taegeuk 4... I remember 5,6, and 7 but I always forgot the fourth one. I'm going to have an exam next week to proceed to red-black! Wish me luck!

  • This definetely is going to save my bacon for my testing for blue tomorrow, wish me luck :)

  • thank you soooo much!! I have been watching all your videos to help me at the dojang.

  • thanks..even though u need to improve. e.g. u need to block/pounch at the same time u land ur foot

  • blocking and striking at the same time as u land on the foot is kung fu not teakwondo. do u say this kata is to easy

  • oh ....

it needs a lot of work to do it in a perfect way .

  • tht's now my current poomsae. i'm like high green now

  • is it anyone her who train at Elverum tkd?

  • i am 16 and began at taekwondoo at thursday the 4th februar 2010 i can poomse 1,2 and 3 good! i trained tkd in a half year for 5-6 years ago(ca 2004-2005 or something)

ut now i began in Elverum tkd and might i begin with yellow belt because i stopped with taekwondoo with orange belt, and in wlverum, the orange belt does not exit any more in Elverum at least.

so i trained poomsaes yesterday and now i can poomsaes 1, 2 and 3! began with the 4th, but i wait untill i have to train that one!

  • 0:25

  • 0:1

  • Wow, I can't believe I remembered so much of this correctly. This was my green belt form, and I was taught it 20 years ago. Very glad to find it here on Youtube.

  • that was ur green belt form?

well the expectations today are far simplier -

    i'm yellow/green, and i just need to run IL-jang, maybe IH-jang as well^^

  • Wow...this one's a bit trickier for me to remember. It's nowhere near as patternized as the poomsae that came before it.

  • Thanks a lot for the videos! This will help to remember the poomsaes at home!

  • isnt he gonna to drag in his arm at 0:21

  • whats with the sound effects?

  • This is one of my green belt forms, along with Pyongun sa jang(or is it dan?), Palgue sa jang, and Won-Hyo. (Yeah, we need to do 4 forms ITF & WTF just for blue belt. That's Chayon-Ryu system for you. Master Monier is hardcore XD )

It's the 11th form I've learned and my favourite so far

  • this is my green belt form.

  • for spirit week on sports day

i wore my tobo with my 1st degree

red belt and my tobo said WTF on it

and this dude in my class was like

    what the fuck? xP

    im reviewing my poomsaes

    cuz i have to remember 1-6 T-T

    tkd is fun tho :D

  • Thanks dude, im testing for my first stripe for on my black belt and this helped alot!

  • Wtf? im 12 with blue belt, and to get red stripe I need to do poomse 1,2,3,4 and 5!

  • some clubs have an own 1st form before the il jang form

  • its true, my master created his own pattern for white belt and it helped us a lot to be prepared for the real patterns

  • hi...................

  • I'm 11 and have red belt with one black stripe we had to do poomse il jang jii jang sam jang and sa jang

  • My school does the form exactly like it is here. Only slower, because none of us can really do our form on our own. I'm working on that, though.

  • Hey Alysa...I agree. I am a green belt working on this form. Our TKD school is traditional Chung Do Kwan - Kukkiwon. High emphasis on traditional forms; blocking techniques, stamina. We spar, but not quite WTF style and thus will not feed into Olympic qual tournaments. But I enjoy the forms immensely!

  • my taek won do school is really original all the forms are the exact same as they were fifty years ago and i very much like it that way better

  • Well it all depends where you train. I started out at a school that was very americanized and the emphasis was on the sport aspect (i.e. olympic taekwondo). Granted, the students there always took gold at the sparring events but there I felt I needed something more. The school where I train now is very traditional. It has a direct line to the Kukkiwon and my Sabumnim teaches all ITF and WTF forms simultaneously to the students (according to belt of course).

  • The confusing thing about the training today is a direct result of the prolonged course of time that takes to constantly filter out one style to introduce another. I began training TKD Federation in the L8 80's to the L8 90's as a youngster&got my Black Belt in 1996 in TKD Union and as a returning Black Belt 2 months ago I have discovered that the importance of all stances, blocks, techniques, discipline and fitness are now lost.

  • I got my green belt about 2 months ago and learned sa jang mostly from this video until one of the black belts helped me with it. I was taught walking (short forward) stances instead of full forward stances by one black belt and all forward stances by another and in this vid I see a combination of both, so I'm really confused now. Where are the walking and forward stances?

  • My school no longer does this form, and I can't find my book written by one of the grandmasters, but I believe the last two inside block + punch combinations to the sides (not the back) are in walking stances.

The best thing would be to ask each black belt, and if one of them answers differently, inform them both so they can sort it out, because even they can get better, then.

  • its like its demonstrated here. But if your master teaches you otherwise, you might as well listen to him since he will probably be the one testing you,but its exactly like its done here, this is the correct form

  • im testing for black belt so i need to know: il jang,ee jang,sam jang,sa jang, o jang,yuke jang,cil jang,parjang, koryo

  • You're lucky =) At my school, we now only do il, yuk, and Koryo, along with some black belt forms that aren't from WTF.

It's cool, though, that those three forms come out to 99 moves total. It's interesting how it's all based on threes if you look carefully.

  • ahh.. remember the old days..

  • I just got my blue belt and will most likely learn this next. I'm looking forward to it! :)

  • thank you for posting this. i forgot my pattern and my test is tomoro :) thank you

  • hope u passed! (did u? PLS reply)

  • yess, i did pass :) thanks again

  • congatulations^^

  • @mara5090 fuck fuck fuck you

  • your gay taekwondo is cool

  • I just accomplished 7th kuup today, so I had to do sam jang.. but this one it really looks A LOT harder then sam jang and the others :O

  • Actually I find this one pretty easy. It's very short. Oh Jang is definitely more difficult. But I guess you just have to practice a lot and after a while most of them seem pretty easy. I have my exam tomorrow! I'm going for the 5th kuup (green/blue) and I need to know this one.

  • orange? there is no orange

  • Yes there is, atleast in REAL TKD

  • I have green. I need to know il jang, ee jang, sam jang and sa jang. I know oh jang as well but that doesn't mean I can just skip a kuup (geup) exam. We also need to know 15 ilbo taeryons and 15 hosinsuls, break a board and spar with someone of equal strength/ability.

  • You have to learn multiple forms at green? We just have to learn sa jang. For us, sam jang is orange belt annd il jang is for like brown belts, and I'm not sure what ee jang is.

  • im going for my black belt this year need to go back to the earlier forms if i wanna grade this is a great help thanx

  • today is my tkd test, i had 2 learn this poomse.

  • 2 weeks and i got my blue belt test :S and i don't remeber this :(

  • nice sound effects

  • I just learned this today, I need it for my blue belt test.

  • i learn alot

  • I can never do sidekicks on this pattern properly, I wish I could do them like this guy here!

  • Thanks. I needed the refresher.

Sound effect, though I understand emphasize snap, are a little distracting.

  • Pretty much my favourite poomse videos but the sound effects are a bit much, and put me off alot! unnecessary..

  • thats his uniform snapping which you should hear if u get the technique spot on

  • no. thats the sound effect edited in.

  • sounds differently each hit

  • @zacccaz100 no it isnt. thats sound effects added to show you when he is stopping and for added dramatic effect. that is definately not his doboke.

  • oh tiz help me pass my grading tkx........

  • seriously ur #8 helped alot i mean i forgot it all XD

  • cool, nice helped with training thanx XD
