Personally, I thought this part should have been written for a baritone. It would have sounded a lot better to me, but ANYWAY, I liked your rendition and I know how hard this song is to sing. Being a baritone myself, I try singing this with my voice coach and it's a stretch since all the notes are in the higher part of our range and we don't get a break, you know? I feel you. But, nonetheless, I thought it was beautiful work on such a hard piece. <3 I applaud you for tackling it!
Beautiful!!!! Im doing musical theatre and i really liked your version... the only note that i think is out of tune is the one in the 1:39 minute.... the rest is fab!!!!!!!
Perhaps i'm missing a bit of emotion in some parts ........ although maybe is the DVD...dunno..... well done though!!!
u are a great performer! u use the stage very well and ur confident with your voice! sum notes were flat...."ive never felt confused before"....was off by about a semitone....maybe more. but besides that....phenomonal...finished with me in goosebumps....and all u idiots arguing over his range. range is nothing u sing what u can confidentaly and and what u can sing well. this song suited him and he made a great choice in performing it.
Im perfforming this song live soon in the finals of a musical theatre singer of the year competition and i must say this is the most helpfull video on youtube if you want to see how the song should be perfformed. Your last note was perfectly in tune and you show much emotion, and above all you use the stage and movments so well :) a huge well done my friend :) thanks for posting this great video xx
can i add a question what do you mean your range is fragile? im a baritone with a tenor range i can usually go down toa g but i rarely go low but my range goes up to an aflat a natural on a good day and some day days a short bflat but im just wondering what you mean, not hating just yea..
Well done for having a tenor range but still being a baritone, thats very clever. What I meant is - fragile as in - I HATE people going on about my range because at the end of the day I'm a baritone. Thats all.
Wonderful performance with so much emotion. You sound fantastic. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a baritone. I know lots of people with beautiful medium voices. In fact, some of my favorite singers are mezzos and baritones. I do know what you mean about being sensitive about people commenting on your range though. Im a light lyric soprano, and I have a sister and a vocal teacher both with much louder, amazing 4 octave voices, which make my voice seem rather small.
Tonal beauty is a very subjective thing though. There are all sorts of people out there with different preferences and so many different types of voices to enjoy. No voice type is better than another, but I'm sure you know that. :)
People have been telling you you're pitchy. Yes, you are on certain notes, but I believe it's because of the way you're spending your air. You're not controlling what's coming out well. Granted, it conveys the emotion, but I think you can do it without sacrificing pitch. Focus more on that belt ringing loud and clear instead of just pushing it out with your last breath.
I thought your acting was indeed overdone, but also slightly refreshing, though.
That was a phenomenal job! Really, I'm extremely impressed! Yea, there were one or two pitchy issues, but those don't detract at all from the rest of the performance! I have never left a comment for anyone's video before, and I don't know you, but that's how impressed I was! Great job and best of luck doing whatever it is you want to do!
i saw that you told me that you accidentally deleted my comment. i hate you.
kidding..
anyways. i would like to say again how much you kick ass. i love your timbre in a totally gay way. wait. haha. anyways i love your rendition of this song. this makes me want to preform it for state literary meet. yes there might have been 1 off note but the rest kicked ass. you are really good. great job!
Very nice job! The last note isnt really false, just intonated on the bottemside of the note. It sounds better when you intonate on the high side of the note. So you are both a bit right.
You have a nice voice. You're clearly not extensively trained and you're certainly not distinguished (i.e., better than a standard of young male singers). You could have also been more emotional without waving your arms around a lot.
You have a sense of pitch that is lovely, and your clarity and diction are both stunning. All in all quite well sung. You're not bad. =)
1. Just because you're Asian doesn't give you intimate knowledge of music or vocal techniques. Also, Miss Saigon is about an Asian person, which does not make it Asian music.
Your reasons 2 and 3 are not valid. Being a good singer and a music major doesn't give you imminent authority or make you a good judge of technique. Also, your comment was not criticism, it was a block of negativity. You told him he was tonedeaf and stopped there - hardly critique.
I don't see what all the drama's about - at least you're having a go...most people never dare to touch this song. I've just done it after seeing this. I'll post it as a video response. Good luck in all you do, onwards and upwards! x
However, in your defence you are singing with a backing track & that is never easy. Your performance as Javert is much more accomplished.
One more point, mind how you use your hands on stage - throwing them in the air doesnt convey a point rather distracts the audience from you - something to seriously note when you are the only character on the stage.
"I liked my memories as they were, but now I'll leave remembering her... (we should hear the despair here!!) just her"
I never leave comments but there is something that was very uneasy about that performance...
I think that a little bit of acting school would work wonders for you - despair; thats what Chris is all about here. You don't transcend that feeling at all. You look like you are conducting yourself! You are bringing yourself off the notes way too early & that brings a sense of urgency to the piece which is not that this is about - its agony that he has to leave her; we should hear it in your voice.
Quite good, although I agree, you should've held the ends of phrases a bit longer. A few pitchy notes here and there but overall really nice, you definitely have a very pleasant tone of voice, especially in the lower range.
Wooow a music major? AND in one of the most acclaimed choirs in the country?? well then, your opinion is truly much more important than anyone elses...
perhaps now is the time to step down from your little pedistool hmm? Or maybe just remove your head from your ass.
this was sooo amazing! you're a beautiful singer, and you have a really good tone to your voice! the ending notes could have been a little longer, but this was great! you sound a lot like michael ball. so, be proud of this, it's really good!
I really enjoyed you! I would have held out the last note longer, but You were still great! Your voice is like a mix between Patrick Wilson and Michael Ball. You're gifted!
He acts really scared, he moves his hands to much, his costumes is strange considering he's supposed to be a marine in Saigon durning Vietman, he acts really mad, but I disagree with that, this song is confused, not pissed. His demener is sort of like DAMMIT! LOL and he struggles to hit high notes.
But I think he is a good singer. And just needs practice.
Hi, he is me. Costume wasnt really an option in this production as it was a concert and not a full staged production of Miss Saigon. The character is scared at this point in the musical, he is confused and scared that he's falling in love and has to leave soon. Just my personal opinion on the character. Thanks for your comment.
Hey, I'm british, not a highschooler. I'm 18, and had extensive theatre training, the music was off because it was pre-recorded but I cant see how you work that one out. Next time some constructive criticsm wouldnt go a miss. =]
Hey man that was amazing. You have an awsome voice. Do you sing professional/community theatre, cause you could easy.
Just one musical tip (I've sung this song myself, and I'm impressed). You've got a fantastic voice with good vibrato and the range and everything. Don't forget to use it to hold the long notes. Support the notes with a good breath and don't clip the phrases and this will truely amazing.
Great job. This is a very hard song to sing. You seem to have the same problem as I do on stage, just not letting go. You got "IT", you just don't know it.
Omg man, you sound truly amazing! On top of that you're humble, unlike most fantastic singers! However, on stage it's just a matter of confidence, so please, let us hear those long notes! You can do it! No doubt!
Well personally, I think you did wonderful! Your acting was great and you showed a very strong sense of emotion, and your singing was incredible, too, as always. :)
But I agree with RyanPLion - I think you should try holding out those notes for just a little bit longer. It just seemed that you cut yourself off a teeny tiny bit too early in some parts, when it would have been cooler to sustain the notes for a few more seconds.
BeeBop is right...as well as your girlfriend. you sound amazing as usual. I just wish you would hold out you notes more often...you always seem to cut yourself off...I'm beg of you...LET IT RING OUT!!!! :P (sorry i've had a lot of sugar)
But with all seriousness, you do have a great voice, and in my unprofessional opinion, you should sustain your notes a bit more
You sing well and have a really nice voice. Just don't make it a habit ending lines abruptly: do sustain the notes.
