Hi Hairy!

People who have a good old drink are usually of Christian faith.....sort of, and the worst thing that will probably happen is a punch up, but is this due to alcohol OR male/female testosterone? Then take a look at the countries that have banned alcohol, the muslim/middle east countries, they dont have punch ups, they have riots and wars, costing countless lives!

harry I live in canada, where national socialist views are rampid as far as tobbacco goes, an I believe its just the beginning. George Orwell's 1984 is not too far off the mark. An alcohol they say its at epidemic preportions in the uk an scotland or is this just another attack on the middle an lower class "I would think the latter. If anybody told me I couldn't drink I'd say have a good dental plan or burial arrangements prepayed....!

Hairy, I've been a subscriber for a long time. I live in Texas and even HERE, smoking is becoming a chore. As for beer, my family have been homebrewers since they got here from Scotland in 1725. Hence why I'm in Texas, generations of avoiding taxation on spirits. I, as well as my brothers brew our own beer. I'm currently brewing a batch that's a mix between Belhaven and Newcastle.

Damn right...and the bans on marijuana are equally foolish...drugs more potent should stay illegal...but the "gateway" drugs should be legal. Their was an article on the Times on Oct 20th 2007, which clarifies what hairy is saying, about drinking, Google How 'safe drinking experts let a bottle or two go to their heads'.

I am afraid the prohibitionists are well into gear already on the alchol front.

You beleive in freedom to choose. Fair Enough. So do I. Did you beleive in it enough to look into the government's intentions on prostitution and object to any of it publicly? A link or a place to look for to any recorded public statement you made if you please.

I like a drink, so don't brand me an anti-drinker: 64 units is approximately 1000 calories a day, and this guy is selectively agreeing with the studies that suit him.

On a separate note, I observe yet again all the fake libertarians especially from UKIP and the freedom to choose campaign, who were silent when the government posted a report saying that if it could make buying and selling sex illegal under all circumstances, even when it's done by freely consenting adults in private, they would.

I can see no reason prostitution is ilegal. As you say what happens between consenting adults is nobodies business but their own. If the government are only concerned with preventing the forced sex trade, they need only introduce legal licenced brothels.

I'm looking forward to when they bring in health warnings on pint glasses (and ultimately alcohol ration books) for our own good. Like fags, they'll never ban alcohol altogether because they love the revenue they raise from it which they can spend on more nannying and commissioning new bogus studies. These puritans are inhumane, aren't they? Not content with attacking smokers over a smell, the same people have now jumped ship and are attacking the drinkers.

Well done for pointing this out again.

God help us all if this is allowed to continue. It needs to be stopped now and reversed with choice provided for all.

Yep, they've already started and they're using the same tactics as with smokers. Fake the figures using junk science, ban advertising, then slap on health warnings then "denormalise" them... They've even started using the term "passive drinking" to account for the "effects" of drinking such as drunk driving and fighting. Don't let them get away with it. Repeal the smoking ban, and get ASH's funding repealed. And nip these puritans' new campaign in the bud!
