@1997FordProbeGT You have to understand that Ford got it wrong. The Japanese made lightweight coupe's. The Japs had small capacity engines often with VVT which allowed the revs to go upto 8,000 and they were usually very light. Ford made a tank of a coupe that weighed like a deuce and a half and stuck a Lazy 2.4 V6 under the bonnet to worsen it. You don't make sports coupe's weigh like tanks, doesn't work. Its the same as darts, you don't make darts out of lead.

There was nothing wrong with the solid sports coupe market, Ford insulted the market with the likes of the Prob/Cougar thats all.

And it didnt suffer form a huge amount of engine problems, the 1.7 Zetec engine, wich was co-developed w/yamaha is, and was, a peach. Some of the cars suffered from corrosion, as a fair bit of 90's Fords did, but nothing a simple anti-rust treatment didnt fix. Even the Finnish Pumas are holding up well, wich is incredible, considering the amount of salt they throw on our roads over here.

@1997FordProbeGT You have to understand that Ford got it wrong. The Japanese made lightweight coupe's. The Japs had small capacity engines often with VVT which allowed the revs to go upto 8,000 and they were usually very light. Ford made a tank of a coupe that weighed like a deuce and a half and stuck a Lazy 2.4 V6 under the bonnet to worsen it. You don't make sports coupe's weigh like tanks, doesn't work. Its the same as darts, you don't make darts out of lead.

@1997FordProbeGT Hate to burst your other deluded little bubble but the Germans but more so the Japanese were actually the best sellers of sports coupe's in the 1990's, it was no where near Ford, especially with the likes of the Toyota Celica, Audi Quattro, VW Sirocco, Mazda RX7/RX8, even Rover/MG did very well with the MGF and Hyundai was good with the coupe. There was nothing wrong with the solid sports coupe market, Ford insulted the market with the likes of the Prob/Cougar thats all.

I wouldn't call a Golf a german post-office interior when a Probe confuses people into thinking they are going to a funeral when they are going to a sunny beach in Barbados. The Puma was a rust bucket and suffered dreadful misfire from its duratec and zetec engines not to mention the badly casted engine heads, oh and the awful brakes.

@1ns4ne1d10t The Puma is still a better car to drive, then VW has produced in its entire history. And it didnt suffer form a huge amount of engine problems, the 1.7 Zetec engine, wich was co-developed w/yamaha is, and was, a peach. Some of the cars suffered from corrosion, as a fair bit of 90's Fords did, but nothing a simple anti-rust treatment didnt fix. Even the Finnish Pumas are holding up well, wich is incredible, considering the amount of salt they throw on our roads over here.

The Puma is useless in terms of sport, it gets beaten by Diesels and rusts to dust. The Puma was associated with no-brainers. I couldn't help laughing my head off when this Puma 1.7 tried to overtake my TDi once, I was just shredding it to pieces and it wasn't sporty enough to keep up. Lol
