The tune was a hymn WAY WAY before it became the German national anthem my friends.

A true Protestant hymn too , as it offers praise to God and not Jesus as most of the Roman Catholic hymns do.

Quite fitting that it became the tune to the German national anthem, as that was the birthplace of the Glorious Revolution and the beginning of Protestantism back in the 16th century
