What Governor Jindal does not detail in his rebutal is the fact that Louisiana's largest state-run charity hospital, LSU Health Science Center in Shreveport, LA, was handed a $37M budget cut this year. Keep in mind that it has the only level 1 trauma center in the state since Katrina hit. LA actually runs a transport system to bring LVL 1 traumas from other parts of the state here! Higher education is taking a massive hit as well, with the LSU collegiate system being cut by $29M this year.

The speech isnt a great one... but He will be the president within the next 20 years. Can almost gaurantee it. Before commenting on him, do a little research on his background and eduction. He is one of the most non-corrupt people in politics today. He turned down being VP nominee this year because he wanted to help out New Orleans more. Good person whether you agree with his politics or not.

To project that Jindal will be president within the next 20 years is being hasty. You're assuming that all things will remain as they are. I assure you, there will be a host of new personalities on the scene over the next two years who will trump Jindal, no matter how brilliant he is or appears to be.
This speech will be remembered and it was very lackluster.
He didn't go for VP because McCain had no chance of winning and he himself was to inexperienced.

Truth is, the damage has already been done. It's too late. We've already stepped off the cliff & hit the rocks below. Over the next 2-3 years we'll all be feeling the pain of the impact. It feels just like a blank check for pet projects and corrupt politicians...of both sides. It makes me sick. The only response of how to pay for it is to 'Tax the wealthier' americans. While I dont fall in that group, I hope to some day. I just wish we were cutting spending and waste, then restructuring our 'oversight' groups, that are just as much to blame as everyone. Im sick to my stomach over it.

I sympathize with your feelings, I really do. Taxing the wealthier is not going to be enough to dig the USA out of this almighty mess. We are entering a worldwide depression & the USA is now the biggest debtor nation on earth. It's wealth is an illusion. It will evaporate rapidly when the $ crashes & the foreign creditors demand hard assets in payment. I wish I could be optimistic about the USA's future but the fundamentals are a complete nightmare. I wish you good luck in the dark days ahead.

The GOP is not going with Jindal. Mitt Romney will be in the game in 2012 and likely to have an African American female on the ticket with him. The GOP's task is to shatter Obama's base which is the 97% African American support. This "97 Factor" assures 44% white and 66% of other which is a landslide victory for Obama. Thank all of you for your comments. There is a clear concensus with the comments. It is very clear that Bobby Jindal is not the Republicans' answer now or in 2012 to President Barack Obama.
Look to the Republicans to try a Mitt Romney or a dark horse young white male with someone like or similar to a Frances Rice in 2012 as their presidential ticket. Even so, it would be a landslide victory for Obama of epic proportions.

I'm not the biggest fan of the gov, but the reality is that under the current conditions it's the only entity big enough to do something. Complete lack of regulation, greed and a miserable failure of our esteemed financial institutions to do their job is what got us to this point. I also can't even believe he mentions Katrina debacle as an example of government not working well. The reason it was such a disaster is because the guy in charge, Brown, was an incompetent moron who had no idea what he was doing and cared more about his dinner reservations then all the people dying (read his emails). Brown was a product of Bush's policy to hire people based on the fact that they were his buddies rather then those who were best qualified.

Actually, disaster has ALWAYS been a matter of local and state municipalities. Only since Katrina has the demand come for Federal control of disaster relief.
And Democrats like Ray Nagan and Kathleen Blanco were charged with helping people leave the city and receive help after the hurricane. GWB wasn't responsible for the hundreds of empty school buses that could've been used to get people out. Ray Nagan was.

Emergency management is first and foremost a local concern. Look at every disaster where relief was handled locally and you'll see it is always more efficient.

What Governor Jindal does not detail in his rebutal is the fact that Louisiana's largest state-run charity hospital, LSU Health Science Center in Shreveport, LA, was handed a $37M budget cut this year. Keep in mind that it has the only level 1 trauma center in the state since Katrina hit. LA actually runs a transport system to bring LVL 1 traumas from other parts of the state here! Higher education is taking a massive hit as well, with the LSU collegiate system being cut by $29M this year.
