  • James Mason is like, "What? They gave it to the black guy?"

  • @MilwaukeeIrishJoe that really annoys me when people are judge by their race

  • One of my favorites even though I was born the year the movie came out, but Louis Gosset, Jr. was great and could out perform any of the real drill instructors I had to go through in Navy boot camp.

  • When I looked quickly at the title it said: "Louis Gossett Jr. winning Best Supporting Actor for "An Officer and a German"".

  • Galam guga gille bah :D

Louis voices the Vortigaunts in Half Life

  • Well deserved by Mr. Gossett Jr.. I love Officer & A Gentleman with its message of redemption, friendship and believing in one's own self.

  • Louis Gossett in HL2

  • why didnt lou mention his pals bruce lee and james franciscus from Longstreet in his new book?

  • Superman when he was alive and able to walk.

  • Totally deserved win.

  • Officer and a Gentlemen followed up by Jaws 3-D.

  • @Halloffamer333

    LOL, how the mighty fall.

  • A bit off-topic, but disagreeing with Susan Sarandon's views is not anything like "challenging" them. Assessing her as "a vile, leftist feminazi" is just an opinion. Anyway, 1982 was a great year for supporting actors in films. I would have hated to have to choose between the performances of Gossett, Mason, Lithgow, Durning and Preston that year, as they were all superb, but I'm glad Gossett won. Just my opinion.

  • he did a real good job as the vortigaunts in hl2

  • vortigaunt ftw

  • Great Actor in a Great Film. Period.

  • Susan Sarandon is ridiculous with her absurd and totally out-of-place feminist political remarks which expose her as totally obsessed and out of whack. It is obvious that she was already a vile leftist feminazi back then... what an irritating hag.

Next to that dunce, Christopher Reeve is just pure class, good manners, humor and charm... what a contrast!

As for Louis Gossett, Jr., he deserved that Oscar. That movie is a timeless masterpiece in great part thanks to his great performance.

  • @USA4July1776 lol. Your assessment of Susan Sarandon cracks me up. Finally someone actually CHALLENGES her views; It seems that everybody just eats her up. UGH! LOL

  • @USA4July1776 Funny...YOUR remarks make YOU seem totally obsessed and out of whack so I guess that means you have more in common with Sarandon that you realized.

  • Louis gossett should have gotten best actor ,if they could,he was the best that year with that performance.

  • "His performance was clearly second to none!"

  • The coolest well-shorn Oscar-winner of all time - LOU GOSSETT, JR! His performance in "Officer" was outsanding.

  • Louis Gosset Jr deserved it, he's a great actor and he was suberb in "An Officer and a Gentleman". About his speech it's one of the best i've ever heard, so humble, so down to earth, Lou is pure class! it's a shame he never got big or starred in another good film roles.

  • Gossett was the clear cut winner here. One of the best acting performances EVER !

He made you feel like you were there and he was in your face. His speaking and voice control throught this movie was spectacular. No slips no flaws, just perfection.

  • Nothing but Class, Class, Class....

  • I'm not gonna lie, An Officer and a Gentleman is the only movie out of those choices I've heard of.

  • He was totally not expecting that.

  • Christopher Reeve!

  • John Lithgow should have won!

  • 1:12 - he doesnt have a clue the young boy..

  • louis played an outstanding drill sgt.I bet when this movie came out a lot of people joined the marines. great grandmother died at 117? beautiful.

  • @daniellejudith He was so good in that.

  • i didn't realize that was christopher reeve. so sad what happened to him and his death

  • damn, 28 yrs later & susan sarandon still looks the same. u go gurlllllllll

  • Those are some good nominees and I imagine it was hard to pick one winner. I would have done a three way tie with Durning, Gossett, and Preston.

  • debra winger was also phenomenal in an officer and a gentleman.

  • Vortigaunt 4LIFE!

  • james mason really hoped he had a chance...look at his reaction when louis' name was called.

  • That was an Excellent performance in Officer!!!

  • After this award his career went nowhere.. too bad

  • @TheTalentedMrRipley1

Yeah I know. Hopefully he fired that agent who he thanked.

  • louis gossett ain't dead!!!! i just checked it!!

  • rip christopher reeve

  • RIP ..... LOUIS YOU WILL BE MISSED

  • You see how Chappy acted like Chris Reeve hurt his hand? LOL, Chappy woulda fucked him up. Chappy the best actor of all time pretending like Chris Reeve could hurt him...lol...rip

  • He is not DEAD!

  • Louis Gossett Jr. is still alive; he's in the early stages of prostate cancer.

  • He's still alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LMFAO thats the vortigaunts voice?!

  • Exactly, he dubbed that caracter

  • It's funny how he hands her the envelope, says "You'd better do this" and then yells the name of the winner when she opens it.

  • Louis said after he won this award, he just knew the script offers would just come pouring in, but they didn't. It's almos' 27 yrs. later and with the few blacks who've won since then, a good many of them have said the same thing. It goes to show with all that has changed over time, not much has really changed at all.

  • it worked well for Denzel Washington.

  • SHOULD of Went to James Mason in the Verdict. Powerful.

  • Then he followed it up with Jaws 3-D!

  • A very good line-up of nominees. Gossett was great, and so were Mason, Lithgow and Preston.

  • The only second male African American to win an oscar since Sidney Potier and the third since Hattie McDaniel. Third actor in fifty-five years of oscar, the next

African-American actor would be Whoopie, then Cuba Gooding, jr.

  • you totally forgot about Denzel Washington TIPTON340.

  • racist

  • I'm glad Lou Gossett Jr. won.

  • Charles Durning in Whorehouse what????

  • haha his sons face.

  • DID U NOTICE GUYS....SUSAN SARANDON is pretty flat at the front, isn't it????

  • she never seemed overly flat in the few movies i've seen her bare her boobs. so maybe it's just the dress.

  • ya slimey worms. he was brill

  • Yes he was great in this film! Nice seeing Chris Reeves young and healthy!

  • Another class act!

  • Thanks for new videos;)

  • oh, so sad to see superman...

  • I felt sorry for Sarandon and Reeve. That "drag race" joke should've been accompanied by a rim shot or something...They say that the pun is the lowest form of humor.

    Well, there you go.

  • I love you, Lou Gossett Jr.!

  • He deserved it and he is a first. There really is nothing more to say.
