  • The inspiron 3500 is worth about $30 on ebay. It's a Pentium 2 300Mhz, don't waste your time with it.

  • At the time it was Windows XP Home. Since then the hard drive died so i have it PXE booting into Geexbox a network media player linux distro.

  • You'll have to find the service manual for your laptop. It describes everything you need to do to disassemble it.

  • i've thought about doing this very thing myself but haven't been able to find any info online about primers, paints, masking etc. What did you use to mask off everything...especially like the power button and the touchpad area...and any info on the types of paints and where to but those would be great too...thanks

  • Well you just need a basic primer similar in color to what you want to paint the laptop with. We didn't have much so we just used some generic grey primer. As for the masking off we just used blue painter's tape, you can get it in wide and thin widths. For most of the laptop we painted it with black matte camo paint which i also use for repainting airsoft guns.
