waalakum asalam akhi, I see many depections of Ali, Hassan, and Hussain and it really bothers me because it is haram. I am sunni, but i like all muslims, Sunni, shia, whatever as long as they are muslims and recognized as such not like the Druze or Ahmadiya "Muslims" because they are not. SAlam akhi

They're used mainly for rememberance - to help you think about them in your recollection of them. You will never see Shi'a scholars hanging any of these pictures, though. Sistani says that they are permissable to the extent that you don't actually take them to be literal representations of their appearances. I usually stay away from it, though.

Yes Akhi, I understand. Rasul ALLah (saw) Forbid it for any reason. He fear depictions of people such as himself may someday lead some muslims to worship him as the Christians do with Isa. There are ways to remember what has occured in islamic history, without the use of pictures though. And also Akhi what do you think of the Ashura, i think it gives Muslims a bad name because no where in the scripts of Any muslims is this taught this was recently(couple centries ago) introduced

I agree with you in many ways. Ayatollah Khomeini even outlawed cutting oneself at Ashura. But we need to continue to remember what the grandson of the prohet gave to us. Husayn's martyrdom doesn't just come to mind during Ashura, but in every day life. Processions with nasheeds/pounding of the chest are distinct Ashura rituals that I love to see. I know some Shi'is get over zealous and begin cutting themselves. We love Husayn, and we need to remember him in a manner that represents us well.

Agreed, let me ask you something, why do some shia's call Salafis Kaffirs. Salafis say that we should follow Islam as it was practiced by the Salaf (early followers of Rasul Allah)

Brother, many Salafis have a tendancy of making things haram that have no business being haram. Explicitly, they imply a holier-than-thou attitude, telling everyone that they're kaffirs. Now, Salafism in itself is not something I have a problem with, but they have mislead many in the ways they interpret the prophet and his teachings. After learning about Salafis, I actually started to believe Muhammed was the same, until I began reading about him.

Also: I think mainstream Sunnism in itself is sufficient in worshipping God the right way. I think you may be aware of how Salafism got its prominence in S.Arabia. They committed mass killings in Mecca, and have put themselves in the heart of Saudi politics, which supports many things I disagree with. That being said, I don't think they are Kaffirs. Their interpretations are respected by myself, but brother, many of them in power divide more than they unite.

Yes i agree they tend to create fitna but i think those people are a low minority in the salafis. They are just Strict and Have a Interpretation that is better for the older times. Imam Ali said "raise your children for a time different then yours", so i kind of think we should interpret and Understand things differently

Agreed! I know there are a lot of Salafi misconceptions out there, and I do not want to feed into them, but I know that they are notorious for their very strict interpretation. A lot of their misconceptions come from bin Laden, though, since he identifies with the Salafi movement. People then automatically think that all Salafis are that way, when that really isn't the case.
