  • But this time on the right net!

  • @evanderlazer Ovechkin scored 46 goals in 06-07 with Dainius Zubrus as his center...The next year with Backstrom as his center Ovechkin scored 65 goals...Backstrom is one of the worlds best playmakers and he's great defensively and on the penalty kill.

  • @evanderlazer You are wrong? Backstrom makes some of he nicest cross rink passes through defensemen i've ever seen. If you use your reasoning you will have to discredit almost all great players:crosby for having malkin and lemieux on the line, the sedins for having eachother toews & kane. If you did your homework then you would know that backstrom has had problems with his shins and his shooting hand thumb has been fractured. And he had 101 pts last year in all time only 110 ppl have done that

  • So I guess Sidney Crosby sucks at passing since he had less assists then Ovi

  • @mikawar1124 Again, another laughable comment. You little retard you obviously do not watch hockey. Do you know how many people would laugh at you for saying something like that? Run off a bridge, please.

  • I'm sorry but saying a guy with almost 60 assists who scored 50 goals sucks is such a stupid statement people who are average passers average like 25 assists Ovechkin is a great passer

  • OVI a great passer.LMFAO, I guess you don't watch hockey you dumb American dipshit, this is why you celebrity obsessed fags need to stick to invading countries and your own sports.

  • @fijiian4life01 your a fucking idiot.

  • @fijiian4life01 Excuse me, but do you watch every single one of Ovi's games? He is in fact a great passer.

  • backstrom is way better then ovi..... ovi is just a puck hog bum... backstrom can score and dish it out... ovi couldnt make the simplest pass...

  • @fijiian4life01 Ovechkin was 6th in the NHL in assists this year.

  • shut your mouth you idiot its because he shoots so much. have you heard pf shot rebound you retard? this why people like you shouldn't watch hockey so fuckin clueless when it comes to hockey. ovechkin is shit he is one dimensional all he can do is take 10 shots on net a game and hope for someone to get his rebound so he can pick up the assists that is how ovechkin gets assists, now shut the fuck up

  • stats don't tell the whole story you little kid.

    Crosby,Datsyuk,backstrom> ovi

  • @fijiian4life01 Ovechkin has been voted MVP by the players for 3 years in a row...I think the players know a lot more then you do.

Go back to your mom's basement.

  • @washingtoncapsplayer NO actually I know more. While OVI was out of the line up WSH won more games, scored more goals goals and let in less. They played way better with him out of the line and won 95% of his missed games. He played with an immensely skilled line. Crosby put up 32 more point s then his line mates combined.(kunitz+guerin =77 points) If anything he should not have even been considered for the award. Henrik Sedin deserved it over OVI 100 %

  • @fijiian4life01 So you know more about hockey then the players who play the game?...You sir are a fucking idiot.

  • @washingtoncapsplayer I just proved why he didn't deserve the award, nice try though.

  • @fijiian4life01

if you think its that easy, why no one else can do it?

  • @fijiian4life01 your a dumbass, one dimensional? hahah

  • @fijiian4life01 do you know how you score a goal? you shoot you retard to many players int the nhl wont shoot when they have an opening they jus keep passing until they loses the puck. Ovechkin has what many players lacks these days and that is the "courage" to shoot.

  • @mooWglo ''courage'' LOL

  • @mooWglo ''courage to shoot'' LOL

  • This time it was the right net lol

  • so semins contract was up and they resigned him..just because your contract is up doesnt necessarily mean u have to go..im sure mcphee and everyone wil find a way to keep him on

  • i think ovechkin is depending more on bäckström than bäckström is depending on ovi. ovechkin would probably be one of the top players in NHL even without bäckström but he wouldn't be the one with most points. like he was the season of 07-08.Backström feeds the puck he don't need to be feeded. i think he will be in the capitals until he retires.

  • hope he stays in washington. he fits very well there

  • i think hes leaving after this year. I think he signed a three year contract with the caps.

  • backstrom is a very smart and skilled player......and really underrated.

  • bäckis is underrated in the shooting and deeking department because his role is mainly to feed ovie, but look at this here, quickly made, great move, sweet finish and no mistake.

    go bäckis

  • @hotdogjinjo Yeah, he is sooo quick that you don't wanna put him at your own goal...

if you know what i mean? :D

Naah just kidding. I love backstrom, he got his summerhouse next to me =D=D

  • that was skön...t

  • Haha

  • f*** you, I'm a Pens fan and even I have to admit good talent when I see it, Backstrom has huge natural talent, has good hands, always makes superb deft passes, good at the faceoff circle, has a decent shot and an even better deke (needs to shoot more though), and solid in terms of 2-way playing. He's going to be like Zetterberg one day if he polishes his game further! He's someone I'd like to see with the Pens on Malkin's line.

  • Everyone makes mistakes, just like your birth! Give the guy a break.

  • once by mistake stfu u suck lol

  • backstrom's a caps for life, ovechkin and him have a superb chemistru and will become more and ore dangerous in few years

  • hes already better than zetterberg

  • @bagoge2 Imo, he's not. :P

  • well he have 8 more points than zetterberg this season ;)

  • @bagoge2 Yes, but without ovechkin he would have much less.

  • @Enten901 When ovechkin was injured he did 2 goals and 1 assist. So yes! He can do good witout him.

  • im sorry, but WHO is going to the next round of playoffs with the help of Nicklas Backstrom? the Caps. and WHO got knocked out by a team seeded WAY lower than them? none other than your beloved devils. open your eyes to the talent the caps have, and especially the talent of Nicky. Were going all the way..

  • yeah not like the devils blew game 7 with a minute left or anything...tell parise to come to dc if he wants to really go for a cup

  • The canes suck dick it was just that when you turned on the tv to watch the game it blinded the devils and Brodeur which made them score

  • That's probably what happened considering i didn't watch the game... maybe it was your face when you got excited thinking you might win...

  • Comment removed

  • What are you talking about? Backstrom is a point per game player in his 2nd year in the NHL. He's 21 years old. The kid is going to be a 100 point player in the NHL and he's already one of the best playmaker.

Also, the Caps don't need a real star player. We already have Ovechkin, Green, Semin, Fedorov and Theodore.

  • What I mean is, he doesn't seem to want the spotlights on him, he'll get his pp-point per game and be happy. He's a good player, but if he wants to become great, he needs to do more, like, be happy when he scores, not feel ashamed of it.. And score more!

  • You're right. He probably feels ashamed of himself when he scores. And, being happy when you score instead, will - as we all know - make you a better player.

No, really! You've got this shit down!

  • If you feel comfortable scoring, and you long for the roar from the audience when you do, then yes, you become a better player. Ovechkin is a living proof of that.

I'm not saying he should try to be Ovechkin, but, I would like to see Backstrom go crazy and force in the puck sometimes. Don't take no for an answer, get it there, and act like you own the place every once in a while.

Give him a year or two, and he'll be that player, hopefully.

  • Bäckström has always been very shy (even more in Brynäs), maybe that is what you are talking about ChrisOhoy?

  • Yep.. Bäckström is too much swede about things! =P

  • That's his style. You're basically saying if he was more like Ovechkin he'd be more like Ovechkin.

But that's not his name. And running into the boards full speed after every goal isn't his style. And like tubingforever voiced through sarcasm, none of this has anything to do with becoming a better hockey player.

  • yeah however he could be much better. The Caps could have easily sent 5+ players to the all star game.

  • niklas bäckström in finland is golie and swedish (ours:P) niklas bäckström plays center but they have same name

  • The Swedish Backstrom is spelled NiCklas. The Backstrom from Finland is Niklas.

  • lol its still funny. i mean what r the odds??

  • @washingtoncapsplayer and the correct spelling of there last names is BÄckstrÖm.

  • why niklas play in finlandhockey team??

  • I wanna see him in the International Ice hockey World Championship

  • Backstrom played for Sweden in the 2008 World Championships. He'll play for Sweden in the 2010 Olympics...

  • niklas play in finland hockey team!!!! and he is best

  • NiCklas Backstrom is Swedish....

  • Skön........T

  • haha XD

  • folk som säger att nicklas är den bästa svensken är ju ute o cyklar. han är riktigt duktig men inte den bäste än

  • Anybody else speak Swedish?

  • you could try asking ratgirl, but I don't think she can understand it. Maybe it's time for Google Translator to come into play!

  • Nicklas is the best swedish hockey player or somethin

  • Bäckström owns!

He is 20,5 and he is absolutely the new Forsberg!

  • He is swedens best player i think

  • Iunno about that, and I'm a huge Caps fan. Zetterberg imo is Sweden's best player

  • Yeah Zetterberg is Sweden's best player now. But in the future it will be Backstrom.

Backstrom also said that he patterns his game after Zetterberg and he said that Zetterberg is one of his hero's.

  • Currently, I actually think that Nicklas Lidström is better than Zetterberg.. I have plenty reasons why but I am to lazy to drag them all up.

But I definately think that Bäckström can be the new Forsberg.

  • boy That person who posted this comment is STUPID! :)

  • I think they were joking, but it wasn't very funny.

  • what do people say now.. i think his gonna be the rookie of the year only becouse of the sucses in playoffs.. when nhl on the fly: final today talked about the game, they sead the most important players for the caps where ovechkin, bäckström and seminn not koslov or fedorov so..

  • look up*

  • Swedes...

  • Bäcktröm is good , but Forsberg is like the God of Hockey .

    HELL SWEDEN!

  • The new Forsberg no doubt!

  • I don't know. Forsberg was a better goal scorer, but Backstrom is a better playmaker.

  • He's only 19 years old,

in the rescent Olympics Backstrom played powerplay with lidstrom among many and he was the playmaker, he's outstanding for only being 19, he will be a better hockeyplayer then forsberg, no doubt.

  • I do think Backstrom will be better then Forsberg but Backstrom is a better playmaker, and Forsberg was a better goal scorer.

  • Perhaps u'r a retard, no doubt Backstrom is something else, a rare talent and a real good playmaker. However he was NOT in the recent Olympics... Ignorant bitches.

  • Backstrom was still a rookie in the SEL in 2006. No way a 18 year old makes the olympic roster.

Backstrom was in the 2006 world championships. He was the youngest player ever to play for Swedden in that tournament. Even younger then Forsberg.

  • Yeah i know that, i live in sweden, actually i'm from the same town as Bäckström, for that manner, i used to play in the youth teams of Brynäs where he played.

  • Ok. How is the media coverage of him over there? People always compare him to Forsberg, is he living up to the hype in Sweden?

Could you tell Backstrom to train extra hard this off-season? It would help him a lot.

  • Coverage here at home is good, people are proud of him and he is every kids favourite.

He works really hard during summers actually, to get faster mainly, he's got a good trainer called Anders Bergström that helps him to gain speed, media even cover his personal training in summers sometimes.

  • That's great to here. Backstrom's kinda of a quiet guy here in North America. Does he talk with the media more in Sweden?

I know he works hard, but he should work even harder. He looks like he should gain some muscle wheight.

I think I've heard the name Bergstrom somewhere. Is there anybody in the NHL draft, from Sweden this yeawr, named Bergstrom?

  • No he's as quiet in Sweden when it comes to media, a lot more extrovert in person tho.

No Bergström in the draft, the trainer he has used to be a olympic weight lifter.

Swedes to look out for in this years draft is Goalie Jacob Markström. Also from my hometown, I used to play juniors with him, down to earth guy. He is no.1 Goalie in SEL Club Brynäs, born in 1990, he's at the moment keeping Brynäs ass in the SEL. And HV71 winger Mattias Tedenby, also 90. Both first rounders.

  • I've heard of Mattias Tedenby before. He's a good player. Tedenby is the #3 ranked European player going into the draft. I've never heard of Markstrom. I'll have to do some research.

What about Anton Gustafsson? Anton Gustafsson's dad Bengt Gustafsson played for the Caps in the 1980's. How good is Anton Gustafsson?

    Thanks for answering my questions.

  • Anton Gustafsson is pure talent, real good and would've been in the WC U-18 Roster if it wasn't for his injury. A shame since he's such a good young player. But there are other talented players aswell. Players too young to go in this years draft. Such as Victor Hedman (90) and Anton Lander + Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson (both '91) Hedman had a firm spot in the d-pairs of Modos SEL teams.

Look up Jacob Markström. The kid is amazing. a Percentage over 91 in the SEL-Qualification Series GAA of 2.22

  • Yeah, Gustafsson is out with a back injury, I think.

Hedman has a chance at being one of the best defenceman to ever play hockey. What he is doing at 16 years old is unbelievable.

Did Backstrom ever play in the SEL playoffs before?

  • Yeah Bäckström did play in the playoffs once, he led the way in to a 7 game quarter final series against HV71. He was damn good there. Don't have a record of pts but still. And make sure to lock up Jacob Markström, he's been insane. Shutting out Leksand and Västerås in two consecutive games this week to take Brynäs back in to the SEL, finishing the qual-series with 93,57% and 1.67 GAA. He's a firstrounder, and if not picked in the first round i'll eat a black-suit with my grannys silver ware....

  • Backstrom looked Ok in his first NHL playoff game.

I looked Markstrom up, and his numbers are great, and people think he'll be a 1st round pick, if he does good in the U-18 tournament this year. That tournament is going to mean a lot for him.

  • Sweden started up with an easy win against Belarus.

  • That's good to know. Is there a website that I can look at for stats of the tournament?

  • Markstrom is nothing short of awesome really.

He went from third to first goalie late in the season, Had to carry a team that just forgot how to play the game. And then to step in during the SEL-Qualification Series for one of the oldest teams in Sweden, man takes guts. Being kicked down from the SEL could compare to an NHL team being sent down to the AHL (Well kinda).. Buttload of cash could be lost, Heads would roll! I hope Caps pick Markstrom up, any other team would just be a waste. ;)

  • I doubt the Caps draft Markstrom. The Caps already have 2 great goalie prospect with Varlamov, and Neiurth.

  • Couldn't have said it better myself. All though, he was actually 4th Goalie! At the beginning of the season. His goal for this season was to keep the first spot for the juniors, he ended up keeping the organisations ass in the highest league. And all he ever said to media about the pressure was "Well... it's just fun playing"

  • How did Markstrom look in the U-18 tournament.

  • I hear reports that he looked alright, but he apparently was at the top of his game in the qual-series earlier. Swedens best player is said to have been Jakob Silfverberg (pronounced Silver-berg) actually another childhood teammate. Plays for Brynäs Juniors, haven't appeared in any senior games yet tho, have a feeling he will be a big player next season.

  • The new draft rankings came out and Markstrom is ranked 1st for European goalies.

Gustafsson is the 5th ranked European.

    Mattias Tedenby is ranked 2nd.

  • yeah, saw that ranking, doesn't say much tho.

  • He's gonna be a VERY VERY good player in a couple of years, that's for sure.

  • Yes he is. Him and Ovechkin are already developing great chemisty.

  • I deleted all the comments about Backstrom scoring in his own goal.

  • ckyisyourfuture is right. Everybody does make mistakes, especially Backstrom who is only a rookie. Why look at Bryan McCabe. Even after he scored that own goal against the Sabres, he's still a great player that even some Leaf fans still are happy to have (other Leaf fans tend to blame McCabe for his sloppy play and tendency to cough up the puck but they don't realize he's not the reason why the Leafs aren't so good this year).

  • Everybody makes mistakes. Backstrom is a candidate for rookie of the year right now.

  • Isles? Weren't they playing the devils that game?

  • Yeah, they were playing the Devils. I don't know why I put ilanders.

  • One of the reasons why Backstrom was only one of eight rookies to play in the young stars game this year =D
