@demo2382 It is actually not "stunning" the cow it is killing it. It has a pnuematic retracting bolt about 3/4 inch by 2 inch of length. The bolt leaves the "pistol" with about 500lbs of force and at a depth of around 2 inches to break the skull and puncture the brain.
Penetrating allows for cross contamination between damaged brain matter and the blood stream, thats how contamination can happen from diseases like mad cow. It seems to me the better way to go is with a non penetrating model, that way you still have the stun but with no or only little damage to the brain. (I wanted to look into it because I think the cow should be able to enjoy its DMT and with a damaged brain that may not be possible). This model needs to go out of style...

So let me get this straight, they feel no pain at all after the gun goes through their head? They die instantly? Wheres the proof? Is there a full video on this? I am very much interested in this. @EverWonder29 I have been studying slaughter techniques at university and there has been a lot of research done into slaughter techniques. Shooting the bolt at the cattle in the middle of the forehead as shown in this video causes immediate concussion (lack of consciousness). Because the bolt also penetrates the brain it causes physical damage and prevents the animal from gaining consciousness again. Once stunned like this, the animal is moved along to the next station, where it is slaughtered.
After a few hours of doing this I'd probably plunk my own forehead with the Jarvis Model USSS-1. I wonder if that guy has nightmares about this. I enjoy a good burger, but this job would be pretty shitty.

So let me get this straight, they feel no pain at all after the gun goes through their head? They die instantly? Wheres the proof? Is there a full video on this? I am very much interested in this. How do you know they feel no pain? Even people get shot in the head and don't die. Many cases where people commit suicide, and survive. This video doesn't show the cattle after its been shot.

@EverWonder29 I have been studying slaughter techniques at university and there has been a lot of research done into slaughter techniques. Shooting the bolt at the cattle in the middle of the forehead as shown in this video causes immediate concussion (lack of consciousness). Because the bolt also penetrates the brain it causes physical damage and prevents the animal from gaining consciousness again. Once stunned like this, the animal is moved along to the next station, where it is slaughtered.

@iFeRgZy Best part about being a member of the human race is that no animal will be able to return the treatment we give them. People can hypothesize all they want, but it'll never happen. That said, this thing looks awesomely efficient.

i love to eat meat. especially beef. so whining about how this is still inhumane would be radical. but i still think if we put our minds to it, we could find a cheap, effective way to "put the animals to sleep" before we punch holes in their skulls. for some people, it's just the fact that the animals are being killed on a massive scale in such a way, but for me, it's more the fact that some of these cows surely live on for some time after this, and are in pain or distress.

Also, every other animal that eats animals does it the natural way. I think when a person can chase down a cow and tear it apart with its teeth like any other carnivore does. Then it will be ok to eat animals.

@jozie1992 It is humane. The cattle are instantly incapacitated/unconscious- it happens so fast that they can't feel it. Not to mention, did you see how calm all of them were right before they were stunned? That's about as humane as it gets.

@romiesgirl13 You know what that is just sick have you ever seen one of these used on a horse?? it is far from humane because a cow are dumb and they just stand there and let it happen to them. Horses on the other hand will move their head and that makes the gun miss its mark and they are often shot more than once and then they are often skinned while they are still alive and they do feel it. the rod that is sapose to be shoved through the brain stem after being shot never happneds.

@jozie1992 Ok well I have horses and that's a separate issue. ^^This is about cattle and a multibillion dollar beef industry. The cattle HAVE to die for this business. There's no way around it. So they're doing the best they can considering they have to feed billions of people. And I think it's a pretty damn good job, especially when you compare it to how barbaric it used to be. They could just cut their throats and bleed them out WITHOUT the stunning... is that what you want?

I grew up with horses, dogs, cats, birds, snakes, even tarantulas- I mean I'm the girl in school that would save the bug from being killed and let it outside. But I understand that this has to be done. So you're damn right I'm gonna be advocating humane slaughtering.

It just FEELS wrong to some humans because we're the intelligent species that SHOULD do better. I think with our intelligence we should at least treat them with respect, just like all living things. Unlike all other animals, we actually care about what we kill/eat lol. Other animals just eat without being apologetic about it!
I love animals and I also find them tasty.

As a farmers daughter it was a part of my life. when we butchered a steer we shot it with a gun in the head where it died instantly not stun it. oh not all butdhering of cattle is "humane" search kocher butchering of cattle.

The principle of murdering these animals is greatly being missed. The majority of Jews during the Holocaust died a quick and painless death in the gas chambers, they even believed that there were going in mass showers. Is there a humane or non-humane way of killing a human? Maybe we should tell murderers that before they kill a human, they should always use a gun vs a knife to minimize pain to a human, does that make sense to you?

This is done to cattle, but its been proven that, when done to Horses, its different, very different. Horses regaine consciousness, after 1st shot, and must be shot again.And again. Its so inhumain, and cruel. Captive bolts, 6 inch puntilla knives, 22 calibres are used on Horses, which are different from Cows, and its just horrible to acknowledge and see. Go look it up on Youtube, you,ll see. Its not right at-all. Have a little consideration, people & gouverments.
