PCSFLA, is that really the argument you are trying to put in everybody's mind? No, they are not trying to get illegal votes. He is showing he can speak the language 12% of the US population speaks @home. Do your census research. That's 12% (and rising) of US citizens that speak Spanish @home. Gov. Kaine didn't learn Spanish just to make Spanish speaking people like him. Yes, it is a political tool (and a strong one), but it also shows a bit of respect to those who prefer another language.

Both parties have "pandered" to illegals in different ways. The Republicans do it to continue an unlimited supply of cheap labor to keep corporate donors happy. Democrats do it because they sell entitlement programs. Thanks to "sanctuary city" policies, illegals can enjoy those entitlement programs. I find it to be contradictory that Democrats support such policies when it obviously hurts the American poor. But they see it as future constituents at the expense of the poor (Machiavellian?).

Language exceptions for Citizenship:

1. If you have been residing in the US prior to a lawful admission for 15+ yrs & are >55 yrs;

2. If you have been residing in the US prior to a lawful admission for 20+ yrs & are >50 yrs;

3. If you have a medically determinable physical or mental impairment that affects the applicant's ability to learn English.

Other than those exceptions, who are the Democrats appealing to? They wouldn't be appealing to non-citizens to cast illegal votes would they?

FYI, he may have also studied the language in University, etc., but the ease with the language is from the year in Honduras. I doubt he'd have trouble with a speech in Spanish, not know a town hall. The guy is scary brilliant so while he may have other issues for people to attack, i wouldn't make his proficiency with Spanish one of them...and he's Catholic, recall he used to sing in a small poor black church chior, Saint Elizabeth's in Richmond. I knew Tim Kaine when he was on the volunteer board of a non profit helping the homeless,. The Spanish is result of him being disillusioned at the end of his first year at Harvard law, so he tapped into the Jesuit network went to Honduras for a year and taught welding to poor kids (his dad was a welder in Kansas). If Obama picks him then this will truly be a revolutionary ticket. And besides he plays a mean blues harmonica, like a guy how can hold his own in a blues bar. Somebody have video?!

I know missionaries today that do work in South America. Their Spanish goes from very bad to very good. I give them all an "E" for effort. I need to hear a full speech in Spanish to judge. I was born, raised, and educated in Mexico, so I am totally fluent in Spanish. Besides, I am naturally skeptical of politicians, and basically do not trust the great majority of them (Dempocrats or Republcans)
