As far as gringo politicians go, Jeb bush speaks 1000% percent better than this guy. This guys Spanish is terrible in my opinion. Jeb sounds exactly like a Mexican though he'll never get credit for it because he is a Republican.
Tim Kaine thanked the troops in Nov 2008 by not counting thier absentee ballots. He granted voting rights to 1000s of prisoners in the Nov 2008 election.
results now have found that as many as 90,000 illegal aliens voted for obam in tuedays'election in virginia while us service men's votes were thrown out
yeah!!! that is the way to do it! you should make more speeches in spanish! that way ALL of my ILLEGAL cousins, brothers, neighbours and ex cons amigos can go register to vote DEMOCRAT! That way, the welfare paychecks could be bigger, the medical care still the same regardless of whose pockets the funds are coming from. Everybody knows the fraud is done by democrats, everybody knows how many illegals vote democrat just to stay the parasites they are. Abama es un fraude, democratas son un fraude
I, too, was linked via reference to Kaine's "proficient" Spanish. His Spanish seems okay but I wouldn't call it proficient. Though he gets points for working with folks in Honduras when he did -- that would involve serious courage and serious perspective. Impressive. And he probably knows what John Negroponte is really about!
The link from an article in Politico brought me to this posting of Kaine speaking proficient Spanish. His Spanish is okay; it's a notch above George Bush's which isn't very good.
PCSFLA, is that really the argument you are trying to put in everybody's mind? No, they are not trying to get illegal votes. He is showing he can speak the language 12% of the US population speaks @home. Do your census research. That's 12% (and rising) of US citizens that speak Spanish @home. Gov. Kaine didn't learn Spanish just to make Spanish speaking people like him. Yes, it is a political tool (and a strong one), but it also shows a bit of respect to those who prefer another language.
It's funny that you would completely misread my comments to spit out more semi-off-topic points. I never once made a statement regarding American's who cannot speak English or assimilation in general. My entire comment was a response to your earlier comment that democrats were trying to appeal to illegal immigrants just because he said a few statements in Spanish. Pacopolaco added to my response. (NEXT)
"Dual-language" and "political correctness" were not part of this discussion. Why you bring them up as if I alluded to them? I do not know. I only meant to point out that there are millions or LEGAL Americans that speak English, but prefer another language at home. If you are going to reply, explain why you wrote a comment insinuating democrats were pandering to illegals.
Both parties have "pandered" to illegals in different ways. The Republicans do it to continue an unlimited supply of cheap labor to keep corporate donors happy. Democrats do it because they sell entitlement programs. Thanks to "sanctuary city" policies, illegals can enjoy those entitlement programs. I find it to be contradictory that Democrats support such policies when it obviously hurts the American poor. But they see it as future constituents at the expense of the poor (Machiavellian?).
The sad part of this whole Hispandering thing is you have to be a naturalized U.S. citizen to legally vote and understanding, speaking, reading and writing English is required for citizenship except...
FYI, he may have also studied the language in University, etc., but the ease with the language is from the year in Honduras. I doubt he'd have trouble with a speech in Spanish, not know a town hall. The guy is scary brilliant so while he may have other issues for people to attack, i wouldn't make his proficiency with Spanish one of them...and he's Catholic, recall he used to sing in a small poor black church chior, Saint Elizabeth's in Richmond. So the guy is very comfortable in other enviro's
I knew Tim Kaine when he was on the volunteer board of a non profit helping the homeless,. The Spanish is result of him being disillusioned at the end of his first year at Harvard law, so he tapped into the Jesuit network went to Honduras for a year and taught welding to poor kids (his dad was a welder in Kansas). If Obama picks him then this will truly be a revolutionary ticket. And besides he plays a mean blues harmonica, like a guy how can hold his own in a blues bar. Somebody have video?!
Give me a break! Saying a phrase or short sentence in Spanish does not constitute being proficient in the language. Throwing some Spanish words out there with a heavy anglo accent is an insult to people that speak the language fluently! Politicians, DUH!!!!!!!!
I know missionaries today that do work in South America. Their Spanish goes from very bad to very good. I give them all an "E" for effort. I need to hear a full speech in Spanish to judge. I was born, raised, and educated in Mexico, so I am totally fluent in Spanish. Besides, I am naturally skeptical of politicians, and basically do not trust the great majority of them (Dempocrats or Republcans)
You let your puerile mind jump to conclusions. I said I was born in Mexico. I did not say I was not a US citizen. FYI, I am a naturalized citizen, live in Texas, served in the US Army during Vietnam, and always vote. BTW, it's not "an Mexican". That is poor grammar. It is "a Mexican" (a before a consonant, and an before a vowel). Learn the language! Please do not respond to me, and spare me your vitriol. I am really not interested in discusing ANY subject matter with people of your intellect.
These American citizens that go outside their comfort zone to another culture, for whatever reason, should be given props. I was raised in Puerto Rico [(4th generation American/4 veterans(2 combat)]and I still have an accent!
the day any American can speak/write/understand ANY other language other than their native tongue to any extent THEN and only then will they have the right to judge or laugh/mock at anybody:)
Hmmm, let's see. A slick, smooth talking politician can say "Sí seh pue-deh" and I am supposed to be in awe? Thanks! I think I'll vote for Hussein, and then fall down on my knees and praise him. Yeah, right! FYI, I'm a US citizen and can speak/write/understand Spanish, English, Portuguese, Italian, and some French, and all with a Spanish accent. I wasn't criticizing his accent. I was referring to how he massacres the Spanish language. I think I have the right to judge or laugh/mock anybody.
Another internet imbecile! You stuck your nose in someone else's conversation. That's impolite. Crawl back in your hole moron. You are showing your age. Your snot is showing!
Someone else's conversation? This is an online forum, accessible to millions of people. I said "douchebag," which, you are correct, is the vocabulary of my demographic.
I stand by my comment, and you sound like someone who is spewing negativity just because you can one-up him with your Spanish experience. The man is reaching out to a growing population, and you're just trying to play the "I was there first game."
key spanish phrases does not mean this person is speaking spanish proficiently. give your entire speech in spanish there buddy and maybe you can reach out to more hispanics.
Look into Kaine's wikipedia file. He was a Catholic Missionary who can speak fluent spanish. These people he is addressing is not the a Hispanic conference. These people regularly don't speak Spanish so I would not be useful if he spoke complete spanish to them.
Obama will bring back a government of the people, by the people, and FOR the people. He will bring honesty and inegrity back to the white house. But he needs our support to do so!! one wish to all americans.

The Clintons think they know the Latinos, but tonight you saw a man who really knows the latinos, and how to get the vote for Obama,
Congressman Tim Kaine! Hopefully Texas will follow, my home state. Proud to be a latino born in the stae of Nebraska. Glad we don't live in a state (MA) that forces us to purchase insurance we can't afford and then punish us further by fining us if we don't obtain health insurance. This is supossed to be a free country with free choice! Now VA resident.
MA makes you purchase health insurance that you can afford, rather than having you go out and buy a flat screen TV, the lastest cell phone, and some new threads for the club... THEN, when you do get sick - showing up at the emergency room and making EVERYONE ELSE pay for you.
Although.. if adults want to sign a waiver and agree to receive no medical treatment unless they can pay cash... I'm all for it.
@atlvachick Now what do you think about the post that you made two years ago? You said that you don't want to be forced to purchase insurance. But Obama is doing the same thing :)

Instead of suggesting that I do "census research" you should research the profound problems with dual-language societies. Quebec is the poster child.
Not to mention the millions of dollars spent to print U.S. government forms in multiple languages.
Political correctness has created a chasm that will ultimately hurt ethnic relations by diminishing the importance of assimilation.
Is it your position that assimilation is passe' or jingoistic?
If so, you likely vote Democrat.

Language exceptions for Citizenship:
1. If you have been residing in the US prior to a lawful admission for 15+ yrs & are >55 yrs;
2. If you have been residing in the US prior to a lawful admission for 20+ yrs & are >50 yrs;
3. If you have a medically determinable physical or mental impairment that affects the applicant's ability to learn English.
Other than those exceptions, who are the Democrats appealing to? They wouldn't be appealing to non-citizens to cast illegal votes would they?

Please research the men and women that Obama has tapped to be his advisors. Read about them because they will be forming his foreign policy.
