It isn't the gory scenes that make Higurashi scary. It's the unnerving atmosphere and crazy plot twists. Those combined with the bloody scenes make it an extremely unnerving anime. Trust me. It's definitely scarier than it seems.

This show....is by far my favourite anime. Yes, it is gory. It makes you cringe and squirm and at some parts it is terrifying. But it's also addicting and fantastic as far as story, characters, and writing go. Also, definitely watch the second season. Not near as gory and it ties up all the loose ends. One of the few stories that actually surprised me with the ending.

Trust me everyone, Higurashi (the anime and the manga, though i personally like the anime a little bit more) is a work of disturbing, horrific, pyschotic, and yet lovable and humorous art! It has a great plot (which only rly becomes clear in Kai/Rei), great characters/char. development, and everything from "OMOCHIKAERI!" to "USODA!" to "SATOSHISATOSHISATOSHISATOSHIS­ATOSHI ETC"

Go and watch! (but not in a room with younger children!)
