  • Scooby please accept my friend invite, i need to ask you a few questions please, its urgent

  • Great videos, thanks:-)

  • OH there's hans, he in the background!

  • thanks the thips, all video are very good. greetings from Hungary

  • Real great videos, thanks! Greetings from Germany

  • BTW, if you haven't seen it yet: Scooby's site is now available in German.

  • scooby, you are doing a great service here for all of us that can't afford a trainer. your website rocks as well. thanks so much for taking your time to teach everything you teach. further, your teaching style and educative approach is awesome. thank you thank you so much.

  • Hey Scoob! I've been watching your videos (and going to your website) for a really long time now, you're amazing! I have a question, though.

I hear a lot of people saying that you shouldn't do pulling and pushing exercises in the same workout. Why exactly is that? I see in one of your videos you're doing triceps and biceps, which include both pushing and pulling motions, and yet you're ripped!

I'd really appreciate it if you could give me your input. :)

    Keep making videos man!

  • There are as many workout methods as stars in the universe, bodybuilding is as much an art as a science. If you hear anyone say that their way is the "only right way" to workout, run the other direction. Different things work for different people.

  • scooby your teaching its very good, you seem to love the bodybuilding (amateur) like i do..

i doesnt know about that hiperextensions on abs, it really help me thanks

    sorry for the bad english

    im argentinian

  • Hey scooby, in your push ups for beginners video you say that its good to be sore the next day. but no matter how hard i work out im never sore the next day, ill work out untill my muscles just get weak nd i cant work em out anymore but i never get sore. any tips?

  • If you are getting a bit stonger every month, dont worry about getting sore! The ultimate measure of success is strength and mass follows strength.

  • great advice as always, scooby, keep up the good work :)

  • Are those Gnomes on the shelf behind you going to end up dead like all the others that you SMASH, haha. ^_^ Great video as always pal, thanks alot for dedicating your own personal time to helping people, thats very good of you. Thank you, from THAILAND

  • Take a chest workout, I bet that Bruce Lee NEVER did bench press. He would probably have done clapping pushups, falling pushups, or something like that. His training was probably focused at getting that explosive punch, not at being able to bench 405lbs :)

  • Your diet can actually effect how sore you get, and for how long, not just your workouts. Plenty of carbohydrates and proteins (obviously, not too much!) can actually reduce the amount of time your muscles are sore, as they help rebuild the torn fibres. You'll also find that doing mass reps with smaller weight will still result in strength building, but you not being as sore as say someone who is doing 2-3 reps of max weight.

  • My worst problem in weightlifting is especially when im doing dumbell or barbell presses....I get the weights up in the air (hardest part), then as soon as i start pressing i get a nose itch!!

    Argh!!!

  • Sounds like you need to punish that reaction. Try scratching your nose before lifting. If you have to stop any set to scratch, your punishment is (choose the most unpleasant) a) no fast food for two weeks b) eat 1 pound of veggies a day for 2 weeks c) run for 5miles each day for 2 weeks

  • Yo scoobs. You say you do 20mins on abs. Is that it then rest for 5-7 days?

  • personally I do 20min about 3x/week

  • hey scooby i love your videos! i got a question, what are various ways to work your glutes, other than lunges and squats?

  • Take a chest workout, I bet that Bruce Lee NEVER did bench press. He would probably have done clapping pushups, falling pushups, or something like that. His training was probably focused at getting that explosive punch, not at being able to bench 405lbs :)

  • Looking good here, Scooby. Another great vid - thanks.

Hans was pointing and laughing when you did your head waggling at 1:28 by the way. Don't let him get away with it.

  • He gets pretty sassy in the next video too, perhaps its time to put him in his place again. The hammer didnt seem to do the trick ...

  • Take a chest workout, I bet that Bruce Lee NEVER did bench press. He would probably have done clapping pushups, falling pushups, or something like that. His training was probably focused at getting that explosive punch, not at being able to bench 405lbs :)

  • scooby, i just wanna say you're a beast!

  • Did he paint that room?

  • yeh i believe the blue is new hehe

  • Scooby OWNS NOOBSS!!

  • Hey Scooby! I'm a huge fan. I finally got a account and am able to comment. Anyways, I have a question. I am having trouble with my lats. I need a vicious work out for them. Any thing at all just post on my site!

  • Check out my video "Killer Home Back (lats) Workout"

  • Take a chest workout, I bet that Bruce Lee NEVER did bench press. He would probably have done clapping pushups, falling pushups, or something like that. His training was probably focused at getting that explosive punch, not at being able to bench 405lbs :)

  • scooby... i've been thinking about whether i need to change my routine. My muscles aren't growing as fast as they were and i'm starting to wonder what exactly i should change. Any help?

  • Change everything, what exercises you are doing, how you are doing them. This is what keeps your muscles on their toes adapting, growing, and getting stronger.

  • Take a chest workout, I bet that Bruce Lee NEVER did bench press. He would probably have done clapping pushups, falling pushups, or something like that. His training was probably focused at getting that explosive punch, not at being able to bench 405lbs :)

  • another great vid scooby. thanks! you rule!

  • where was hans? :(

  • Hans is on the shelf in the background, contemplating the meaning of life.

  • I have a question for crunches in general:

I've only just started working out properly, and when I come to do my abs, no matter what I do, my left side feels it and my right side barely feels anything. My abs aren't big yet but my left side is definitely a lot bigger, so... Halp?

  • Not sure what to tell you. Ask a personal trainer to watch you and see if they can see any problems.

  • hey scoob just a question:

what happened to your diy cables vid?

  • The DIY cables is there, its my previous video.

  • Thanks for the compliment, but no I dont use steroids. I've been lifting for 25 years. Check out my website and you will see I'm all about health and fitness, not cosmetics.

  • Thanks for the compliment, but no I dont use steroids. I've been lifting for 25 years. Check out my website and you will see I'm all about health and fitness, not cosmetics.

  • hello scooby. i'd like to eat your white ass. thank you.

  • You are a god amongst men. I love to see new videos from you, you are a great fitness inspiration for us all to eat better and exercise more.

  • You didn't damage your floor did ya Scooby??? When the weights fell off the cable...

  • You can always put a pillow under the weights!

  • The hardwood floor in my room is 60 years old and desperately needs refinishing anyway :)

  • Hello scooby, i am 6 11 and 295. i have 23 percent body fat and i need to be 12 perctant body fat. i dont have any "fat" but i have have a fading like abs with fat on the obliques, would this workout, help me show some seriose definition? thanks!

  • hey Ma094644, ab workouts strengthen and cause your abs to grow, But if you have 23% body fat, you just need to drop your BF% in order to define your abs, once your thin enough, begin doing these exercises

  • This workout wont help you at all. If you want to see some definition in your abs, you need to lower your bodyfat thru cardio and decreased caloric intake.

  • oh, okay, thanks alot scooby. oh and theBEROUGE!:]

  • What does lmho mean?

  • in my humble opinion

  • In my honest opinion

  • hey scooby awesome work but PLEASE PLEASE answer this question...one of ur video sed do only 10% of the raise on a leg extension...so is doing squats bad??? cause u go all the way down wen u do a squat??

    PLASE ASNWER =D

  • That 10 degree movement recommendation only applied to the leg extension exercise.

  • another great video, thanks Scooby!

  • hey scooby, all u need is a couple of videos to train the lower part of the back muscles and for the shoulders and ur pretty much done with all the body XD

  • Dozens of videos left to do, it will keep me busy for at least the next year at my one-per-week rate.

  • How many days should I do cardio a week (I do 30 to 60 minutes a day 6 days a week)?

Is intraval training better than just jogging at a continuous pace?

    Thank you

  • IMHO, cardio should be done every day, 20-60min per day.

    Interval training? Define "better".

  • thank you so much for uploading your videos. I think you are awesome! I wish I had you as a mentor.

  • Keep up the video's ! im taking in all of your advice and i feel great about myself! i hope you do to!

  • Okay, your videos are all really really awesome and i couldn't live without them.

But GOD damn mate you live in a paradise!

  • haha thats true, wonder where that place is

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHa u broke IT lol keep up the home work out i fined it better then going to a gym

  • Your body is the bomb!!

  • scooby ive learnt lots of exercises from the vids youv made thancks keep making them ive gone frome benching 80kg to 110kg doing the killer cheast workout 8 times straight after doing my bench pressing in 18 monthes you reaily no how to train make more vids ive been doing your nutrition diet and lost 7 pounds im at 14/12 now thanks for all the advice

  • First up Scooby, ur doing humanity a great service, sharing ur knowledge and advise with common folks like us.THis is much appreciated!!!

I have a question on a chest worout, sorry IM posting it here, I guess the chestworkout vids hav text comments disbaled.I have been working out for abt 6 months now and my shoulders happen to be big and are stronger than the rest of my body. However, after every chest workout my upper arms and shoulders are sore and not my chest. What am I doing wrong?

  • Dont be so fast to think that something is wrong. Are you getting stronger every month? Working chest requires triceps and shoulders so its quite likely they will get sore till they are strong enough so that your chest tires first.

  • Thanx for replying.

Yah maybe I'm jumping the gun, lets wait a couple of months and check, but the other thing I wonder about is that the days I bench press my chest muscles gets sore too and the days I do the dumbell press its my shoulders and triceps, however I do more weigths on the dumbell press than on the bench, that might explain way.

Thanks again and please keep up ur wonderful work. Ur helping shape the world into a less flabbier place!!

  • now how bout that 20+pounds (that's right, I use a metrical system and dont write l, b, s rofl) on my belly=)

  • I recomend to do abs @ home using a swiss ball is a great piece! ;)

  • one more thing pleas tell me what you can bench my gues is about 170kg your proper cut as well

  • I havent done bench press in over a decade, never liked it much.

  • Thank you man =)

  • congateraterations on all the good advice your giveing keep makeing videoes your insperationale the best vids iv seen on youtube to put size on fair play to you

  • nice video as usual.

    regards from egypt !

  • another fantastic video.

Do you think it would be possible for you to make a lower abb exercise video, that would be perfect.

    Thanks again for the vid.

  • agreed. I could use some advice for training lower abs. I can see my upper abs fine but the bit of lower abs I got is covered with fat

  • hanging leg raises would help there, straight legged if possible, but bent legged knee raises would be ok if you can't yet manage many straight legged

  • Cardio is what you need to see the lower abs!

  • Scooby I respect all your videos and have found them very helpful, yet in the summer I had gotten what is known as a 'naked spine' with shoulder arched forward revealing the top part of the spine, giving me terrible posture. The personal trainer at my newly joined gym said it was from sit ups and crunches as they infact reduce the size to which the abs can strech. When doing sit ups on a ball you can bend the full degree of your body backwards as well as forwards, streching and building the abs.

  • So I learnt in fact that sits ups and crunches lower your shoulders down as those muscles are connected to the abs giving bad posture and the abs are being compressed in those excersises because you are only moving your torso forwards and not backwards.

    like this oddly drawn diagram..

    Normal sit ups/crunches: __ -> _/

    Sit ups using the fitness ball:  _/ -> __ -> _ \

Does that make sense to anyone?

  • ok the diagram didn't come out properly... LOL

  • from sit ups doubt they would have that much of a impact. the only time my back has ever hurt is when i dont have my legs in right position...

  • Its so hard to explain, but my personal trainer showed how normal sit ups on the floor are only flexing your body one way, which is forward, but wot bout flexin it backwards.. u cant if on the floor, but using a fitness ball allows u to so u streeeetchh the abs, properly working them, normal sit ups cause terrible posture and give u a naked spine, im living proof.

  • Sounds to me like you need to see a doctor and see whats going on. Sounds like it occurred rather quickly which makes me think its even more important that you get it checked out.

  • Well I saw a doctor, who forwarded me to a physiotherapist and none of them really knew what it was. Turns out all the ab crunches I did so very often had slumped my shoulders forward so now I'm doing ab workouts on the fitness ball where I can strech the abs out and get my posture back correctly. It's the first I heard of sit ups and crunches being bad for your posture, dunno if you heard that before Scoobs. Great videos btw! Maybe your average person's posture isn't affected by ab crunches?

  • DarkXAce: Imbalances such as this are often caused by one muscle group becoming shortened and stronger than the opposing muscles which become loose and weak. This is why you should always work both sides/back and front evenly. It sounds to me like you need to do back exercises, and stretch the abs. For example a backbend stretch using a gym ball, and back extensions to strengthen the opposing muscles. Ask your physio if that would be safe for you. (I am not a medical professional or trainer)

  • Yes what you said right there is exactly what the personal trainer at the gym says and has got me doing in my routine. It's sad that doctors, dieticians and physiotherapists actually no very little about building muscle and its affects.

  • DarkXAce: Also, as you say they don't seem to know what it is, see if you can get referred to a specialist in your condition, or a spine specialist, or get another opinion. If you do get the ok for back exercises, take it very slow as the lower back must be treated with care, and if it is weak to start with you need to be extra careful. Get someone who knows what they're talking about to show you the proper form.

  • I tried out using the fitness ball and working my back and neck, already there is improvement. The personal trainer at the gym advises me to not do any crunches etc and just use the ball for ab workouts. I would suggest the same for others out there.

  • DarkXAce:I'm glad you've found a good trainer and got some good results :o) I hope you make a full recovery.

  • thanks man!

  • optimum nutrition or muscletech productions are highly recommend?

  • hey scooby!

its one of your subscribers, i think your awesome! =]

but i was wondering, how much do you bench (your max} im just curious.

and how much should a 15 year old football player be able to bench?

    thanks in advance.

  • Dont get caught up in how much you *should* be able to bench, it is what it is. This is how people get injured by lifting what they *want* to lift and not what they can safely control. Just focus on good form and trying to get a little stronger each month and the gains will come.

  • thank you! much appreciated.

  • Excellent as always ! very very funny guy nice one scooby !

  • hey scooby just correct me if im wrong, basically sum1 is on a diet, and does roughly 30-60minutes cardio a day, but i remember once u said that overtraining is not good, so if this person does more cardio usall, for example 2hours a day, would that be more effective or would it not really make a difference? thnx

  • Hey Scooby, I workout all muscles everyday, but I want to change to working spacific body parts each day so I get more out of my work. I heard that if I do this I should "destory" my muscle and give it about a week to recover. How many sets should I do with this routine?

  • that was me last year. I've grown a lot bigger after I started working out only two muscle per day and resting each muscle for a week. and of course eating right

  • How many sets did you perform? And i'm cautious because I want to get bigger, however this method may just make you look bigger but working all muscles everyday may actually be better for performance because in my work I use these muscles everyday. I'm not sure.

  • I did the same for 3 months. I just got skinnier because I was not getting enough rest. ON top of that, I was not eating well either. During summer (another 3 months), I ate 7 meals a day (including one protein shake, and one hi-protein milk shake later). My goal was to get bigger so I took a lot of calories and didn't do any cardio and gained a little fat too (obviously). I worked 1-2 muscles a day. Did 3-4 different excersises for each muscle. 4 sets for each exercise. no more than 8-10 reps.

  • you mean, you want to increase endurance? Then do this: bench 10 reps of 135 lbs. Then, without rest, bench 10 reps of 115 lbs. And keep going down. The same with other workouts too. Adjust the weight that goes with your strength level.

  • I mean you know how you get bodybuilders that go to shows to show off these HUGE muscles, but infact they're weak as kittens. And then you get these martial artist that look more lean and don't have muscles anywhere near that size and yet could out perform the bodybuilders any day. I was thinking that if you workout all muscles everday you may not look like a bodybuilder but you would perform more like a martial artist.

  • lol I haven't done much research on that part. But if you really want to build strength, do only 2 reps max. Do not go over that. I mean, choose your weights so that you cannot go over 2 reps even if you tried your hardest. This techniques applies effectively to pressing workouts like shoulder presses, benchpresses and flat/incline dumb-bell presses. It's like power lifting. That will build your strength and wont concentrate very much on mass building.

  • 2 reps?! Lol, do you mean sets?

  • lift super heavy weights - so heavy that even when you use all your strength you cannot go over 2 reps. that's how you build strength. you gotta get yourself across that limit- that barrier. remember always to get a spotter when you do heavy lifting. This is about getting yourself across your physical limit during every workout, which could be fatal.

  • That sounds like what's happening to me cause i've been improving far faster in my pull-ups than anything else because of the fact i'm having to pull my entire weight of the ground causing me to only be able to do about 2 reps and now I can do around 10. Also My back feels really hard now, So you're probable right, it does work more effictiently.

  • If you are losing bodyfat by doing lots of cardio while working out, the decreased bodyweight can make the pullups much easier. Not saying that is your case but some people forget that and think they are getting stronger when they are not.

  • there you go. you already discovered it. If you are a college student, or have friends who play football, they'll tell you to do the same thing for building strength.

  • We're abit different over here lol. People who play football (rugby for us) don't really train. Just any old person does it. And most of them probable wouldn't know how.

  • You are comparing apples to oranges. Arnold Schwartzennegger could have out benchpressed Bruce Lee by 5 to 1. Bruce Lee would still have kicked his butt with two hands tied behind his back because of his speed and skill.

  • I suppose lol. So are you saying Bruce Lee would be more incline to work all muscles everyday? Cause I would rather be him. No offence to Arnold, I like him too lol.

  • Take a chest workout, I bet that Bruce Lee NEVER did bench press. He would probably have done clapping pushups, falling pushups, or something like that. His training was probably focused at getting that explosive punch, not at being able to bench 405lbs :)

  • On my website checkout WorkoutPlans>Advanced for a suggestion of the advanced workout you are talkng about.

  • The more intensely you work out, the longer it takes to recover. When you get to the point where you can lift with high intensity (6mo-2years), then you need 4-8 days rest before you hit that muscle group again. To rest less results in overtraining, strength and mass stagnation.

  • Oh, Scooby the great, lord and bodybuilding and more, I have a confession to make!!! All this time, even listening to your advice about not taking supplements other than protein powder, I have been taking creatine for about 2 months now, and I have built a great body taking it, but I wanna stop now, but I'm scared that if I do, all of my hard work and muscle will significantly decrease. Is this a possibility? What should I do!?

  • If you stop the creatine, the only thing that might happen is that you will lose a bit of water weight and as a side effect immediately look more ripped.

  • yes with creatine you retain more water!

  • Lol.

  • Hi im a beginner at weight lifting and i want to no one thing. If i lift weights one day and my muscles isnt sore the next day is that ok or should i push myself harder to get it sore?

  • u should push yourself harder to get sore cause if your not sore that means u didnt work hard enough

  • it seems like i can never get my biceps and triceps score. i follow scooby's "killer home arm workout" and im always very tried after doing the exercise, even a little wozzy sometimes

  • You don't have to be sore the day after a workout to know that you're doing it right. Sore muscles are due to your muscles getting a lot of tiny tears in them from doing a lot more work than they're used to.

As long as you maintain a good workout routine and maintain proper form and discipline then you should see major gains, even if you're not sore the next day.

  • Scooby actually posted this response to a similar question earlier:

Soreness the next day is only one possible indicator of a good workout. Dont stress if you dont get sore. If you are getting a little stronger every month, thats a much better indication of progress.

  • Another excellent video by Scooby. Shows you how to do correctly and AVOID IMPROPER FORM (which many people unknowingly use). As a reminder, always, going lighter for perfect form is better than going heavy with WRONG form. No need to go heavy just because you're afraid other guys might judge that you're weak or because you want to impress ladies. Form is more important than maxing out with wrong form. If you disagree with me or Scooby on this, then I don't know which world you're from.

  • Amen!

  • Great info. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos. Some great fitness tips.

  • Are you a personal trainer scooby?

  • No, I'm not a personal trainer or a medical professional - just someone with experience.

  • That's cool. I've gained a lot a strength and learnt about the correct forms to use since watching your vids. :-)

  • what would a 40 minute ab workout consist of? I try my best to work my abs as hard as possible but the longest amount of time i can work them is 20 minutes unless i doubles my amount of sets from 3 to 6

  • Can you make a video about stretching?

  • PLEASE REPLY... im 15 and i do one set of 100 crunches and shortly after another 50. ive been doin it for about a week. im not what u would call a really skinny person but im muscled up every where exept my abs. do u think my ab workout will help?

  • Hey you artistic people out there, I need your help designing a graphic for the ScoobysWorkshop T-shirt. Please seem my website for info, there is a link on the main page. Thanks!!!!!

  • dont forget to do lower abs exercices!

Most of human have weak lower abs!

  • do you know how?

    I'd like to know

  • There are no "lower abs".

The "rectus abdominis" goes from below your chest right to your pelvis.

  • Exactly!

  • Hey scoob, sice you're really inspiring to folks out there to excercise, how about making your youtube vids downloadable or putting them all together on your own made dvd and profit off it.

  • I dont like the idea of selling vids, I think they should be free. I am investigating the possibility of making them available as podcasts though (also free).

  • True i understand. Podcast is the best way to go. ask around who can show you, i'm googling it myself lol.

  • I love your videos. I would like to coment to some another then this cause I don't use this workout but I use alot of another workouts. Thanks for all the help.

  • I guess they are both good... I think I will just finish the EAS and then try OP Nutrition after that. Besides they recommand to change brands, cos your body gets use to the brand and then will eventually decrease the gain

  • The woodchop excercise is a really good workout for the obliques.

  • Scooby do you think about the reply I posted for EAS and OP Nutrition? I just want to know if there is something I did wrong or miscalculated cos I haven't open the Package for EAS and I can still return it if I figure out why OP is better then EAS. My calculation shows EAS is better in price.

I know OP nutrition has 1 g more protein but I guess I add some extra milk and cover up that 1 g protein EAS lacks (probably don't even need to because its only 1 g). Anything Else that Makes OP better?

  • 1 gram isnt shit.

  • the rope really hurts my hands lol

  • use workout gloves... Check ebay for it, they have some good ones and inexpensive...

  • Get a cheap pair of leather gloves for $5 at Home Depot, they work just as well!

  • try it with a t-bar then

  • Try some simple work gloves you can buy at hardware stores. They may be cheaper than workout gloves and do the same job.

  • Consider yourself SUBBED.

  • Another inspiring from Scooby

    Thanks man!!!

btw You must be one of the most positive people EVER!!

  • Doom, gloom, economic collapse, death, destruction, President Bush, Iraq, gobal warming. There, how is that? I'm practicing being negative.

  • now that's more like it, lol

  • That's quite negative...

Why would someone want to practice beeing negative...

    Peace

  • I was just being funny to prove that I can be negative, not my normal mode though :)

  • Scooby how hard is it staying in such good shape at your age? Do you find it harder to workout now then say like 5 years ago?

  • No different, I work out just as hard as I did 15 years ago. The only difference is that back then I worked out hard to gain muscle, now I workout hard just to maintain.

  • head banging lmao i watched this video yesterday went dwn the gym and someone was doing it! couldent help but laff. make me laff has well people on the bench press bouncing it off there chest lol

  • i´m a fitness trainer since 5 years.

respect! ya exercises are very precicious!

    nice work dude!

    1 fan more :)

  • Thanks, thats a true compliment coming from a trainer (I'm not one)!

  • HAHAHA dude that was hilarious. Nice vid, only been up a day and already 4000 views! =)

  • Where's Hans? Not even a Hans cameo? Free the Hans!!

  • Hans can be seen in the background, pondering what he should put in his letter to the GLF.

  • I think he was trying to go for a swim ...

  • Thanks again scoob ab training can get sooo boring, your a real pioneer and motivator. Reminds me I need to go buy some more frozen veggies.

  • I saw that you are 47, i was like omg! I thought you were about 30 lol!

    You don't look 47

  • Wow! I thought he was in his 30's too! Goes to show you what keeping healthy does for you.

  • I love you scoob but you gotta get rid of that out dated undergravel filter for your angels lol Keep it up!

  • I ll try can you give me some ideas about what you want on the shirt and any specific graphics that are must have?

  • On the main page of my website, there is a link with info about the stuff I need in the graphic. Basically Hans the Gnome as a bodybuilder :) Needs to be a line drawing with thick, bold lines so it silkscreens well.

  • i've done many of your workouts and they've helped me a lot in losing my extra weight and putting on some muscle. but for some reason my face (cheek area) still has some fat, its as if my body lost weight but my face stayed the same. so as weird as this may sound, are there exercises for your face?
