"There's nothing like the sight of an amputated spirit. There's no prosthetic for that" ....just beautiful, wise, inspirational words... and who better than Al Pacino to deliver them..
I don't get this scene. If you see three guys doing something wrong and you are asked to report on it aren't you supposed to do the right thing which is to report on them because they have indeed committed something wrong? And even if they are your friends, would that mean that your loyalty to your friends overrules even right justice? I know I would "rat" on my friends if they did something wrong and I was the only person to see it. Friends who expect you to cover up their mistakes are shit ppl
It's not like they killed someone, they just made a fool out of that ass kissing school principal, it was a very healthy behavior. Not admitting they did it when two of their classmates' future is at stake because of their deed, though, that shows lack of courage and makes Charlie even more unique and admirable.
@Nelsonwmj If you paid attention to the speech, Al said that he doesn't know whether his silence was right or wrong. However, he does know that the bigger wrong here is to buy his future from something as low using others to get what you want out of life.
I love this scene, were the good guy ends up getting what he wants, and the stupid assholes are looking at al pacino like who the fuck is this guy. When a guy stands up to the bullys when no one else will, wish there were more people like this in the real world that just didnt think about themselves and let some poor bastard get blamed for doing the right thing.Great movie and one of my favourite scenes
@crusader037972 yes his love for the boy brings him out of himself and makes him realise that he still has good emotions that were just buried away for so long, also the boys refusal to give up on him makes him feel wanted for the first time since his accident.
"That my friends is called integrity..that's called courage. Now thats the stuff leaders should be made of". - You notice how the jackass at the podium can not argue this point?
This is Al Pacino's first roll I seen. Well I've seen Scarface but that's about it. Oh and the scene from "Any Given Sunday" that was a good speech. Al Pacino is a good man. Wonderful actor, and all around. Tony Montana!
"You hurt this boy, you're gonna be Baird bums, the lot of ya'. And Harry, Jimmy, Trent, wherever you are out there...FUCK YOU TOO!" Hahahahahahahahaha. This part always makes me laugh to the point of tears.
I resent the fact that Charlie would be labeled a snitch if he had said who the perpetrators were. If he had VOLUNTARILY told the headmaster, THEN it would be snitching.
If a few jackasses want to engage in vandalism, they better make sure that no one may witness them in the act.
@XFS540 yeah everyone knows that telling to save your own ass isn't considered betraying integrity and that automatically absolves you of any label.... -_-
@SmokenAces Hey, don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Yeah, it's true that it may not be completely honorable to name names, but then again, Charlie's time shouldn't have to be wasted because of what those assholes did. All in all, justice was served anyway.
To take the right path it's difficult for every one , but it has to be done in order to have a better world. The life will be more easy to live with better people.
I don't know who went to this school.William Howard Taft, William Jennings Bryan, William Tell whoever. Their spirit is dead if they had one it's gone. You're buildilng a rat ship here. Vessel for sea going snitches
I love how AL PACINO patiently wait if he'll snitch or not. Best answer: They were size and shape of almost any student. GO FIGURE for yourself whom exactly HAHA
This film came on randomly at 3 in the morning when I was exhausted and I was stuck to it. The ending smashed it, I was jumping around like some kind of groupy.
"Now I have come to the crossroads ins my life. I always knew what the right path was. Without exception I knew; but I never took it. You know why? It was TOO DAMN HARD!" What a great fuckin line! Words that can inspire someone
@maxx9199 If he had mental retardation then he wouldn't know which category he would fall into. I'm guessing you don't know which category you fall into.
@GodfatherCorleone77 Its because Pacino has put out so many incredible perfomances its hard to pick one. Besides Godfather people have argued that his best acting includes, DOg Day AFternoon, And Justice for All, and an underrated performance in Serpico. Pacino is such a good actor its just hard for people to call this his best film considering every movie he did in the 70's seemed to be an Oscar worthy performance.
"Now I have come to the crossroads in my life. I always knew what the right path was. Without exception, I knew. But I never took it. You know why? It was too damn hard. " Please thumb this down, and prove him right.
Integrity is doing whats right, not doing what is lawful or honest. Integrity is doing whats right, not doing what is lawful or honest. If you know where an abused woman is hiding but you tell her husband you don't know where she is when he asks that is dishonest and also shows integrity.
