He looks like a Great-Billed to me. I have an IRN and a GCC myself. However, i'm quite familiar with the Asiatic species. He's a gorgeous bird, my IRN Keiko does this similar dance towards my GCC Kiwi. That is until Kiwi has had enough, and decides to give Keiko a small pinch on his leg reminding him he's a different species.
Well, nothing anyone says is going to change this person's mind but it is not healthy for a bird to be so bonded to you. You want a flock atmosphere and regurgitating and masturbating/dancing whatever you'd like to call it is not good. A bird perceiving you as it's mate is never good. But there is plenty of info out there on how to stop it unfortunately I can't write it all out on here.
@mewbot you are actually encouraging mating behaviour and that isn't good for your bird especially if it is a female you don't want eggs it takes a lot out of a bird to make an egg it saps their calcium (I am a veterinarian assistant at an exotic vet clinic I know what I'm taking about!) but thanks anyways.
hey dude where did u buy this parrot?pls let me know this is same as my parrot try to watch in my profile pls im begging u i need to get same like him again coz our parrot died this dec2 only until now i cnt accept that hes been 8yrs from our family so pls help me
@womanizervanch i hope you never get another bird in your life.... i saw your videos and it looks like you abused it.. whats wrong with its leg? your terrible.
he looks like one of the ringneck species, looks like an psittacula. theres one called malabar wich is very similar to this one. over all, a lovely bird u have. would love to have one of them, have several different psittacula birds.
My Paroy do this to... But I don't know how to pose a video on youtube. And he does this and feeds pariray and I love tanygnathus lucionensis. They're my inspiration.
Appendix II includes species not necessarily threatened with extinction, but in which trade must be controlled in order to avoid utilization incompatible with their survival.
im sure pippin is in good hands anyway =), by the way, what country is your location? im a parrot hobbiest and also looking for blue naped handfeds...
Well, one would assume if the bird is a PHILIPPINE blue naped parrot they would be common in the Philippines *duh*. For most other countries these birds are very rare in aviculture. Many of us who deal with birds on a high volume basis have never seen one outside of a book.
nope. it's not rare in the philippines. i've seen more sun conures and indian ringnecks here than blue napes. i've been looking for one for 3 years now. i'm not looking to hard though.
My blue nape does that wing thing and sways back and forth, I had no idea that was a mating dance since he doesnt exhibit any of the other behaviors like regurgitating. These birds are so rare it great to learn something new about him! Thank you for posting!
Just a follow up, I passed your video along to a parrot behaviorist, she said the bird is not doing a mating dance - he is mating - with your hand. The bird is actually masturbating and this is a very bad thing to allow the bird to do. When he starts to exhibit this behavior, you should put him down immediately and not encourage it. Good luck with your beautiful birds.
@pattyinla I have a question for your parrot behaviorist friend: Can birds easily determine the difference between males and females? i.e., how do they know who to try to mate with? Is this bird in the video exhibiting exclusively male behavior?
Fantastic video of a rare parrot doing a natural behavior! I believe this is a Muellers, or Blue Napped, parrot? Very handsome fellow! He sure likes you!

He/she is actually masturbating or "mating" with your hand. It's something you don't want to continue to encourage.

what a perverted bird haha my sun does the bob of the head and then regurgitates although i put her down when she does that its gross
fineartofdestruction 2 years ago
@fineartofdestruction The regurgitation is a sign of bonding. You put her down and you're teaching her not to bond.

Um, yeah, that bird is definitely masturbating on you. Not healthy.
