  • More more fast go to strong

  • Yeah you are petty good

  • wow everytime someone posts a video there are so many subject matter experts criticising them its sick ! wheres all your videos of you guys preforming the perfect flawless techs ! what ever happened to the part in martial arts about setting your ego aside and being humble simply striving to better ones self

  • A guy puts up a video everyone feels the need to criticise him out of some misplaced resentment. To accomplish anything means not far from this people will be there to debase a person's accomplishments. This is a nature of jealousy.

  • Makiwara is not meant for power punches...

  • Hitting the makawari too hard results in injury, as master Nakahodo has said, a little bit everyday.

Been hitting makawari almost daily for 6 years and have gradually increased in force and power, but to start off from scratch hitting hard will only injure your joints and probably result in cuts and scars.

  • @smkalberta hey dude i need a makiwara to train on but can you tell me how can i get one? (i cant practise in my gym now cuz i cant pay the tax...thx

  • I would like to see your knuckles now.

  • if the makawari is lame, then hitting a punching bag leads to wimpy fighters too?

  • lame matrial art...

  • Yeah he was love tapping it and not even using a decent stance for Makiwara training. Though maybe he was just showing his Makiwara mostly like the title says...

  • @dejathorus You stick your arms out like a tea pot. That is not good Karate. Also you're putting too much shoulder into it. Training since 1972? Damn that's a long time to train the WRONG way. Oh yeah and your Shuto ukes are crap! Your thumbs sticking out in the air begging to be broken and your fingers aren't tight together. I really hope you don't have a black belt

  • @PnutButter1986 you're a dildo, faggot ass hater

  • @louisperkins No you're senselessly name-calling and the details I'm criticising are true to Karate - a loose shuto hand will not cause any damage, but it will to you. You cannot punch to the fullest and fastest if you're elbows are sticking out - like a teapot. I was wrong about the shoulders but your tetsui fist is not straight. Mate it's Karate, the devil's in the details

  • You stick your arms out like a tea pot. That is not good Karate. Also you're putting too much shoulder into it. Training since 1972? Damn that's a long time to train the WRONG way

  • Thanks for posting this video. Don't retract punches when hitting the makiwara, stick them in, rather.

  • load of Bollocks

  • Nice pony tail sissy

  • You hits like a girl come on let blood go out

  • Impresioneaza-ma cu ceva,TARE. Esti purisan, astea le face un pustan.

  • Esti ncepator,loveste in beton,karateka !

  • My cat has one of those.

  • SHOMEN

  • awsome

  • love it keep banging away hands of steel

  • If he punch harder ir will brokes

  • lust use a table...

    (joke)

  • you can punch me like that in the nose 100 times and i wouldn't feel it come on man

  • @Ne3emA

    T W A T!!

  • @Ne3emA yeah but what if that was your dick bro?

  • @Ne3emA He's strengthening his hands, not fighting, there is an OBVIOUS and HUGE difference. Strengthening your hands takes years and years, it is a slow process, you have to strike at a moderate strength to avoid injury, thus obviously he is not pounding his fits away like you would strike in an actual fight.

  • @Ne3emA tells us all you have no idea what Makiwara is for,its to toughen up the tool (ie your hand ,foot etc),you dont hit the thing like you would a dumbarse like you!.....and Im telling ya bitch If I hit you you'd be in a coma for life...

  • can someone tell me wtf a makiwara is???

  • @blueC0MET The thing u use for hitting exercise

  • @blueC0MET does the video doesnt explains that to you ?

  • i know u mustve worked hard on it to be able to itit so hard

  • esa wea es pa puro joderse las articulaciones -

  • the reason people say you're mediocre, crappy, bad form, is because they're full of envy

  • amateur verry bad.

  • peice o' shit

  • Can anyone tell me how to make a makiwara plz? I train on my wall with a towel (not sure if its writen like that) but it makes a lot of noise and my neighbours complain :\ I need help plz. Thank you. Ossss

  • @kyuubifox66-- I made mine with an oak 2x4 about 6 feet tall and cut it down near my height, wrapped 1 full layer of hemp rope around a 6.5 inch section. If you want it outdoor, sink it down about 2.5+ feet to get some flex but not too much. For indoor purposes, mount it to a wall, on the bottom drill in a 8+ inch piece of the oak 2x4 to the wall and bolt it in to the wall thru the makiwara and extra piece, this allows some flex but again not too much. Good luck! Keep training the RIGHT way!

  • @RockinJapGirl Thanks a lot :D That really helped :) Good luck with your training too. Osss \m/^.^\m/

  • If you start hitting hard right away, you will hurt yourself. That's probably why he isn't hitting that hard, either to show you that or not to hurt himself.

    Common sense :)

  • Hi Livenordie I am hitting it hard!

  • nice keen strikes, ignore all the people trying to criticize you, you have good power strong focus, and as for your technique they don't know what you practice so they have no say in the matter, technique is only proper when you make it your own, good looking makiwara, question for ya, when did you start hitting makiwara?

  • no his maki is good now he needs 2 work on hitin it harder

  • Well, as much as I respect you as a fellow karateka, I feel I must agree with newlevel on your form. Yorur maki is too stiff. I'm not saying you need to make it 1/2 inch to the point where it breaks on you, but it needs to be able to flex. Also, your form should be worked on. Your punches loose a lot of power when you bring your elbow away from your body, and you use too much shoulder in your strikes. That is both unhealthy and bad form.

  • I need a Makiwara that has no flex as I tend to break those that flex sorry. But I have been hitting the Makiwara since 1972.

  • @dejathorus

You might have been hitting makiwara since 1972 but sadly in the wrong way, this really is not how makiwara works and what it is really being used to. I dont know which "style" you belong to but thats just not the proper way - the punch you want to strenghten your seiken with is called kizami zuki and its not the kind of punch which should be trained with makiwara - its better to train it on a boxing bag or a bag with sand. The normal cuki is much better and you should punch THROUGH

  • @dejathorus making the same mistake over and over again does not make it right

  • @dejathorus Interesting that you've been hitting stuff since '72 -why?

However, the point of a makiwara is that it does flex, surely?

  • how often should one practice on a makiwara if you train in karate heavily? like once a week to let the bone heal? or every other day or every day? thanks to everyone who gives their advice and knowledge.

  • i hit makiwara as much as i could, bloody, pain, i just pushed thru it all. eventually your skin will callous over and become hard. if you don't mind ugly, white cloouses on your hands, hit it everyday, as much as you can! good luck!

  • mediocre..

  • Please post your video of you hitting a makiwara. Thnx

  • @dejathorus your makiwaras its kind of weird o_O mine one its diferent anyway its ok dude :D

  • @dejathorus Good practice! Haha i'm too cheap to get a makiwara so I slip on gloves and drill on trees. Not sure if I get the same effectiveness, but my knuckles cant feel anything when I hit the bag now. I feel like after you do makiwara for a while, you should transition to a punching bag and having someone hold pads for you. After doing karate, TKD, Kung fu, and Kenpo, I found that boxing REALLY cleaned up my punching! Try it out man! Wish the best in your path of Karate! Respect

  • If you apply a good strong dit ja jow before and after each session, and don't overdue the training, you CAN prevent a lot of damage to your hand, so i'm sorry newlevel, but you are mistaken.

  • Dont worry about what other tell you. Keep practicing that's all with no goal. Me i like better to train in an internal way but i admire the way of other too.

  • Je me suis renseigné, le makiwara est à éviter, le travail au sac est bien plus avantageux.

  • Well...if you have no damage, then go to your local chiropractor or physiciogist and see what they tell you.

I'm sorry I don't have an ego...I'm just trying to help you out because the shock from those hits are damaging. That's the solid truth.

Yes...you do need flexibility, but not too much and not too less.

I'm sorry too...but your elbow positioning hitting the makiwara itself is not correct. Keep your elbows in close to your ribs for an effective strike.

  • And your ability to judge my comment as ego is a sign you don't know what Karate is all about.

  • Proper training with the maki will often not use hard strikes. It many times will be used to correct the form and correct transmission of power from the hips into the hands or feet. Many of the beginning exercises are only pushing against the maki.

  • no im not a teacher and definitely not 12 years old....there is nothing wrong with his "style" I don't know what style of karate he practices...I was talking about his form.

I'm not going to fight over something like this. I'm just warning the practioner here. If other karateka would watch this video..they would say the SAME THING I'm saying.

If you read my comments you would understand that. Your immature comment proves that maybe you are the 12 year old?

  • You guys are all just dumbasses.

His makiwara training is meant to train your focus on proper deliverance of techniques not just because of pressure , power , speed or whatever you believe is proper makiwara training.

Heck you all are just a bunch of sissies sitting and cowering behind your pc and notebooks typing out things which you do not even know.

This man's makiwara strikes are good.

So stop being an ignorant fool by trying to say his is wrong or right. Prove it!

  • MDIS - I understand your reasoning but the fact is these people are correct about the details of his arm positioning, etc. If you don't adhere to the rules of hitting a Machiwara properly, you are causing damage to yourself, injuring your wrist, elbow and shoulder, aside from not developing the punch correctly. He is not delivering the technique properly... no offense intended.

  • I totally 100% agree. Elbows are turned outward when striking. They should be close to the ribs when punching or striking. No offense to the practioner here in the clip...but realize we are warning you to be very careful and use proper technique when hitting a makiwara. The wrong way and you end up paying for it years later!

Another thing..the makiwara has too much pressure! It needs give and flexibility!

From one karateka to another...stop this while you can. It's damaging your body.

  • Hey buddy what the hell do you know? I been hitting makiwara forever. I need a solid post, as the flexible ones break on me. Soz to deflate your ego.

  • Hi newlevel25

An intersting conversation you guys are having here.

    I have been hitting makiwara's since 1972

The reason my Makiwara has pressure is so that I can get more power development and focus of energy, The elbow's issue is not actually relevent. I would like to Thank MIDS for his kind comments and true understanding.

  • so where can u find these things i need em for my knuckles thx

  • Hey man I been hitting 'makiwara' for over thirty years and no damage to me!

  • Many thanks for your kind comments lolxx

  • hmmm weak hand..hehe you need more train when i strike a makiwara... you should see efect..

  • your grandma did it.

  • You should hit it and keep the pressure on, not bounce straight off! Whack it my friend!

  • With all that padding why are you afraid to hit that thing?

  • Nice to see people are still keeping the makiwara alive in their own way.

  • The elbow is supposed to remain at your side, you lose power if it comes away from your body!

    :D

  • you need to punch it and hold. that`s what my sensei (Morihiro Yamauchi 8dan) told me.

  • look, i just saw a video that the guy is doing right

    /watch?v=esxnMFOesZ4&feature=related

  • well done good hard training, keith

  • u should try it agaisnt a palm tree, it's perfect

  • got a palm tree in your garden?i havn't ;)

  • don't have a garden of my own, but there's a park about 200 metres away from where i live. there are palm trees in a quiet place, no one ever bother me when i start the punishment xD

  • what a wanker

  • can you post a video on how to make one

  • Good plans on the 24Fighting Chickens web site.

  • Do you strike with full power? If not this is what your training for, right? To be able to strike with full power without hurting yourself.

  • its part reson why alot of kick boxer and boxer break there fist alot though there fist are more heavier solid then the average for hitting all the time u need this training if your goinna be punching bare fist over 1k ib pressure without breaking.

  • I strike with full power many thanks, I have been hitting a makawara for over 30 years.

  • what style of Karate do you practice?

  • Nice makiwara, could you tell me what does the makiwara improbe?

I mean, does it give you a strong fist and strong knuckles??

    Does it also give power?

    Thanks

  • Makiwara training done carefully improves your punching power. It teaches you how to use your hand correctly when striking somthing hard. It also develops penetration. However you must train under a teacher who knows how to teach Makiwara safely. Also if you practice Tameshiwara you will need to train on the makiwara.

Imagin if I hit you as hard as I could after many years on the makiwara, A nice easy snapping movement ouch! However if you are training for combat sport/points dont bother.

  • thankx i'll try to make a makiwara with my father that he knows

  • Cool be careful when hitting it, as a beginner to makiwara training make sure that the post is flexible. And that you use straw.

If you check out the internet you will find the correct dimensions and construction methods, have fun.

  • It learns you youve got to hit further than the surface. It gives you an good fist and strong knuckles aswell ye :)

  • thats pretty hardcore (down side) its not completely covered and the board (from what i could see) dosent flex that much so its an even bigger risk using that thing lol it looks good though

  • Thanks I been makiwara training manymany years and find that the thinner flexing type support posts too weak, and break, it's personal preferance.

  • Interesting. I have one of those pre-made makiwara boards that are supposed to be nailed to a wall (not a good idea if you care about the property), and I was thinking to attach it to a pole.

But the rope-made "pad" of the makiwara looks interesting. Thanks for sharing.

  • These are good Straw pads you can get them from Shogun International.
