I'm a 45 year old guy - so this is way before my time and I don't care for ballet on its own. But I find this fascinating just like "The Red Shoes." The music is great too. Powell and Pressburger made ballet accessible to so many with these movies. Moria Sheara is also stunning ( its between her and Maureen O'hara for the hottest red head ever). Today's computer effects are fine - in a "gee whiz" way. But they don't compete with the beauty of this old-time "analog" effects.
@manfromlamuncha: my favorite since I was 5 and first saw it on Million Dollar Move - have seen it just about every year since - it is ingrained in my psyche. This unmasking scene was always especially significant - even worked it into my graduate thesis. The stuff of CG Jung...

My favorite movie - and George Romero's also! This movie is the "unifed field" of art!

A brilliant film! BTW, the conductor in the final scene is none other than Sir Thomas Beecham.

What is the specific title of this piece and does anyone know if it can be found on YT?
[Other than this clip, of course. ;)]

So what is the point with the dancing scene?
Aside of the fact that it reveals about Lindorf and the three girls being Stella?
