  • the greatest colour for a classic track/road bike molteni orange

  • wow his legs are MASSIVE but its to be expected. One of the all time greatest in the sport.

  • @pmay222

On the contrary, the rules were changed because the hour distances being posted on carbon bikes were enabling the record to be broken multiple times in the same year. People started asking what distance Merckx, Coppi or Anquetil could have done on a carbon bike. So, now all hour record attempts must now use a circle-tubed, steel bike with spoked rims. It sets an equipment standard so that all record attempts, whether from the 50's or the modern day are roughly comparable.

  • @brt570 there is a documentary you can watch on youtube with Chris Boardman doing exactly that, trying to break Merckx"s record on a steel bike similar to the one Eddy rode. The interesting thing is that although Boardman was a pursuit specialist he only beat the record by a few metres. Showing how great Eddys record was. I think Mosers record is not a patch on Merckx, neither is Obree"s or Boardmans etc! Because they used better "hardwear" than the great man..

  • @dan32113 Yeah, Obree built himself another "Merckx" style bike too. Apparently he says he'll be going for it again in the next year or so. Moser was the one who really changed things when he used disc wheels and bullhorn bars. Obree could only do it using his praying mantis and superman positions. Boardman introduced the carbon monocoque bike and tri-bars. The fact that none of them were able to do it on a classic steel tube and drop bar track bike is a true testament to Merckx's ability.

  • er ist und bleibt der Größte, einfach unerreicht, danke Eddy.

    Gruß

    Andi

  • havent they changed the rules so any attempt on the hour record now has to use a basic merckx type bike..? kinda shows todays modern materials bikes are nice...but a bit gimmicky..

  • Was that helmet really necessary?

  • de top van de top

  • If he was still in the shape he was then today with today equipment, I think he would beat that record!

  • @grinderkenny I agree, Chris Boardman rode on this Merckx bike that he broke the record, he did the hour ride & only rode 10metres more! Boardman was Olympic track champion, & rider of the fastest prologue in history 55km/h in 1994. This just proves how great Merckx was! ps there was a documentary in UK with Chris constructing a replica of Eddies bike, then doing the record! It might be on youtube!

  • Looks like he dabbles in special K

  • Dude - that's 31 mph! Son of a bitch!

  • After he achieved this, he said that training for it, wasted 3 years of his life.

  • Por considencias del destino llego una bike de eddy Merckx A mis manos original professional estiker de Mexico 1985

  • @equinoxranch. Thanks for the info. I competed for 5 yrs, 1976-1982 in the USA as an amateur, and 1 as a pro. My fav bikes were Colnago. My track bike was the best I ever rode. I also rode Jap bikes and components for my Nishiki sponsor, but I preferred Campy. Merckx was my fav racer. I got to ride with him @ the World's in 1986. Wonderful experience. Still fast, even then!

  • 1911 this. its so good.

  • Chris Boardman has nothing on Eddie. I'd like to see him ride as "primitive" a bike and match Eddie's performance.

  • @Surroundx

Boardman is a great individual, as good and decent as they come and then some. However........., Merckx flew at the last minute to Mexico City to take a crack at the record after a full season that amidst the 40 plus events included numerous victories. No weeks - months of focused practice solely on track. The day was in the low 60's with variable wind between 5 - 8 mph.

Chris practiced for months and did it indoors. A world of difference in his favor as per environment alone.

  • The bike he uses says "Eddy Merckx" on the downtube. Does anyone know who is responsible for building the machine? Did it use Campagnolo components? The tires are white. Any reason for this? How much did it weigh? Where is it now?

  • @arklat It was an Colnago bike and weight about 5.75kg. He drove a 52x14 transmission. The seatpost an the bar was holed, for weightreduction.

  • @arklat

Colnago personally built it. It's in his possession or sometimes loaned out such as at to the Belgian Metro. The tires were specialty track from Clement.

It's a miracle of course that it would ride, after all, it was made from nasty, heavy, rusty steel, not from "superior" uber pop-out carbon, it wasn't an "advanced" compact design to make it stiffer (stiffer and lighter is better, right......, right?.......) and didn't have the fishing tackle "gruppo" from Japan................

  • @equinoxranch Like dislike - you must be the one" dislike" . Too bad you were not around,to your

disgust, then to advance all us fuk -ups and retards, Right? I'm surprised you even use something as archaic

as a computer. C'MON MAN ! You must have reinvented the Wheel !?! Toilet paper ?

  • 148 laps

  • viva Merckx cabron!!!

  • not just biking for an hour. he's been mashing the fuck out of that velodrome for an hour. dude is solid.

  • @thenewfury666

  • @meinLiebsterFeind hahahahaha pussy.

  • The king. The cannibal.

  • Hij was en blijft de beste allertijden

  • @marcomillo49 je mag gerust zijn , een machien op ne velo

  • whats really cool about this is he's wobbling a bit. look, he's not holding his line as still as most pros do today. still far better than most could ever dream of, but his leg speed makes up for added distance. what a monster.

  • @saxyhugs Well he's biking for a damn hour. ahaha

  • @gulfmirage

You are talking about the greatest sportman ever...Show respect!
