@Shanniquitie Classical music is middle class, as they are the only class that, as a group pretends to be a class level higher than they are. There's no inherent value in classical music over any other type of music. An unconscious pretension causes people to value it.
The documentary looks awesome and I'm definitely going to check it out, but I am so disturbed by the popping sound of the exploding toads. The sound is stuck in my head now and has yet to fail in making me shudder.
@lephong Lucky! The only video I remember watching in a bio class was one about an English garden growing wild and the animals it attracted. It was interesting, but not quite as entertaining as this one seems to be.
@rottworks it...definitely sticks in ur mind. its very 80's-90's looking and i think it was to study species and their relationships with other animals or something. it was a while back. man i remember when they used to show a whole lot more videos when i was younger. schoolhouse rock, bill nye the science guy and magic schoolbus. man what happened to learning with entertainment?
@Shanniquitie There's no link between intelligence and classical music. Classical music is nothing more than a tradition perpetuated (funded) by the government. It can't exist by itself as there isn't a sufficient audience to fund it. People listen to it occasionally for the same reason we wear certain suits when we get married, why we wear ties, why we wear collared shirts. It has nothing to do with intelligence. It is mere tradition.
It's a good thing that wasn't an American toad. I don't know about cane toads, but the American ones will empty their bladders when they're frightened, and Bill was holding that one at a somewhat unfortunate angle.
Watched Cane Toads: An Unnatural History in my Biology 20 class one day when we had a sub. No one was laughing except me and my friends because they couldn't figure out if it was serious or not. It is SO FUNNY.
It's incredible--I saw it ages ago on cable and came in on the bit where the toad is in a crate, and then it cuts to the toad's POV. In that moment, I knew this was a movie for me.
Hahahaha...OMG! I had to watch that documentary at school. Our class loved the guy who wud watch the toads mating in his yard. And the guy lining the toads up on the road, classic moment.
god wow I've never really seen that b4 you can see how Lock has written for bill b4 coz its almost like hes a big brother or something here just about keeping up with the humour led by Sean, dont get me wrong I am in love with bill bailey always but its quite sweet, dunno maybe am readin too much in2 it i didnt know that Lock had written for bailey b4 now!
Bill makes a very true point, that classical music is listened to people all around the globe, but it puts some off because of the whole upper-middle class, snobby association that comes with it; when really it is beautiful music.
First of all, the Albert Hall is actually not that large so yes, it limits the amount of people that fit in. However it is broadcast to various locations around the UK where thousands of people all show up for a free concert. It doesn't matter what age you are, what ethnicity, people join together as a group and appreciate classical music together. There are hundreds of concerts over proms season and it's quite cheap. Last night of the proms is the most famous but it's not the only proms show!
@meaning1 Tell me about it, I don't tell people I listen to Classical not because I'm ashamed of it, but because I don't want people to think I'm a total snob.
That's no bullshit about the canetoads. I've got a mate from Catherine in the NT who still tells stories about the Jihad declared the year the cane toads came to town.
I understand the traditional method of dispatch involves a five iron.
you should really try seeing the cane toad doc, then. it's hilarious, as well as informative. and there are songs. as you might imagine, any song about a cane toad must be marvelous.
*high five for the natural history of the chicken*

classical music is mostly middle-class because other people are by and large too stupid to enjoy it

@Shanniquitie are you suggesting that the middle class are smarter?
