Does anyone know if PBS is planning on repeating the Jane Austen series in 2011 I missed a lot of it last year and just love the Austen Books and movies I have seen
At 0:08 - 0:09 with the tall blond man and small woman, does anyone know which jane austen adaptation that is?, meaning the title. if anyone knows please inform me :) thanks
Was I the only one to do an Austen movie marathon? All 6 movies back to back... I have PBS to thank for not seeing the light of day all last weekend. It was great! Though I was a little bleary eyed on Monday.
And, I didn't like Davies new movie: Persuasion but I have not seen Sense and Sensibility yet. Any thoughts on the new adaption of S & S?
I was thinking of buying the complete collection of Masterpiece Jane Austen DVD pack for my younger cousin. Does anyone have this collection? And any critique? I have Pride & Prejudice, but unsure if the new Davies' movies included would make it worth buying the collection?
I liked the new S&S version very much, because it shows what you don't read but you know it is there.Marianne and C Brandon are totally different. She is more mature and we can see more of Elinor's pain and feelings, All the characters are more what i could feel they were after reading it 3 million times. Most people didn't like it but i love it! Anyway the sets are beautiful and the photography is breathtaking.Persuasion i didn't like and it is my favorite book. The 1995 version is beautiful.
Doesn't anybody else think it's pretty funny they call it "The COMPLETE Jane Austen", when actually they've cut lots of scenes from the original versions broadcast in the UK?
Actually I thought the same thing. I was expecting more and they seemed to tie everything up in the last half hour. And it took five hours to present this fabulous movie to end it so abruptly the way the way that they did.
As a long-time Austenophile, I was disappointed in Persuasion -- very truncated, very choppy, and not convincing in the plot or character development. If you weren't familiar with the book, I don't think you would know what the heck was going on!
I absolutely agree with you Jwriter999. Persuasion is my favourite Austen novel, but sadly for me, the adaptation failed to deliver. The tension between Captain Wentworth and Anne seemed to remain constant, unlike the emotional rollercoaster in the book. I didn't really like the running scene at the end though... I preferred Austen's original ending.
Finally!! To see the newest versions in US screens at last. I have yet to see Sense & Sensibility, but Northanger Abbey starring JJ Feild and Felicity Jones is brilliant. Persuasion is also good, though I wish Mansfield Park was made better. No matter, at least it is better than the 1990s (awful) version.
Thank you, PBS/Masterpiece Theater, for bringing this series to the US. Looking forward to the dvds, too.
I have been a Jane Austen fan since I was 13. I am always thrilled when a new adaptation of her novels comes out. I am also interested in the new biography "Miss Austen Regrets"

Even though all those adaptations are the suckiest ones, the trailer is very good. ^_^ Just like ITV's Jane Austen Season that showed the adaptations really good, like if they were God or something and they turned up crappy. LOL
i agree with you so much! my question is why do they always cast unattractive female leads. the male leads are way better looking and when i watch a romance i want both leads to be good looking! an example of this point is "persuasion"(both versions), the anne character was soo homely. if i'm watching a romance on screen i want to see good looking people to complete the fantasy . p&p(95,2005 version), emma( with gwyneth) are exellent casting!
I know! I think it has to do with the pple who made those versions you liked. Like from Focus Features (with Universal Studios), Miramax, which specialize in movies. Films are very different from TV movies. Films tend to have bigger budgets, much more time for production (meaning that they can afford better actors and have more time to shoot, to get their shots just right) than TV movies, since they have to meet specific demands and tend to be more rushed, and not as well made as others.
Do you know this are all thanks to the 2005 P&P? Its such a coincidence that all those new versions and old of Jane Austen started being publicized and made after the 05? I mean, look at the connections! Northanger Abbey has Carey Mulligan who played Kitty in P&P. Persuasion had Rupert Penry-Jones that came out in MI-5 (Spooks) like Matthew Macfadyen (Mr. Darcy). Mansfield Park, well, they just threw that in there. Ask anyone that had watched those how bad they were.
she looked totally different in that movie. i'm surprised i didn't recognize her since just about that time i had just discovered pride and prejudice and was totally obsessed with it!!!
Its all right if you want to watch those versions, but the books are better. I'll recommend the 2005 Pride & Prejudice. 1995 Emma, Persuasion, and Sense and Sensibility. The 2000 Mansfield Park, and we desperatly need a new Northanger Abbey.
I guess you mean 1999 Mansfield Park, oh I hate that one! I have only seen Pride and Prejudice (looove it) and Persuasion (not good) out of these. I am dying to see 2007 Manfield Park!

The BBC Pride & Prejudice is good if you don't have a life since its so long! and the Emma, well, how can you compare Gwyneth Paltron to that unknown girl? Thank God, I have cable and don't have to suffer through that.
I didn't know it was Kate Beckinsale (I like her in Van Helsing & Pear Harbor but just doesn't cut it as Emma), By all means Gwyneth Paltrow is way more famous than her. I mean, she has done "Shakespeare in Love", gotten an Academy Award and has had a Estee Lauder perfume.
All three new productions sucked. Northanger Abbey was soft porn with all her (Catherine's) fake orgasms during her 'imaginations.' Persuasion was so-so, but a little boring, I'll take the '95 instead. Mansfield Park defenitly sucked. The 2000 version is better, even though the storyline is slightly changed. Sense and Sensibility? Who can win Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, and most importantly...KATE WISLET! The girl that played Rose on The Titanic.
Awesome!

i loved when this was on! at the time i'd only seen P&P and the old version of S&S so I liked them all, not having another version to compare them to.
P&P will always be the best but I loved the new version of S&S and Emma

Yes, that promo has received significant attention. Unfortunately, we do not have the rights to place that particular video on YouTube.
However, keep an eye out for it on your local PBS station.

As for Sense and Sensibility, the girl wears in one instant, the same gown as Keira Knigtley (Lizzie Bennet) in Pride and Prejudice 2005.
