  • beautiful

  • it is a masterpiece--and works perfectly in English he was some one said" the last great poet and composer"

  • aaaah where have those times gone????? where opposite sexes used to be so polite!

  • I love this Song!!! I play it on harp and I alway had problems with the melody but just after I heared the lyric I just pay it nearly perfekt :D

  • Beautiful music and beautiful translation. I love (and play) Renbourn's music, but I would suggest this version is a little too fast for a love song.

  • Very nice in english too

  • Very upbeat compared to the French version....beautiful nonetheless

  • sounds like a combination of arabian and indian music xD who agrees with me? :)

  • @elseekor hi sis

  • In french or in english, thats sich beautiful !

  • And words shall still to be In such captivity For your lack of pity May always continue. (CHORUS) And as this illness never never Can be taken from my heart Except by you, my sweet cruel jewel Who loves to see me smart. And here on my bended knee Captor, now you see Come death and set me free I've suffered so for you.
  • My sweet and fair lady Never believe of me That I have bent my knee To anyone but you. For with no thought of cheating, sweet thing I have so humbly binded Though it's ready for your will and still With no evil thought in mind, Alas, out of charity Graften some relief to me For no joy can there be With no mercy from you. You hold my heart so tightly, knightly So close on your command Binded so fast with chains of agony But it wishes for more harm.

  • Bring back Medieval society; and no im not naive, im a scholar type.

  • both 2 versions are good.

  • I liked that. Now going to hear the French version :)

  • Definitely my favorite version of this song. I know the song is supposed to be sad, but the slower versions seem just too depressing to me. Thanks for uploading!

  • interesting interpretation. Prefer the french one.

  • Trés joulie !

  • Who is the painter in the firts minutes? Who know?

  • Look at the notes.

This song is realy so fast.

The most version in midieval french are mostly half as fast as the original one.

(Maybe midieval french is to difficult for modern tongues to sing this song faster)

  • No affence, but why is it all of the sudden wired and ugly. nologer the melodie that i use to love

  • Far too fast and completely expressionless. Somebody else might be able to make it work in English, but Renbourn couldn't.

  • French, english, germans, irish, scottish are brothers because we are germans and celtics peoples.

  • @olbodala French is a Latin language.

  • @lillybellebutterfly1But French people are germano-keltics(gauls,franks,arverns,burgunds,brittons,aquitains,parisii,alsacian,etc).

  • @lillybellebutterfly1 And French language is in reality,partly latin:50% germano-keltic(gaul,frank,ostic),and 50% latin.Sorry....

  • @olbodala thanks for information. It's a good thing to talk to someone who reads, especially history.

  • @olbodala no offence intended, really.

  • Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot.

He was not afraid to die, O brave Sir Robin!

He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways,

Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin!

  • Its way to fast! The original french song is better in my opinion. But this is good too.

  • It is purely a nonsense to perform this song other than in french because the value of a poem is due widely to the sound and syntax of this language.

The tempo is too fast for a romantic ballad from a man to his beloved lady.

Originally, it is too a monophonic song without any accompaniment.

To conclude it isn't a valid acceptable version but for english ones.

  • Thankyou for posting. I've never heard an english version before.

  • Very nice music and pictures. ***** J.C.

  • Great great great!

  • Nice version of the song, I like it.

  • is there a tabla in the background?

  • Too fast, much too fast!this is a love and lamentation song not a dance;better hear the original old french version on ZekiSWE video(medieval virelai etc)

  • said everything that was in my mind

  • Here's a problem with the non "real" medieval images. People -always- covered their hair while in public cause it was very private.

  • medieval age is such a dirty age...regarding all domains...

    the music is beautiful although

  • Bien mieux en vieux français.

  • com todo respeito ao idioma ingles, mas ficou horrivel..................rs

  • English lyrics and old French original lyrics can be found on the video: "Medieval virelai music etc" from ZekiSWE in the second part of the video

  • jolly version but much much too fast ; this is a lamentation romance,a platonic declaration of "chevaleresque" love not a male chauvinist enjoyment

    Merci

    5*

  • where can I find the lyrics??

I fell in love with this song and the voice is so charmin *-*

    pleas reply!!!

  • I love this song! so romantic.

  • John and his friends are great musicians I admire a lot.

However they are really too fast on this romantic piece + they should sing it in French : they ARE able to sing in French, they did it beautifully on "Belle qui tiens ma vie".

  • is that tabla i hear ?

  • very nice

    five star

  • En FRANÇAIS SVP et moins vite !

  • Too Quickly ... It is more romantic in french .

  • @mouna28

Ick. French is hideous. I'm glad there's a version that isn't French.

  • @emergencyCALL911 If French is hideous then 50% of your vocabulary is hideous as well.

Lets analyze your sentence, hideous is a french word, version is a french word.

  • @SloveintzWend Good point ^^

  • @SloveintzWend i knew slovenians to be kind and funny guys. but they are also definetly smart :)

  • @SloveintzWend Get over it. all words come from somewhere or another. having french words in your language doesn't stop French sounding absolutley disgusting whenever it's spoken.

  • @Vault101Reject Get over it Frenchie, everybody knows pure Anglo-Saxon sounded truly hideous, it's good that it's spiced with the french words.

    Do you call this beautiful?

    watch?v=Ooj25_j3k1E&feature=channel

  • @Vault101Reject

Surprising comment, I first thought you were American, but no, you're from Great Britain. Come on, cool down, let these words for the uneducated ones : our countries have been cousins for centuries. We encountered problems like all good neighbours do. But, remember : at the time of Guillaume de Machaut, French was still the official language at the court of the king of Engand... "Dieu et mon droit" "honni soit qui mal y pense"... etc. and music is beautiful common language.

  • No Empire lives for ever, friend.

Romans, Sassanids, Arabs, Turks, Japanese, and the English, had their empires, which all collapsed. But England is a fine grand country, I don't know why you frown upon the condition of your lands..

  • what do u mean mate?

  • It warms mine

  • When I listening this song i feel like i am in Heaven. All best for ensamble. BRAVO!

  • Very God, man!

    Muito bom, cara!

    uasuhas^^

  • Ein wunderschönes Lied, das einen wieder zurück in das Mittelalter versetzt. :)

A very nice song which moves you back to the Middleages. :)

  • Meraviglioso:un balsamo per le orecchie...

  • Does anyone have the lyrics for this song?

  • This is a great video of the days of chivalry!

  • amazing...no words..

  • francouzština je lepší/ french is better

  • hay, cool!

  • ehm..Okej medeltida musik så passar ju bra när man gör läxan

  • Yes, give the composer his props in your title or description! This version is really great! I love it! Machaut. Nice slides.
