I think one can honestly state that Phil Donahue is the "Father" of talk shows in terms of what we know and see today and his IMPACT and Oprah is the "Mother" again if you look at IMPACT on a Global scale. Both shows directly influenced the genre. You don't have to like Oprah ( I don't like her quite as much as I used to) but you can't deny that she is Iconic.
