Not bad, but can't be compared with Billy Swan's original. Billy sings his guts out and make it so believable. This version is just a song among others.
Every body has his own talent. And regardless of their interpretation my respects for all the ones who use their own compositions to advance their selves Artmart.
Another good one. I tell you put all Ringo's best 20 tracks together and the CD would match any Best OF's but sadly the UK doesn't buy his stuff to get it into the top of the charts.
@PRITTYBOYFLOYD64 i loved this song so much by billy swan that i wore it out and then i didn't even hear this one ... now i'm wearing it out too. i think i listened to billy swan's awesome version since i was born until now that i needed this one too. :)
The album wasn't released because Ringo halted it, saying in court that he was heavly into drinking and the takes recorded were not up to standard and he wished to re-record them. Chip Morman wanted to issue the recordings when Ringo's All-Starr tour was under way. Ringo sued, and the album didn't get released.
I am glad he did this song, from the first time I heard the original by Billy Swann I thought it sounded like Ringo! I was right he could have and should have released this song.
For me..."Ringo" is tops for me, then "Time Takes Time"-very close second, followed by "Vertical Man", "Liverpool 8", "Choose Love", & "Ringo Rama"- all still great albums...then "Goodnight Vienna" & "Beaucoups Of Blues"- good..."Rotogravure" & "Stop & Smell The Roses"- OK, "Old Wave" better than "Ringo the IV", "Bad Boy" & "Sentimental Journey"- the trio of worst works.
Yeah i like "Liverpool 8" quite abit but i cant judge it fairly against the others as it's still fairly new and the novelty of "a new Ringo album" has'nt really worn off yet
Would ya believe I turned my younger friends onto songs like "Monkey See- Monkey Do" and "Where did our love go"? and even now they sing it to me over the phone. Crazy world.
You're a huge Ringo fan obviously, but do u really think that BAD BOY & RINGO THE 4TH are that awful? There r some catchy tunes on each. RIngo should release his 1986 album that he recorded in Nashville.
I'm certainly a fan. I think that he's been pretty underrated/overlooked/misunderstood...at least in regards to his later career renaissance . I do agree that there are certainly some good tracks on any of those lesser albums, but probably no outright great ones, and lots of less than good tracks. Compared to his best works that sound pretty underwhelming, and occasionally embarrassing.
As far as the '86 sessions (was it Nashville or Memphis?), I know he feels terrible about them, and since it was a period of substance abuse that brings back bad memories, and moreso because he sued to keep them off the market, sighting subpar & substance abuse impaired performances, I don't think he would be able to release them. Bootlegs are the best bet. While the sessions were a good concept (maybe he could try it now!), I think the results were just OK, and unfinished. Blessings!
Sorry but A bit, i like "Cryin", "a dose of rock 'n' roll" and "I'll still love you" which i think is when George was at one of his musical highs, but i find the rest pretty un-moving. not as good as "Ringo" or "Stop...." which is one of my personal faves along with "Vertical Man" Ringo-rama" Just my opinion really but hey !!.
I think you may be right looking at the Rotogravure tracks. Undiagnosed sentimentality crept in unawares since I grew up with those late 70's Ringo albums. "Stop.." is Ringo's finest for mua.
Although, Rotogravure was the first Ringo starr L.P i brought at a car boot for 50p, i tend not to mention it too much anyway because i can't prenounce it. i still need to hear Old Wave and Time Takes Time before i can really criticise him on quality of albums, a have heard 2 tracks from "time..." Dont Go Where the road dont go and after all these years and they both seem rather good. But i defitantily agree "stop.." is one of his best
OLD WAVE is a cool album due to Joe Walsh's production and guitar work. TIME TAKES TIME IS considered his best work from the 90's and up from some peeps, and its true, its very good and includes brother Brian Wilson again.
Looks like i'll have to try and find them then, try being the main word as i presume they are both long deleted, so i'll be on the internet googeling them soon,i love hearing new stuff from Ringo and "the boys" . thanks
no, i beleve it was written by Billy Swan. it was recorded in 1987 for an album to follow up old wave. i dont know if the album was ever finished but i do know that after Ringo came out of rehab he took chps morman to court to stop the album from being released as he was "drunk and not up to form" and said the album would be a flop. to which morman replied "no one would notice a flop from someone who has'nt had a hit in 14 years"

Good version. The point is that Elvis sings this better than Billy Swan and him.

@sharonfromtanana agreed. I've heard this song my whole life. Billy Swann's was a classic but Ringo definitely did this justice.

Not bad Ringo didn't get enough recognition. He had some good songs in the 70's.

Personally, i don't think Paul has ever gotten over Linda, she was his soulmate, you can still feel the void left by her on his records.

Also, Ringo seems to be aging much better than Sir Paul.

The anti-pot smoking crowd would like to say that Paul's smoking causes one to age faster. Uhuh. I'm sure stress plays a factor.
Landrew120880 3 years ago
I always thought Billy Swan and Ringo had similar voices.

This woulda been a wierd album. I still cannot see why Ringo blocked it's release.

And let's face it, it couldent be worse than "Ringo's Rotogravure"
