  • People like this are why science will always fight religion. Bitter fools who just try to spark arguments, in the name of "science". They wouldn't do this if they weren't truly looking for furthering humanity.

  • Someone should make that gesture at 4:22 into a .gif and caption it with "look at all the fucks I give" I know Professor Dawkins wouldn't say that but it would be funny wouldn't it?

  • Reality rules our lives, not emotion.

  • @grayziehobbes Wrong. Emotion is reality.

  • @theAthenianHoplite No it is not.

  • He's brilliant, compelling, and he just referred to Monty Python.

    I think I love him.

  • @that1weirdkid27

Monty Python is comedy for intelligent people.

  • @ocarina2boy I shall take that as a compliment.

  • @that1weirdkid27

I'm glad, as it was intended as such! :D

  • I don't have a problem with backward facing caps, but for some odd reason if a person's hat isn't completely facing forward or completely facing back, I get really pissed off because it looks cocky. Sideways facing caps just look stupid.

  • aaaaah Chapter 2 :D

  • Dawkins is a bad ass! i love how he just shuts shit down.

  • im amused - he acts as though debating this topic is forbidden - yet debates between creationists and Darwinian evolutionists are common...please explain?

  • @roxybeachbabe79 They are forbidden. When i talk to creationists myself they act as if I were evil.

  • I love how he is so socially awkward when it comes to jokes, shows that somewhere deep down we all share a awkward side. And the fact that he is of such a old ripe age you would think he would have developed a better way of telling jokes, rather than grinning and projecting a relatively shy image when it comes to humour (Esp with his British humour founded on word play)

  • @blogheads He is bitish we are socially awkward but self effacing with it, its how we temper the awkwardness

  • As much as I love Dawkins, I wish he'd stop explaining his own jokes!

  • Galadriel also reffered as

The Lady of Lórien, The Lady of the Galadhrim, Lady of Light or The Lady of the Wood.

  • i want his A for atheisc pin on is suit

  • "We should be offended when" parents deny their child modern medical care based on their faith.

  • Religion just got OWNED

  • Anyone know what he's mouthing at 4:19 ?

  • 4:22 may be the most awesome thing I have witnessed in my entire life!

  • If there is a hell, I hope I go there so I can hang out with Richard Dawkins. He is cool!

  • what does he mouth at 4:20?

  • There is no god, you religous freaks, please get over it.

  • ehm.... NO!

Stop labeling scientific ideas with your dumb religious bullshit!

  • Faith, n. Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel

  • So what ?

  • Do you believe in the god as he is portrayed in the major religious texts of our time? Or is your statement a proclamation that you believe there is an intelligent designer. If you mean the former than I must ask how your scientific prowess can be dominated by stories and beliefs that have as much evidence of being real as childrens' fairy tales. Please respond. I'm curious as I'm a physicist and an engineer like you.

  • "A lot of the religious texts have been corrupted by people and their interests, yet the only one in my opinion which hasnt changed is the koran."

    Oh, I am so surprised...

  • Then you can't be a very good one

  • Who says you cant believe in science and god? Science verifies the signs of god. Im a better physicist than you, thats for sure.

  • What the hell are you talking about? How can science possibly verify the signs (whatever they are) of an imaginary superbeing??!!! If anything it proves the improbability of said superbeings' existence. By the way, you know nothing about me or have any idea what I do for a living.

  • What is the point? Don't you think it a much more reasonable assumption that the universe and everything in it gets on just fine without any supernatural interference? Do you seriously believe in intelligent design and not the obvious truth of evolution? I think that if you are suggesting the former then it is you who is spouting crackpot nonsense. Which god do you believe in? Thor, Zeus, Allah, Ra etc. etc...........?

  • People DO believe in signs of god. That's the entire problem. I'm really disappointed to see you, as a man of science, believing this irrational nonsense. Which god do you believe in? Please just answer me that.

  • There is an assertion of God, but not a theory, it explains nothing.

  • Why do creationists continuously look at things backwards. Life exists BECAUSE of these conditions. These conditions are not adjusted or made for our benefit. Instead, we have adjusted to them and have to continue adjusting to them. This continual adaption is all that ensures our existence. The "signs" you recognise are recognition of existence, not God.

  • The alternative universes you propose would not not allow you to make such remarks. This universe IS the universe, and no designer is required. You have yet to propose the orgiin of your designer.

  • It's the forming of the hypothesis that's the problem. Karl Popper's 'falsibility'

The Logical Positivists would say that any statement that cannot be tested, even in principle, is not a statement at all, as it's truth or falsehood would have no detectable consiquences. It would be meaningless.

  • and you have yet to prove the origin of all physical nature...the origin of matter and energy still cannot be proven by natural selection, or any science for that matter. The argument isn't that simple....

  • @3shiftgtr

There is nothing false about what you have just said; I am intrigued, however, to know what on earth you mean by it.

  • @hotjohn321 What I mean is that, like religious dogma peddlers, Dawkins peddles a pile of hooey to those who are offended by religion and lack a "faith decision". He talks about evolution as a RESPONSE, rather than a feat of natural selection. There are many atheist and even agnostic thinkers delivering much more solid logic. This guy's thought process is like swiss cheese and he knows it. But that is how he sells his books. That's what I mean.

  • EXCELLENT.

PROFESSOR RICHARD DAWKINS IS THE WISE MAN OF THE 21st CENTURY.

HE IS AN INSPIRATION FOR ALL OF US.

  • 100% agreed

  • If only I would have been willing to listen to this sort of thing years ago. It took me way too long to ditch Christianity on my own.

  • double act ey?, i s'pose an old professor of biology knows how to keep it going that long

  • Best, most meaningful, truthful and conscienceness raising video ever posted on Youtube!

  • Enlightening and uplifting.

  • The name Professor Richard Dawkins will still be widely known for centuries to come. I consider myself truly fortunate to have my lifetime coincide with his.

  • Please consider that Richard Dawkins thinks you should resist the temptation of deifying entities that came about by evolution. Presumably that includes himself. :-P

  • lol bravo!

  • Very well said my friend!!!

  • @cottonwhiskersuk well said

  • @cottonwhiskersuk who is this dude? please just tell me he seems smart enough.

  • Professor RICHARD DAWKINS is an inspiration fo of all of us.

    Excellent .

  • With the exception of the allusion to *public* education, this was excellent.

  • why? us public education sucks. A monopolized unioninized public school system doesn't have the ability to offer children a proper education. It gets rid of what makes us better ourselves, competition. W/out competition there is only stagnation. The public school system is a great example of why monopolies screw us.

  • Oops, didn't think the first post got through.

  • Jmartins oh okay my bad misread your previous entry.

  • "We should be offended when children are denied a proper education... we should be offended when stem cell research is interrupted." Says it all right there - atheists absolutely MUST assert themselves on a global scale before we stunt ourselves anymore

  • @thecros14 Funny enough arent there a few religions that agree with Science 100% but still keepign the religion true?

  • Dawkins and Adams. Great men. Great insights upon the human condition. Great philosophers, even though philosophy is/was not their profession.

  • I agree. Very Monty Python.

  • I'm against respecting a person's views simply because they find it sacred. But I hold extreme views on these matters.

However I am still unable to justify how anybody can get away with an immutable belief simply because it's religious. It's not a justified authority; I have yet to hear an agreeable argument that explains how a particular religious belief trumps all personal/political beliefs.

The best one can get from me is that it is a personal belief, and consequently I am not bound to it.

  • Wonderful points and a great delivery!

I especially loved the "We should be offended when..."

Superb instances of exactly why religion should be reduced to a hobby.
