This is a presentation designed to concisely illustrate a general overview of ving tsun. Strike from any hand position, yiu ma/biu ma coordinated with techniques, stepping kicking. All of these are in the 3 forms and dummy. None of this nonsense about whether you think Ip Man would like/dislike this form. Ip Man trained hard and spoke softly. If you practice mo duk and your skill is good then that is your greatest contribution to ving tsun.
Too many people are using Ip Man's reputation as their credit. Too many people have the mentality that Ip Man's skill is endgame. There is an old saying in Wing Chun, "Do not talk about seniors and juniors in Wing Chun, the one who obtains skill first is senior". If you are not striving to become better than your sifu and to improve your art, you are failing your art and your master. Ip Man would be turning over in his grave if he saw Wing Chun politics today.
I find this form very confusing. The 3 forms are separated with a reason. One form alone holds the information that needs a day to teach. If you combine them you need to skip a lot of information. The forms also teaches you Ving Tsun step by step, so you're not gonna rush the system. This form resembles teaching a baby to stand up and let him run a thousand miles.
@ownage4000 I agree...The whole point of SLT is to develope body structure. Chum kui to develope moving body structure and to recover a lost, but undamaged, structure. Biu Tze is for recovering a lost structure in cases of emergency (lost centerline control). Mix the forms together and it becomes hard to know what you're learning.
Haters: The synthesis form (4th form) was created by GM Ip Man's son, GM Ip Ching, when the idea of adding competitive martial arts forms to the Olympics was being explored a long time ago. They needed a WC form that distilled the main ideas from all of the others into one single entertaining/interesting form so it could be demonstrated for a crowd at the Olympics.
We learn the 4th form at our Ip Ching lineage school, but we understand where it came from and why it was made.
WTH was that? It started Si Lum Tao, turned into Chum Kil and then went nuts. Corners were cut from the Si Lum Tao like the end of the form. This is...bad
I am getting tired of sharleton wing chun styles STEALING the name Ip Man to promote their own misguided self interests.
This is NOT Ip Man wing chun. There is NO empty hand 4th form. This so called form is simply an amalgamation of many of the techniques from Ip Man's empty hand, knife, and dummy forms.
This 'form' does NOT hold true to the principals behind learning each form, where they each have principals to try and understand.
Glueing together moves does not create a new form!!
hhhhmmmmm....but if it contains elements of each of the other forms, why can't those movements also contain the ideas that are in the movements? Aren't the forms also ideas of movement to open up the mind to application based on certain mechanics?
I'm not arguing that this form is Ip Man's or but I think your critique of it is not solid...what does this form lack from all the others? It has the hand techniques and is even a bit more explicit in application...
I am also tired of fakes exploiting Ip's name, but there's nothin wrong with this.
This IS Ip Man WC it's just a new combo of movements. The people who came up with it never said Ip taught them this, but it IS Ip Man WC. Yes, it IS just an amalgamation. That's what it's supposed to be - a way to show the "flavor" of WC during demos.
This form DOES hold true to WC principles.
Its just a fun demo-form. Not a big deal.
Want to rail against fake WC, go after William Cheung.
@TwoGunGunnar I have to agree with you, there is nothing wrong with this form . The Practioners are utlizing the movements found in the first three forms. In my opinion (from what I see) GM IP Ching Created this form so as to give the WC Practioner a different view on how to utlize the forms in a combat mode and stay fluid and true to form , as my Sifu would say.

No stance. loose figner on every Tan sau (ouch) and fuk saus are not parallel to the ground (need to be in order to create a line of attack) Need to brush up boys... Hope those werent the teachers..
WUSHU is a pinko commie abomination aimed at stripping the martial arts community of it's pride, strength, and effectiveness. it should not be tolerated, either in its practice, or its promotion. nor should it EVER be said to be a MARTIAL art, as it is simply ineffectual ballet, and a slap in the face of ALL our Traditional Ancestors. they would be appalled to see their martial decendents swallowing the lies of Chair Bitch Mao. BAN WUSHU!
What form is this one called? It looked like siu nim tao, then at 4:03 changed to chum kiu, and at 4:49 changed to biu jee. If they call it competitive form, I hope they don't assume it's a replacement of all the forms.
i believe yip man would be very disappointed the way wing chun is turning into.. a circus.
i do classical yip man wing chun as well as gulao. i would not change a single move nor technique. not invent a new form that is not really new. a mish-mash from the old ones.
wing chun is a lot deeper than just forms. research the true wing chun then its worth it.. plus wing chun flows..
I agree... corrupt men such as Leung Ting came along and change a few things and stole all the rights to Yip Man's Fame... Yip Man never even Claimed to be a MASTER. He would be disgusted that Wing Chun is being Taught by self proclaimed Sifus around the world.. I am proud to belong to a very close to the top Leung Sheung / Paul Lam Lineage and is as close to Yip Man's Style as you can get. Hard and fast No BS get the hell outta my way Wing Chun NOT Wing Tsun or Ving Ding
Thanks for your insights into your gay pussy style of Wing Chun. I'm sure your style is real "hard", and you must be a high ranking member of the Dick Sucking Butt Plugging School of Wing Chun. hehe,.
Look, I'm sure you think you're real tough hiding behind your computer, talking bullshit about Leung Ting and showing disrespect to a true master, but if you talk like that in real life someone who actually knows gongfu is going to knock the shit out of you. Have a good day!
@nbz1973 first, leung ting is not corrupt. Second, talents were made to be shared and used for the greater good of everyone, not kept to one's own self and third, wing chun was invented by men and can be modified by men. There was never a law either from God or man criminalizing the alteration or modification of an art.
@phoenixeyefist Martial arts are dead. It's up to you to dig them up and make them your own. Keep what works for you and disregard anything that doesn't
The 4th form was created by Ip Ching, Ip Man's son, in respect for his father's wishes to create a form that fluently combines and demonstrates the 3 hand forms and core of ving tsun.
It took Ip Ching most of his life to develop this.
Wing chung teacher told me only advanced students can use the wooden dummy,so i bought one instead&taught myself(NO FORMS)JUST SPEED,BALANCE,TIMING..NOW IM JUST AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER WHEN WE SPARR THEY GET A BEATING...
If you are beating a teacher of wing chun without first and second form, you shouldnt be learning from that teacher cause they SUCK.. Wooden Dummy is 1 of the 3 rewards at the en o the system for having put in the HARD WORK (the meaning o kung fu)
prchdaword is right on the money. that someone happens to be grandmaster Ip Ching its not adding something new its a collection of skill purely for demonstration
Wow, i have not seen this form b4. It's very interesting 2 c the diversity in various lineages. If u r interested in other uncommon wc forms, check out Kicking form or 16 kicking method. Don't know much about it, but it's worth a look. Thanks 4 posting.
This form seems to be a good representation of Wing Chun Kuen. If the 3 hand forms were to 'evolve' into 1 this would be in keeping with the principle of keeping the style simple. Here we can see the core principles of center line, positioning good development and use of energy and turning stance (which is one of Ip Ching's major teaching points) The form is visually stunning and not too long. As a competition form I hope it will help raise the standard and profile of Wing Chun Kuen. Well Done
Its a nice form although it does not really make sense to mix SLT, CK, BJ together as 1 form. But it is also not a wrong thing its a nice form. Only what is the philosophy behind it that is what I am wondering.
All forms have each other in it, different characteristics of the same manners of posture, positioning and path of technique. There is no need for a 4th form. This is not doing a good job for Wing Chun. We should have less forms, than adding another one. It shows there is not a full understanding of Wing Chun presented here.
Great job Edmund, This is a very good form which combines key elements of all of the forms including the knife footwork. This form will be very helpful to all.
Grandmaster Ip Man said Wing Chun has only 3 forms If someone can make it into one form and combined all the important elements in it will be even better This form was designed by Grandmaster Ip Ching as requested by the China Wu Shu Association representing Ving Tsun Atheletic Association Ip Man Wing Chun Kung Fu Combined all the important elements of 3 forms Sil Lin Tau Chum Kiu Bil Gee Woodenen dummy techniques and retreting foot work from the knife form
