    The Veyron is one of the easiest cars to drive, yes its fast as hell but it's also as stable as a house. I haven't had the chance to drive it nor have been in it with the spoiler down at high speed. However the way its set up it's just sick, going 300 kph without even noticing the speed.

  • @PD666 almost correct mate,the spoiler rises up when doing over 70mph. if you noticed in the vid its horizontaly raised,not verticaly in the breaking position

    True, but it also shows that the car wasn't in the 'super' mode. Since when you enable that mode, with the second key in the doorhole thingy, the spoiler gets retracted completely so as to minimize drag.

    As I said before, this Bugatti was privately owned, and it's owner only allowed TopGear using it if they'd promise not to take it out of normal mode.

  • no no no seriously loud. Admittedly it was a track- Mclaren F1, really stripped out that was featured on the TV show fifth gear but they were wearing headsets so that they could talk to each other.

  • Technically, it's gearbox is of DSG technology (not like a conventional automatic gearbox). It can be partially manual (like a Ferrari with paddle shifters) wheres the 2 operating clutches (in the DSG's case) are operated automatically but the driver may freely go through the gears, and then it has a full automatic mode.

    Also the DSG shifts a lot faster than a traditional manual gearbox.

  • The Veyron would've had a much better takeoff if dude would have set the special key in the switch located on the drivers side that wold have unlocked all of the 1001hp. One way I could tell that this step was overlooked was the fact that the rear spoiler was still up just before takeoff. The spoiler would have stayed completely down throughout the entire race. Plus, the Veyron would also have set lower to the ground.

  • The problem with using that key is that when the car is in that mode, if the steering wheel is turned a certain distance from center, I think it's only a few degrees, the car's computers automatically take it out of that mode, so the car wouldn't have stayed there the whole time. Also, all 1001hp are unlocked all of the time, the special key just changes the speed limiter and lowers the car

  • @F1SHM0NG3R Both cars are simply awesome, but I've watched enough top gear episodes to understand their quest to create shock and suspense. (just one reason why they're the best). I'm pretty sure Hammond botched the start to make it interesting! When you look at the numbers, the Mclaren is not even close and the difference gets worse as they continue to accelerate

    the veyron doesnt, on the top gear test track it wasnt the fastest, and now the ultimate aero ssc is faster in a straight line

  • Hammond had turned off the launch control on the Veyron to slow it down from the start to make the race seem more competitive. With the launch control enabled the Veyron is just quicker over the quarter mile.

  • No, the launch control was on, however traction control was also on, so there was no burnout, which in fact boosted the veyron's performance.

    The f1 is nearly half the weight of the 2+ ton veyron, thats why it pulled away so fast for the first 1/2 mile or so

    3:46 seems to disagree with that assessment. The pulsating lights in the back of the veyron is the launch control.

    The pulsating lights have to do with the fact that the back lights are LED's.

    Every single car that has LED's has 'flashing' lights like this when filmed, due to the fact that they're not sync'd with the framerate of the videocameras.

    Neighbour has a F10 550i, and it's front and back lights (he's got the LED option on it) are constantly pulsating like this on camera. You cant see it with your own eyes though.

    Nothing to do with launch control.

  • Tore the F1 apart lol...not around a track and at the end of the day a car was doing 276mph in a straight line in 1935...thats 74 years ago!!! (look at the record of land speed records) The Veyron is of course an amazing car but it can't really beat the McClaren point to point on twisting real roads.

    I know the Stig is a wicked good driver, but it seems like the Veyron should be quicker off the line. With all that torque, 4WD and an automatic gearbox, it shouldn't be an issue.

    My guess (take it or leave it), is that Hammond may have eased it off the line to make the race seem more epic, which is how Top Gear usually does things.

    Besides, look at all the discussion it's stimulated.

  • the Veyron is a bad-ass car, but i would still take the McLaren over it. there's something to be said about a true purpose driven car like the McLaren. No fancy gadgets or electronics, just pure raw power and precise handling without traction control, etc. a true driver's car.

  • Crappy driving, crappy launch - the Bugatti should have pulled a (big) holeshot on the McLaren, even with its greater curb weight, mainly because of the all wheel drive - and it should have used its launch control. The driver (term used loosely) of the Bugatti should also shut up throughout the race and concentrate on driving, in lieu of blabbing nonstop start to finish. With a good driver, the Bugatti would win by a huge margin.

The cinque effectively has a very exposed engine, I don't any turbos on that, and I looked on the intake side, no supercharger. I look for nitrous lines, and solenoids. Nope not there. No factory lamborghini car to my knowlege was anything but n/a. And after the f40 all the top Ferraris used high rev n/a v12s. Care to prove me wrong?

  • Actually Mclaren usually do fit satnav and a special audio system specifically for the F1 built by Kenwood. The F1 also has a lot more luggage space.Mclaren will also fit anytrhing you want to the F1.

  • Not bad shakes for the Mclaren! No, not as fast on the top end as the Bugatti. But still undoubtedly nimble with brutally fast acceleration. I think on the regular Top Gear track it might corner better than the Veyron.

    On a day-to-day basis though, I think I'd enjoy the Bugatti more though, with all it's normal amenities (AC, kick ass stereo, quiet ride), then the bare bones "day track" Mclaren.

    Of course, if you're rich enough to afford one, then you can probably afford both. So... ^_^
