  • good job!

  • @newsboyskid Thank u sir.. :-)

  • holly crap! thats such a cute mellophone:D!!

  • @frenchhornisthebest My mellophone thanks you.. :-)

  • hmm, never seen that kind. :p i'm an eighth grade f horn player.

  • @thaliathefool They had these from the 1920's to the 1950's(I think....).. It's a Mellophone which was primarily for indoor concert uses and also in Jazz.. I haven't touched it in 3 years so far but keep on practicing and don't let up.. :-) It was 1978 when I was in 8th grade.. School goes by so quickly so enjoy it while you can and make the most of it.. Get the letter jacket, get the class ring and make darn sure you don't miss your highschool prom when that time comes..

  • Okay guys my bad I'm sorry for not knowing much about these instruments. I'll admit when im wrong.

  • UUm that is a french horn. Mellophone is something u can march with. And u cant march with that crap. Only sit down in a band/ensemble room and play or at your own home thanx. I'm in band playing trumpet bout to switch to Mellophone because most of the section are seniors and are leaving.

  • @Maadiah21 No.. It is NOT a French horn.. It IS a mellophone from the 20's and yes it was meant for indoors. There's too much proof on youtube already about what I'm saying. I've done my research and this thing sounds no where as good as a french horn.

  • @Maadiah21 this is a european offset of a mellophone it is an eflat alto mellophone. i dont believe french horns are pistoned valeved and lefty ?

    dumbass

  • that a frenh hore nob

  • @airsoft911full No... It's a 1920's Mellophone and don't be calling people names.

  • You're doing well.

To me, it looks like in your lower octave your ambature is slightly off. The higher you got the better you were doing. When trying to play it think of saying the letter "M" drawn out. You should feel a tightness in the middle of your lips. This will help the whole scale a lot. That, and using a lot with air and air velocity. :)

But you're well on your way. (PS: what note were you starting on?)

  • @CoasterStreak I apreciate that valuble information.. I haven't played it since I came back from England Dec 07 but if I get the urge I got a treasure trove of awesome advice from folks like you and some of the others to fall back on.. Thanks.

  • Keep practicing and you'll have it down great in no time.

  • @BMXer00555 Thanks for the words of encouragement.. ..

  • Good attempt, just keep practicing and you'll get it! :)

I myself am a freshman who's played french horn for almost 4 years now.

  • @lilnekocat Thanks for the encouragement.. :-) I haven't touched the thing in 3 years but should get back at it..

  • I play french horn myself.

  • @bandmaniacboy French horns sound way better then my Mellophone..

  • What's the what? Finish your sentence..

  • keep trying and you get good real fast work on the parts you messed up on but also when you switch your notes try not to blow to hard to keep on the right tempo

  • Thanks.

  • thats called a french horn

  • It's not though.. It's a 1920's Mellophone.. There's a video on YouTube showing someone playing one exactly like this one. Just type in Mellophone and look up "Dream a little dream"..

  • I've already seen video's on here of my very same horn.. It is a 1920's mellophone that was for indoor band concerts.. I did some really hard researching on the internet.. My Dad will swear that it's an Alto Horn.

  • I myself play french horn! Nice attempt! I would love to have a horn like that!

  • Go on ebay and type in mellophone and you might find one..

  • ;-)

  • you got robbed!

  • I hope not.. ;-)

  • That's a pretty interesting instrument you've picked yourself up there!

Also, you're sounding a lot better than your other video with this instrument, getting some pretty high notes there!

  • Thanks,, 1920's Mellophone.. I haven't played that thing in over a year now.. Might try it some more at some point.. Thanks..

  • It is.. Just scan through the videos on youtube under mellophone and you'll see one just like this one.. This is one from the 1920's.. This kind was used for indoor preformances where as the mellophone of today is the "Marching Mellophone".

  • I'd never admit to being able to keep the tunes right. My good round sounds are rare occasions.. I haven't even played this thing in over a year now..

  • No.. It's a 1920's Mellophone and who are you to judge me?

  • DATS A FRENCH HORN!

  • No.. Dats a 1920's Mellophone and deres a video on here wit someone playing one besides me that calls it dat.. ;-)

  • Keep up the good work! I play mellophone in marching band so I know quite a bit if you need help!

  • Thanks..

  • My oh my, does this sound remind me of when I first picked up horn.

I was tempted to quit to one of the instruments with less sensitive overtones, but I stuck to it.

    It is so worth it!

    Keep it up man!

  • Thanks for the encouragement.. ;-)

  • relax the neck it helps, and plese stay away frome pedel tones thay only sond good on trombone and tuba. keep practesing get lesons and it'll come with time.

  • I didn't think I had a neck (grin).. Thanks for the advice..

  • funny (grin)!! your wellcome.

  • hey u can try ur concert b flat scale which is f,g,a,b flat,c,d,e,f. and if u can go on from there practice long tones. and stuff it works wonders ull get way better with the long tones. it will center ur pitches and help u with ur range.

  • Thanks for the info..

  • keep practicing man!

    youll get much better!

  • Thanks..

  • you are pinching for high notes. Just let the air take care of everything. And for notes under and on the staff, you are using what we call, "pucker" embouchure. That's the most inefficient way of getting good sound out of any brass instrument. I'd recommend you use a "tieu" embouchure, by forming a french "TU" and having good air support by expanding the stomach muscles. Have fun!

  • Thanks!

  • yeah Im not a big fan of the old mellophoniums. Im a horn player by trait, but mellophone is what I play in Drum Corps.

  • This is actually the first ever horn I ever tried to play. I haven't played it since I got back to the States last December.. I love how a French horn sounds though.. All the old Star Wars music..

  • i thought that was an french horn ?

  • It's what once was a regular Mellophone. The Mellophones of today are "Marching Mellophones". This was the type of Mellophone that was used at indoor brass band preformances. This particular Mellophone may be from the 1920's.

  • I think u sux, i have played in 7 years, and i make it better.

  • Not having had the 7 years of expience that you have that would then therefore make sence. That and get it right.. I don't sux.. It was my playing you thought that sux..

  • dude shut the heck up just cause you've seven years doesn't give you the right to go around telling others they suck. thats one of the main reasons that new learners get discouraged and stop learning new instruments is because people like you tell them that they suck and then they stop playing and never try again.

  • You rock man.. ;-)

  • Do you delete all comments?

Nice practice anyway. You sound like a great player.

  • I sometimes forget to approve them.. Thanks for the compliment.. I'm just learning to play the thing..

  • im a french horn player (about 3 weeks in) and i absolutely love the instrument. my range is already up to the A above the staff. But man... its a tricky instrument and im sure that standard form mellophone is roughly the same. I watched some of your other videos... youve improved man :D

maybe ill buy tickets one day to see you play in a salvation army band like you watned

  • Thanks for the kind words.. I need to get back into it.. Haven't played it in 4 months.. I love the French horn. I'd like to own one someday.. Never touched lips to one before but I love how it was use in the soundtracks for all 6 Star Wars.. Especially for the one I believe called Leia if I spelled that right.. The French horn is awesome sounding in a large room where the sound bounces around at it's own pace..

  • That's a very good word..

  • Well if it will help improve your faith in God I've got some videos playing the violin as well that you may enjoy equally as well as you did my horn videos.. ;-)

  • Well I was inspired by a Salvation Army Band and this is the only horn in my Family, My Fathers' and so I thought I'd go for it. It's more of a sentimental thing.

  • Thus the third word in the title... Practice..
