Esto va a estar interesante, el B777-300ER es igula de grande q el A-340-600 que Iberia operaba y que tuvo problemas en UIO ( su tamaño vs el largo de la pista!)..Si KLM opera sin problemas quiere decir que este avion es mejor. que los pilotos de KLM tiene mas pericia o son + profesionales...Vamos a ver en Oct 30 que pasa!!

@aviationfreak100 They still use MD-11 in some routes. They are replaceing all the MD-11 with B777-300ER and A330-300. MD-11 are to old and they use much more fuel than those modern aircrafts.

@Physicspilot It has tobe, UIO is at over 9200 ft high, so the air is so thin that in order to achieve a pretty low landing speed (IAS Indicated airspeed) of say 138 or 140 kts, it has to do about 165 kts groundspeed; So landings are fast and take off has to be pretty light. So if you want a good payload, fuel has to be limited. That flight doesn't go non-stop to AMS, it has to make a stop at Panama, Curacao or Caracas, replenish with fuel and then go on....

con LAN desde belgica hasta espana y de espana hasta guyaquil y con, KLM desde belgica hasta schipol y despues hasta panama y de panama hasta guayaquil buen servicio te lo recomiendo los compro los tiket en una compania de viage con un ano de anticipacion y me salen por 500 a 600 mas el seguro que cuesta como 76 en total entre los 700

Quito's airport is in the middle of the City. It can be quite dangerous if the pilot is inexperienced. By the way, I think they are building a new and safer airport outside the city of Quito.

This should be one of the most dangerous airports in the world. It's proximity with the city and short rw, makes it highly dangerous and no error margin. Besides, if you look closely, you'll see the runway is on a soft hill, so it's not straight. This airport should be closed as soon as possible.

i know right! The thing is, Quito has an elevation of about 10thousand feet- and at such altitudes the air is a lot less dense than at sea level...so, this airplane's speed was probably very similar to the approach speed used at other airports...so to get the same lift from the air's density, it needs a lot more ground speed... and that's where the the huge difference is. "low air speed", huge "ground speed".

at 10000 feet, the air pressure (density) is 10 times lower to that of sea level. This means less lift on the wing and lower angle of attack and a higher stall speed. So the approach has to be fast to maintain lift.

Think about it this way: at 10000 feet the speed restriction is lifted, why? because the air density is low so aircarft needs higher speeds to fly, and its alos more econominca as there is less drag, again linked to the adir pressure.
