@handsofblood1 yes they smell when they grow. Not so much at first but when you start to bud the plant (flower) its gonna start picking up with the smell. You can buy strains that don't smell as strong as others.
i like your grow box it looks like it would b good 4 clones if u wanna step it up you can use the ward wrote box that they sell at home depot and a t5 you can flower as soon as u hit 20 inches how ever vie seen people flower with less height

@womenbeater187 so, you want to first calculate your growing space, which is L x W of the floor space, in your case, 6.2 inches by whatever length. The general rule of thumb is about 3000 lumens per square foot, and you probably have about 1 1/2. you could easily get away vegging your plant with two 32w cfl's. super cheap. Make sure to get "daylight" bulbs, as those help veg. I used more lights than necessary, but they grow faster with more light. flowering, you need the soft light bulbs.

@volgarski You got to say how many watts you're using man, I say combined you would need 90w to get going on veg state, if you only got this amout of wattage (6500k is best for veg and 2700k is best for flowering) ou better get the plants close to the lights.
well the pc grow box is a great idea to start your vegging. small area which means i was only running 3 lights = minimal energy usage. gets em nice and leafy green. plus, it gives ideas for how to set up your box! :)
You should switch your air flow around for starts. If thats just for sprouting plants those bulbs are OK. If not they don't have the right light spectrum for starts. High pressure sodium would be the best. You can get grow bulbs that look like a spot light for a garage but they have a bluish lens. You should have your light source adjustable as well
if you look closely theres an old cell phone charger plugged into the outlet which yiou can easliy split and connect ur fans to. Basic electronics this is FAR from complicated.
You should've hacked those CFL's so you could do remote ballasts with them. Basically every CFL bulb has a dedicated ballast built in. I'll look for the link for that and post it when I get the chance. I figure with you being stressed for space it'll help, and those won't be able to stay in there for long.

If being stealth isn't an issue - go bigger. Same principle, just construct a larger box. You don't need a massive grow room but make your work worth it. The yield from a PC grow box isn't going to be much.
It is, however, a good place to get the hang of how the plants respond and what to do.
Looking good, but you may want to get lower pots / containers whenever the plants start getting bigger, and have a look into Low Stress Training / bending / topping. The lights will get in the way whenever the plant grows larger, and if you want it to grow to it's potential, it would be best to move all the lights to the very top of the case. Are those ionizing CFLs?
ay m8.. your leaves are canoeing... dont use filtered water, use tap water and let it sit for a day or 2 and the chlorine will evaporate.. it has nutrients and elements that actually are better for the plant than filtered or distilled water..
Your missing the point of pc grow case. Its supposed to be discreet. theres too much light coming out. You have no fans. And the lights should be the other way. So plants have more room. And most important everybody thats building a case use a server. They are taller and wider computer cases.

Those lights are CFL's (Compact Fluorescent Lights). You can hook them into a power strip by buying a socket adapter. You can find both at your local hardware store.
dude i did it, i can send u some pics of mine it takes alotta work pretty much just take out every screw you see on the motherboard and for any metal just drill out the rivets using a 1/8 in drill bit
i'm sure someone else has already told you this... but swap your fans, hot air rises, exhaust the hot air out the top, and draw in fresh air from the side. also if you could mount those lamps against the back, it would more efficient. the side of the spiral puts out more lumens/light than the top. you want the side of spiral aimed at your plants.

Im going to be using a DWC (Deep water culture) system, im going to use 1 large tupperware box and cut some holes for a pot to rest in, with an air pump running bubbles through the water. Ive seen people do this with wicked results!

With all due respect, do some reading. Unless you have a room with over 40 square feet, such at 8ft x 5ft you do NOT need 2000 watts...the wattage depends on the size of the room you're covering...not the amount of plants...general rule of 50 REAL WATTS(on CFLS they give the equivalent wattage, thats not the number you go by, you want the smaller number) per Square foot...this is wall to wall...not just the space your plants take up
good setup. (im not an expert) but this is sufficient for the vege state.. go sensimilla (cloning) all the way. have a different set up for the flowering (hps) use clone snippings and keep the mother in this box.
you might want to consider a hydroponic adaptation to this set up too!
yu should keep the lights further away from the plants during the first 4 or 5 weeks, this way the plants will climb towards the light, growing taller, and have more chance of living.

Looking good, but you may want to get lower pots / containers whenever the plants start getting bigger, and have a look into Low Stress Training / bending / topping. The lights will get in the way whenever the plant grows larger, and if you want it to grow to it's potential, it would be best to move all the lights to the very top of the case. Are those ionizing CFLs?

ay m8.. your leaves are canoeing... dont use filtered water, use tap water and let it sit for a day or 2 and the chlorine will evaporate.. it has nutrients and elements that actually are better for the plant than filtered or distilled water..

Your missing the point of pc grow case. Its supposed to be discreet. theres too much light coming out. You have no fans. And the lights should be the other way. So plants have more room. And most important everybody thats building a case use a server. They are taller and wider computer cases.

Do the cfl's actually work?I tried the biggest wattage one i could,and after 2 months daily light it never gave bud,but then i never knew how to make it bud,then a friend told me that cfl's are a waiste for anything taller than 8 inches./..

you have to change the hours from 18/6 to 12/12 to bud... and yea cfl work fine in a pc

alot of ppl think you can jsut put a dope plant under a light leave it and it will eventualy bud but this is dead rong lol
you need to change the time of daylight from +16 hours of light to 12 hours or less for the plant to change into its buding state.
if oyu just leave it at 16 + hours of light it was stay in veg state forever and just keep geting bigger

you should switch the fans to have cool air coming in through the front and hot air out the top. #1 heat rises #2 it will create an updraft and act as a breeze over the plants

Those lights are CFL's (Compact Fluorescent Lights). You can hook them into a power strip by buying a socket adapter. You can find both at your local hardware store.

dude i did it, i can send u some pics of mine it takes alotta work pretty much just take out every screw you see on the motherboard and for any metal just drill out the rivets using a 1/8 in drill bit

i'm sure someone else has already told you this... but swap your fans, hot air rises, exhaust the hot air out the top, and draw in fresh air from the side. also if you could mount those lamps against the back, it would more efficient. the side of the spiral puts out more lumens/light than the top. you want the side of spiral aimed at your plants.

you shouldent have to put more $ into your grow just to have it in a closet instead of a small case where size is limited

yes, switch the fans, exhaust at the top, cold intake at the bottom, hot air rises up. im building a similar setup to this, ive got a larger and taller box tho, you can definatley grow a persy in one of these,
Im going to be using a DWC (Deep water culture) system, im going to use 1 large tupperware box and cut some holes for a pot to rest in, with an air pump running bubbles through the water. Ive seen people do this with wicked results!
with a bit of work this can EASILY become stealth,

You should switch your intake and exhaust fans, intake low and exhaust high. Your just blowing the hot air onto plants.

With all due respect, do some reading. Unless you have a room with over 40 square feet, such at 8ft x 5ft you do NOT need 2000 watts...the wattage depends on the size of the room you're covering...not the amount of plants...general rule of 50 REAL WATTS(on CFLS they give the equivalent wattage, thats not the number you go by, you want the smaller number) per Square foot...this is wall to wall...not just the space your plants take up

good setup. (im not an expert) but this is sufficient for the vege state.. go sensimilla (cloning) all the way. have a different set up for the flowering (hps) use clone snippings and keep the mother in this box.
you might want to consider a hydroponic adaptation to this set up too!

yu should keep the lights further away from the plants during the first 4 or 5 weeks, this way the plants will climb towards the light, growing taller, and have more chance of living.

no, thats wrong, keep the, close to absorb the light and keep them short so they can develop more nodes for budding..
also switch your fans so that the top fan out takes air and your side one intakes it... hot air rises up and needs to be extracted away from the box..
good job... perhaps start thinking about using low stress training when they get older to increase yields...
