  • are fluke and flounder the same fish?

  • @mtednby21

A lot of people call fluke "flounder" south of NY. We also have "winter flounder" which are different than fluke.

  • Excellent Video.

  • last year my cousin pulled one up tht was 35 inches it ws the biggest fluke i have ever seen

  • @oplicon thts a 9 10 pounder on what a bucktail

  • @mstran29 nice

  • nice quality instructional video. What is your favorite tide to fish flue on LI sound?

  • @striperlouie

I have no favorite tide. I just try to avoid the wind against the current.

  • @jskinner5278 have u ever used fake whole squid

  • I fish the south shore in Moriches Bay. Have you fished in that area with any luck?

  • @27hilltopper

I used to bucktail them there a long time ago. Great place for fluke.

  • What kind of line are you using?

  • @donkey315

    15# TuffLine XP

  • LOVE THE VIDEO again Awesome Job :) Pablo

  • I love the fact that you kept and included the video of the net breaking. That was priceless!

  • Excellent video. I fish that area of the sound also with good results using the same setup with gulp. I dont use the rapid jigging method but I will this season. I noticed you did not catch a lot of sea robins, do you think its because of your jigging style.

  • @sfisssh

There just weren't a lot of searobins around that day. Unfortunately, searobins like the jigs too.

  • is this the western long island sound>

  • @xxxtremesportsxxx

    We're east of Port Jefferson.

  • i was in new jersey this summer and i caught a nice fluke off the beach sadly it wasn't a keeper

  • I don't, but some people do well with gulp tipped bucktails.

  • do you guys fish for flounder from shore?

  • We don't bleed the fluke, but I agree it's probably a good thing to do. The one time I tried it everything came home a bloody mess. We vacuum seal the fillets, and they're still good a year later. If I had more working space I'd prefer to have two coolers, one for bleeding and one for icing the bled fish.

  • John, you don't bleed your catch?

  • would you need to use steel wire on a bucktail for flounder in case a blue gets it because i have alot of blues please write back i need to know soon im going fishing this week

  • @fishingdaybyday

I would not use wire when fluke (flounder) fishing. Stay down, and hopefully the blues won't bother you. Since doing this video I've actually switched from SPROs to homemade jigs that are nothing more than unpainted leadheads. These simple cheap jigs work just fine. It's the Gulp they're after. When blues are around, we reel like crazy to get our jigs to the top when it's time to run uptide.

  • @jskinner5278 o ok would you still catch flounder if u tip the jig with a piece of mackerial instead of the gulp or get gulp

  • You are using a 1oz bucktail...are you holding bottom?....and how much line are you letting out to hold bottom?

  • @chilza321

We are vertical jigging in 20- to 25-feet of water using 15-pound braided line.

  • wow thats a lot of fish, i have a boat and we fish in the great south bay. We dont catch anything near that! At the most we catch 2 fluke.
